Chapter 394 Cunning
The receptionist blinked and took a while to realize that Quentin was saying she was a nobody.
Quentin ignored the receptionist's sour expression and took the elevator to Gregory's office.
Quentin walked to Gregory's office door in his leather shoes, knocked, and then pushed the door open. "Mr. Walker, you are really busy."
"Compared to Mr. Robinson now, I'm quite relaxed." Gregory smiled, his words laced with sarcasm, making them sting a bit. "What, here to have coffee with me? You don't look like it with that aggressive stance."
"You know why I'm here." Quentin's tone was calm as he tried to control his emotions, resisting the urge to punch Gregory's smiling face.
"Mr. Robinson, you overestimate me." Gregory lazily leaned back in his leather chair, stalling for time. He knew how limited Quentin's time was and that the more he delayed, the more advantageous the situation would be for him.
"I don't have any magic to know what you're thinking." Gregory poured a cup of coffee from a paper cup and handed it to Quentin. Quentin could see through Gregory's intentions. He took a long breath, drank the coffee, and stated his purpose. "Give Lauren back."
Gregory's smile didn't falter, but his gaze at Quentin was calculating. "Mr. Robinson, what do you mean by 'give Lauren back'? Lauren left with me willingly, didn't she? Why do you act like I stole your wife?"
"Isn't that the case?" Quentin raised an eyebrow, deciding to clarify things with Gregory. "Having someone kidnap Lauren, making sure I saw you two having sex, do you think that can bring down Robinson Conglomerate?"
"What are you talking about? Kidnapping?" Gregory said mockingly, "Mr. Robinson, did you come all the way to my company just to slander me? Do you have any evidence?"
"Evidence?" Quentin repeated the key word, "Fine, bring Lauren here, and we'll confront each other."
"You must be joking. Where am I supposed to find Lauren for you?" Gregory feigned innocence.
"This is the last time I'm saying it, give Lauren back." Quentin warned.
"Quentin, I'm really curious, why are you so fixated on Lauren? With your abilities, wouldn't it be better to find someone better than her? I know about you two, so don't use Jessica as an excuse." Gregory decided to change the subject.
"You don't need to know." Quentin said fiercely. He wanted so badly to punch Gregory in the face, but he couldn't because Lauren was in Gregory's hands.
"Mr. Robinson, you are really arrogant." Gregory said, his tone carrying a hint of threat as he touched the rim of his coffee cup.
"Lauren is of no use to you." Quentin suppressed his inner anger.
Gregory smiled and said, "But I like her."
As if that wasn't enough, Gregory added, "Especially after experiencing her body."
"You had sex with her?" Quentin squeezed the words through his teeth, feeling like his mind was a broken record, repeating the sentence over and over again.
"What? You want to take her back? With your current state? Quentin, you can't even protect her, can you? Do you want Lauren to be in danger again? After she was kidnapped, she was almost raped by the kidnappers. I saved her, so she wants to repay me with herself!" Gregory said matter-of-factly.
"Speaking of which, Quentin, I'm really curious, how does it feel for someone who used to take pleasure in taking things from others to be in this position now?"
Before he finished speaking, Quentin's fist landed on Gregory's face, which looked similar to his own.
Gregory rubbed his swollen cheek and laughed.
"Quentin, aren't you always so high and mighty? And now you're hitting people over a woman like Lauren? I wonder what Jessica would think of you!" Gregory once again touched on Quentin's taboo.
"I'll make you understand how painful it is to cross me!" Quentin didn't want to listen anymore, leaving a cold remark before leaving.
Watching Quentin's back, Gregory laughed internally, "Don't worry, there won't be a next time. Lauren and I will be happy!"
Quentin returned to the hospital, and it was already dark.
Quentin rested for a while, exhausted, and had a nightmare. He dreamt that Lauren had eloped with Gregory, and no matter how he called, she wouldn't come back. Quentin was awakened by a ringing sound, feeling that the damn dream was about to become reality.
He couldn't help but feel agitated. He opened his phone and saw a message from Noah, an address.
Lauren was in a factory in the suburbs.
Seeing the message, Quentin decisively replied, "Rescue immediately!"
Just after sending it, Quentin heard a commotion outside.
Kimberly had come to the hospital, shouting and barging in.
"Quentin, have you found Lauren?" Kimberly asked, her tone somewhat hostile. In her eyes, it was Quentin who had lost Lauren.
"Why would I look for her?" Quentin's tone was indifferent, his whole body exuding a cold aura that made Kimberly shiver.
He had calmed down. He didn't need to rescue Lauren; Lauren and Gregory were having an affair, and she didn't need saving at all!
But Kimberly didn't know what had happened. She only remembered how Quentin had promised her that he would take good care of Lauren, and now Lauren was missing!
Thinking of this, Kimberly felt she had the right to be righteous in front of Quentin. She said, "You two are married!"
"Married?" Quentin repeated the word, then sneered, "I'm afraid Ms. Walker never took this marriage seriously."
"What do you mean, Quentin?" Kimberly's eyes widened, "Lauren worked hard for you, and you say this about her? Quentin, you are so ungrateful!"
Quentin rolled his eyes, too lazy to explain to Kimberly. He pointed to the door and said, "Your daughter knows very well what she has done. This is a hospital, and noisy people are not welcome."
Quentin had issued an eviction order, and Kimberly had nothing more to say, so she had to leave.
Late at night.
Lauren didn't know how long she had slept, only that her body was in inexplicable pain, as if she had been beaten.
She was still in the factory, but the ropes on her hands and feet were gone, and she was wearing an oversized shirt, not knowing whose it was. She sat up and saw Gregory had moved a chair to sit beside her.
"You're awake?" Gregory asked, his face with a signature smile, his tone gentle, as if he were treating someone he loved deeply.
"What do you want now?" Lauren looked at him warily.
She was facing the cunning Gregory, and any carelessness would lead to torment.
"Lauren, I want to apologize to you." Gregory said softly, lowering his head, looking as if he was genuinely admitting his mistake, "I shouldn't have treated you that way, I'm sorry."
Lauren was a bit confused. How did Gregory seem like a different person after she woke up?
What had happened?
Could it be that Quentin had been here?
