Chapter 410 Bad News

"I'm sorry, Mr. Robinson, but I don't think I have the right to say much."

Lauren threw out this remark, pushed Quentin away, and burrowed back under the covers, not even showing her head.

It was only then that Quentin realized he had said something wrong. He opened his mouth to speak but couldn't find the words to explain.

Just as Lauren woke up in Quentin's arms, Odette also woke up in the arms of a man.

That lucky man was Declan.

Last night, he went out to buy something and happened to see an unconscious Odette being taken away by a masked man.

Declan was startled and decided to follow them carefully.

Odette was taken to a small house.

He couldn't hear what was being said inside, but he saw a few rough-looking guys go in.

Declan knew something was wrong. Taking advantage of a moment when the first man went to make a phone call, he slipped inside.

When Odette's clothes and ropes were being torn off, he couldn't hold back any longer. He grabbed Odette's hand and ran out.

"Declan?" Odette was extremely surprised. She never dreamed that this man would save her.

"Shh!" Declan covered Odette's mouth.

He pulled Odette into a small alley, with those rough guys chasing after them.

Maybe it was the effect of the drugs, or perhaps the so-called suspension bridge effect, Odette suddenly felt a bit of affection for Declan.

"Declan, can you take me home?" Odette pleaded.

She wanted to go home.

Declan's heart fluttered. Did Odette want to go home with him?

And so, the previous scene unfolded.

"Odette, you're awake?" Declan asked cautiously, feeling like the happiest man in the world at that moment.

Odette rubbed her aching temples and looked at Declan with resentment in her eyes.

This disgusting man had taken advantage of her drugged state to get her into bed.

"Declan, right?" Odette asked.

Declan nodded eagerly, and in his expectant gaze, Odette threw out a number. "One million."

"What?" Declan was confused.

One million? One million what?

"One million hush money. Don't tell anyone what happened last night, understand?"

Odette's tone was disdainful.

She hated Declan for taking advantage of her. She wished she could strangle this man who had taken her first time.

But she couldn't.

If things got out and Lauren found out, she would be a laughingstock to her.

So she could only use money to shut Declan up.

Men loved money, especially poor guys like Declan.

He probably had never seen so much money in his life.

Odette thought Declan couldn't possibly refuse her.

Declan had no intention of refusing.

He knew what one million meant. It meant he could find a beautiful woman and reach the pinnacle of his life.

He didn't expect anything from Odette.

After all, they had already slept together, so there was nothing to regret.

After waiting for a while without hearing a reply, Odette became impatient.

She thought Declan felt the money was too little. While mocking him for being greedy in her heart, she held up two fingers and said, "Two million bush money. Is that enough?"

"Enough, enough!" Declan smiled brightly and quickly wrote down his bank account number for Odette, saying, "Transfer it to this account!"

Odette rolled her eyes dramatically, took the paper Declan handed her, got dressed, and left.

When Lauren emerged from the covers, Quentin was gone.

She didn't know when he had left because she had accidentally fallen back asleep.

She suddenly missed Matthew.

Would Matthew be led astray by Gregory? Would he be threatened by Gregory?

She also missed Kimberly, her mother, who had suffered all her life. Was she worried about her safety?

The feeling of missing her family was hard to hide.

Lauren quickly dialed Gregory's number, not forgetting that Kimberly and Matthew were with Gregory now.

"Hello?" When the call connected, Lauren spoke cautiously, afraid that if Kimberly or Matthew answered, her excitement might scare them.

Unfortunately, it was Gregory who answered.

"Hello? Is that you, Lauren?" Gregory's voice sounded anxious, and there seemed to be the sound of small wheels rolling around him.

"Yeah, it's me." Lauren also became a bit nervous.

Could something have happened to Matthew or Kimberly?

"Is it you? That's great!" Gregory's voice was a bit excited.

Before she could think of how to respond, Gregory spoke again.

"Can you come over now?"

"What's wrong?" Lauren's bad feeling grew stronger.

"Well," Gregory replied, then hesitated for a moment before saying, "Lauren, what I'm about to say might be hard for you to accept, so please prepare yourself."

"Okay." Lauren took three deep breaths, gripping the sheets tightly, her voice trembling as she said, "I'm ready. Go ahead."

"Matthew has a fever. He's been in the hospital for three days. Last night, his fever seemed to subside, but this morning it suddenly spiked to 104 degrees. He's in the emergency room now."

Gregory's words made Lauren's pupils contract. She felt like something was blocking her airway, making it hard to breathe.

104 degrees?

She suddenly remembered the time when Quentin had hurt her, and her world had plunged into darkness. It was Matthew who had shown her a glimmer of hope. But now, God wanted to take away her last light.

"Matthew has been calling for Mommy in the ward. I had no choice but to call you. Kimberly hasn't slept for days because of Matthew," Gregory said, his voice filled with infinite sorrow.

Gregory added, "I wanted to find Quentin, but you know Quentin. Now that he has Odette, he won't care about you and Matthew anymore."

"Forget Quentin! Send me the address. I'll be right there!" Lauren was on the verge of tears.

She felt like her whole world was collapsing.

Matthew's fever wouldn't go down?

Of course not!

The kid was sleeping soundly in his room.

Gregory's purpose in saying this was to lure Lauren out, and it was clear that Lauren had taken the bait.

"Lauren, calm down. And don't let Quentin know about Matthew's illness. I'm afraid he might take this opportunity to harm Matthew," Gregory said, holding the script he had prepared the night before.

Hearing this, Lauren paused.

She thought Gregory made sense. She couldn't guarantee that Quentin, now with Odette, would treat Matthew the same as before.

Quentin was never one for charity.

Lauren had known that for a long time.
