Chapter 78 The Bell Ringer
The one who speaks has no intention, but the listener has a heart. When Lauren heard Quentin's words, her hand froze in place, unable to move.
She admitted that she was sometimes careless, but she didn't think she was as bad as Quentin made her out to be. Perhaps it was because of Wendy that everything she did seemed inadequate in his eyes.
"I'm not good enough here, not good enough there. Why are you even looking for me? Go find your Wendy! She's better at taking care of children than I am!" Lauren exploded, not knowing where she found the courage to say such things to Quentin.
Quentin was somewhat surprised. In his mind, Lauren had always been as gentle as a little kitten, so he never expected this gentle kitten to bite back when provoked.
Later, Quentin realized that his earlier words were indeed inappropriate. But his male pride prevented him from admitting his mistake. He wisely chose to remain silent, understanding that actions sometimes speak louder than words.
Taking a tissue, Quentin gently wiped Lauren's lips. His touch as delicate as handling fragile artwork, filled with tenderness and compassion.
Lauren stood there, staring at Quentin's every move with wide eyes.
His handsome face being right in front of her. Lauren could even feel the faint breath coming from Quentin. She was amazed that a man's skin could be so flawless, feeling inferior as a woman.
Shaking her head, Lauren knew it wasn't the time to be infatuated. She should be angry, not admiring Quentin's good looks at that moment.
Quentin carefully helped Lauren clean up and then said, "Give me some more time, I will handle Wendy's situation as soon as possible."
Lauren lowered her head. She didn't want to pressure him, but she desired a life without anyone else's interference, a pure marital life.
After dinner, Quentin left her rented house. Instead of returning to the company, he drove to the set where Wendy was filming.
As the saying goes, it is better for the doer to undo what he has done. Initially, it was Wendy's lie that led to Lauren's misunderstanding, so it had to be Wendy who clarified things this time.
The moment Quentin appeared, his powerful presence attracted everyone's attention. Wendy was surprised and delighted to see him. She never expected Quentin to come to see her, which made her proud.
"Quentin, why are you here?" Wendy ran over excitedly, ignoring the envious glances around her.
"Henry, pause for a moment. I need to borrow some actors from your set." Quentin said to the director, ignoring Wendy but focusing on the director.
The director naturally didn't dare to stop Quentin and nodded with a smile.
Only then did Quentin turn to Wendy and say, "Let's go outside and talk."
Wendy quickly changed out of her costume and followed Quentin into the car.
"Quentin, why are you in such a hurry to see me? Where are we going now?" Wendy asked with a smile.
Wendy's words were ignored by Quentin as he focused on driving, as if there was only him in the car.
Unconcerned by Quentin's coldness, Wendy closed her mouth obediently, somewhat curious about their destination.
The car drove along a small road until it reached the end, where Quentin parked the car and both went out.
Looking at the desolate surroundings, Wendy forced a smile. "Quentin, why did you bring me here?"
With a stern face, Quentin said, "There's no one here to eavesdrop or spy on us. Wendy, do you remember the warning I gave you before?"
Reluctantly nodding, Wendy didn't understand the meaning behind Quentin's words.
"I'm well aware of the wrongdoings you've done behind my back. I've let it slide multiple times, simply because your face resembles someone from my past. So, drop your unrealistic fantasies. I'm married now and about to have my own child. I want you to go to Lauren and clear up the fake pregnancy issue. It ends here." Quentin said sternly, his gaze piercing through Wendy like lasers.
"Is this why you called me here? I don't understand. How am I inferior to that Lauren? Why are you so heartless towards me? You said I look like someone you care about, but I don't believe it. Clearly you have feelings for me, don't you? Why won't you admit it?" Wendy refused to believe Quentin's words, still lost in her beautiful illusions.
Quentin had been special to her. Among many actresses, she was the one he chose to be the lead in the movie he invested in at Robinson Conglomerate. He helped her solve many problems, supporting her to become the most popular star. He attended all events she was present at. Were all of these just coincidences?
"If you still want to pursue your dream as a star, go and talk to Lauren. Otherwise, I guarantee your downfall." Quentin said mercilessly.
His words hit Wendy like a ton of bricks. She couldn't believe Quentin would say such things to her.
"How could you treat me like this, Quentin? I love you so much, don't you know?" Wendy shouted, on the verge of madness. Her happiness shattered so quickly, she had never truly been close to Quentin.
Despairingly, Wendy cried, "Quentin, have you forgotten how you treated Lauren as a stranger for the past two years? Have you forgotten how you've been seeking other women everywhere? I only pretended to be pregnant to ease your troubles. Don't you dislike Lauren? Since you don't want to disappoint Grandma Robinson, let me be the villain. Everything I did was for you!"
"Enough said. I'm just informing you to go talk to Lauren. Stay out of my affairs, which you can't control anyway."
Wendy slumped down, feeling defeated. "You're telling me now that I've been delusional? Quentin, you can't treat me like this. I truly love you!"
"I've said what needed to be said. It's up to you to decide what to do. How far your path as a star goes depends on your choices."
After finishing his words, Quentin went back into the car without looking back, started the engine, and left the place. Wendy sat there alone, looking utterly pitiful.
"Lauren! It's all because of you! It's all your fault!" Wendy grabbed a handful of dirt from the ground and flung it away with force.
"Quentin, you think you can just kick me aside? It's not that easy. I won't let you have it your way, even if it means giving up everything I have!"
They say a woman's fury is the most terrifying. At that moment, Wendy resembled a bloodthirsty monster, eager to taste the blood of her enemies.
