Chapter 220 Who's the Daddy

Lauren hurriedly pulled Matthew to her desk, gathered the documents she needed, and was about to take Matthew to find Ethan when she realized Matthew was upset.

Despite his young age, Matthew had his own opinions. Whenever he got angry, he would sulk in silence, his serious expression making Lauren feel a bit uneasy.

"Matthew, shall we find your Uncle Ethan?" Lauren asked gently, trying to appease him.

Matthew glanced at Lauren but said nothing. He ran to another desk and sat down, showing no intention of leaving.

Lauren patiently walked over and squatted in front of him. "Matthew, why are you upset? Is it because of what those people said earlier?"

Matthew finally turned to look at Lauren seriously. "Mommy, are you really going to be with Uncle Ethan? Aren't you waiting for daddy to come back?"

Lauren struggled to find an answer. "Matthew, you're still young. I've told you that the adult world is very complicated, and there are some things you won't understand right now."

"I'm not that young, about to start school. I miss my daddy a lot. Mommy, can you call him and ask him to come back soon? Everyone says I don't have a dad, but that's not true. I have a dad. Why do you want to be with Uncle Ethan?" Matthew said, bursting into tears.

Matthew's words broke Lauren's heart. He had never expressed these feelings to her before, and she hadn't realized he had endured such grievances. Why hadn't he told her?

Lauren comforted, "Matthew, don't cry. Those people are talking nonsense. You're not a child without a father."

"I want to see daddy!" Matthew wiped his tears and looked at Lauren, waiting for her response.

Lauren felt immense pain. She had always worried that Matthew would be bullied and looked down upon. Although she knew that children without fathers often faced challenges, she thought she had protected Matthew well enough, but today, she realized how foolish she had been.

Lauren let out a heavy sigh. Perhaps Matthew would have been happier if he had known the truth all along. After all, she had worked hard for Matthew's happiness.

"Matthew, you're such a brave boy. Wipe away your tears, and I'll tell you a secret," Lauren said, trying to stay calm.

Matthew obediently wiped his tears, but his eyes were still red, and he looked very unhappy.

"Matthew, Quentin is actually your daddy," Lauren said seriously.

She stared at Matthew, unsure if he could accept the news. Matthew fell silent for a moment and then started crying even harder.

Matthew's sobs grew louder.

Lauren didn't know why Matthew was crying. Was he happy, disappointed, or was he blaming her for hiding the truth?

Lauren gently hugged Matthew and comforted him, "Matthew, don't you like Quentin? He really is your daddy. I'm not lying."

Matthew lifted his tear-streaked face. "Mommy, I just can't believe it. Is Quentin really my daddy?"

Lauren wiped away Matthew's tears and said tenderly, "Matthew, I'm sorry I didn't tell you the truth earlier. I didn't want you to suffer so much."

Matthew's sadness disappeared, and he smiled genuinely. "Mommy, don't be sad. I won't cry, and you shouldn't cry either."

Matthew clumsily wiped Lauren's tears with his hands, showing how much he had grown.

Lauren looked at Matthew with relief and said, "Matthew, you're the best. I know you like Quentin. I was just afraid that if you liked your daddy too much, you would forget about me."

Matthew comforted, "Mommy, you're my favorite mommy. No one can take me away from you. I'll never leave you!"

Lauren's heart swelled with warmth at Matthew's words,. She hugged him tightly, feeling a sense of relief.

Matthew was her flesh and blood. She believed that he understood her efforts over the past three years and that he would never be ungrateful.

"If you want to see Quentin, I can take you to visit him for a couple of days. But you have to promise me that you'll be good and not cause any trouble while you're with him," Lauren said, feeling reluctant but supportive of Matthew.

Matthew had suffered too much. He hadn't grown up with the love of both parents and had endured much ridicule. It was the right time now. He was matured and had his own opinions. Lauren couldn't hide the fact that Quentin was his father forever, and she never intended to deceive him.

Matthew was overjoyed at Lauren's words. He excitedly asked her to take him to see Quentin so he could have a good time with his father.

Just as they were about to leave, Ethan returned. Upon learning that Lauren and Matthew were in the office, he eagerly came over.

"Lauren, how come you have time to bring Matthew to the office today?" Ethan asked with a smile.

Lauren replied, "I needed some documents, so I brought Matthew to see you."

Ethan nodded but noticed that Matthew wasn't as friendly as before.

Matthew was preoccupied and anxious.

"Matthew, how about I take you to get some snacks?" Ethan asked, holding Matthew's hand.

Matthew frowned and pulled his hand away. "No, my mommy will take me to see Quentin. I mean, my daddy. Uncle Ethan, Quentin is my daddy. I'm so happy!"

Ethan felt a mix of emotions upon hearing Matthew's words. He looked at Lauren meaningfully, and Lauren smiled wryly at him.

Ethan didn't know what to say. He patted Matthew's head and said, "Really? Matthew, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters."

Matthew ran to Lauren's side, holding her hand and acting spoiled, "Mommy, let's go now! I have so many questions to ask Quentin, my daddy!"

He spoke and laughed, his words and actions full of excitement and joy.

Lauren turned to Ethan and said, "Ethan, we'll talk later. I need to take him to the Robinson Estate now."

Ethan perfectly hid his disappointment and worry. He smiled and nodded, not wanting Lauren to worry about him.

Matthew eagerly pulled Lauren's hand, ready to leave. He had so many questions for Quentin. 'Why didn't Quentin tell me he was my dad? Why did he leave us?'

Thinking about this made Matthew sad. He found it hard to understand the adult world, but he believed Quentin must have had his reasons and genuinely liked him.
