Chapter 331 A Sudden Confession
It had been days since the argument with Quentin, and Noah had been staying at home.
Although Noah knew that the Robinson Conglomerate, now the Martin Conglomerate, needed his leadership to lift spirits, he just felt drained and couldn't muster the energy to leave his bed.
"Noah! I know you're in there. Get out here right now," someone shouted from downstairs.
Upon hearing that, Noah squinted and checked the time on his phone, only to see fifteen missed calls from Sophia.
'So it was Sophia,' he thought, feeling a bit more awake.
He quickly got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. Seeing his scruffy face in the mirror, he felt a pang of frustration.
'She's probably here because of Quentin,' he thought, punching the wall in anger.
Why did she still care so much about Quentin after everything he put her through?
No matter what Noah did for her, she always seemed to overlook it.
After a quick wash, he went downstairs to let Sophia in. He didn't want to keep her waiting and risk making her mad.
"Noah, what the hell is going on?" Sophia demanded as soon as she walked in.
"What do you mean?" Noah played dumb, acting like he had no clue what she was talking about.
Of course, it was about Quentin.
"Cut the crap. I know everything," Sophia said, shoving her phone in his face. "Look at this. Why is the president of Robinson Conglomerate still listed as you? Are you not planning to give it back to Quentin? The company's been in chaos these past few days."
"So what if I am!" Noah snapped, even though he knew he shouldn't take it out on Sophia. He couldn't help feeling angry and jealous.
"I never thought you'd betray him. You've known each other for years, and he always saw you as his most trusted friend," Sophia said, clearly disappointed.
"I did it for you!" Noah blurted out, unable to hold back any longer. All his pent-up feelings came rushing out.
"For me?" Sophia looked puzzled.
"You've done so much for Quentin, but all he ever thinks about is Lauren. I just can't stand seeing you hurt," Noah explained.
Sophia had never seen Noah so emotional and knew he wasn't lying.
Before she could figure out what to say, Noah suddenly pulled her into a tight hug.
"Sophia, I fell for you the moment I saw you. Even after all these years, and despite knowing your love for Quentin, I can't help how I feel. I'm hopelessly in love with you," Noah confessed.
Sophia was stunned by Noah's sudden confession. "Noah, are you serious? I..."
Sophia had never seen this coming. Before she showed up at Noah's place, she had run through a bunch of scenarios in her head.
Maybe Noah was just temporarily blinded by money, and she figured she could talk some sense into him.
She knew Noah would listen to her.
Or maybe there was some beef between Noah and Quentin, and Noah was holding onto the shares out of spite.
If that was the case, she thought she could just calm Noah down.
But what just happened caught her off guard, leaving her completely flustered.
"Sophia," Noah let go of her and grabbed her shoulders, looking her straight in the eyes. "Why won't you give me a chance? I have everything Quentin has now. What he can't give you, I can."
"I don't know," Sophia slumped onto the sofa, almost in tears. "I don't believe you. If you really liked me, why didn't you say something earlier? I'm already engaged to Quentin."
"Does that even count?" Noah shot back. "At your engagement party, Quentin ditched you to go find Lauren."
That hit a nerve, reopening old wounds for Sophia.
She just sat there quietly, tears streaming down her face.
"Alright, stop crying," Noah's heart softened seeing her so upset. He knelt down and gently wiped her tears. "It's my fault. I won't bring it up again. Please don't cry."
"I don't get you guys," Sophia said, feeling utterly wronged. "One says he wants to marry me but leaves me hanging, and the other says he loves me but never showed it all these years. How was I supposed to know?"
"Now you know who truly loves you?" Noah pulled her into his arms and vowed, "Sophia, marry me. I'll treat you right and make you happy."
"My head's all over the place right now. Can I go home and think about it before I give you an answer?" Sophia replied.
Seeing her so conflicted, Noah let her go. This was a lot to take in.
Sophia turned down Noah's offer to drive her home, saying she needed some time alone to clear her head.
Noah agreed and didn't push it, just reminding her to stay safe on the way.
After leaving Noah's house, Sophia got back to her car. As soon as she closed the door, the tears stopped.
With a blank expression, she pulled out her foundation from her bag and started touching up her makeup.
It was like she was a completely different person, her demeanor changing in an instant.
Sophia sneered, "Men's words are all lies. What you think has nothing to do with me. I don't care."
After checking her makeup in the mirror and making sure it was perfect, she drove off.
At that moment, the curtains of a room on the second floor were drawn shut.
