Chapter 87 A New Spokesperson
Lauren emerged from the bedroom listlessly as Quentin opened his clear eyes from the bed. She went to the kitchen to make breakfast, hesitating whether to ask Quentin how things were progressing with Wendy. Lauren yearned to return openly to the Robinson family and, even more, to be Quentin's only wife. Her love could not tolerate the intrusion of another's affections.
Quentin also emerged, looking relaxed, which infuriated Lauren. 'He sneaked into my room without even explaining. Does he really think I'm just a casual girl?' Lauren thought better of it, realizing she rarely got answers from Quentin, so why bother tormenting herself?
Quentin noticed that since he got up, Lauren seemed a bit off. 'Is it because I got into her bed without her consent?' Quentin didn't dwell on it, believing Lauren would eventually calm down.
Just then, Quentin received a phone call. After a few words, he picked up his things and prepared to leave. "I'm off to work," Quentin said to Lauren's back.
Lauren replied without turning around, not saying another word.
"I'll come back tonight," Quentin added, but without waiting for Lauren's response, he turned and left.
After Quentin left, Lauren put down the spatula, feeling utterly dispirited. 'Stupid Quentin, can't you see I'm unhappy?' Lauren muttered to herself.
Seeing no action from Wendy, Quentin had ceased all cooperation between the Robinson Conglomerate and Wendy. Wendy was a popular celebrity, and her endorsement promised great market potential. Many companies vied for her endorsement but couldn't get it. Quentin's move left the other directors of the Robinson Conglomerate puzzled.
Quentin arrived at the Robinson Conglomerate, where Cecilia, who had been waiting for a long time, greeted him.
"Mr. Robinson, all the directors and senior leaders are waiting for you in the conference room on the twenty-second floor," Cecilia said seriously.
Since becoming Quentin's secretary, it was the first time she had seen such a grand assembly, and she couldn't help but feel a bit nervous for Quentin.
"Got it," Quentin replied, heading straight to the conference room. As he opened the door, he saw several directors with stern expressions.
"Hello, everyone, sorry for being late." Quentin nodded to the group and took his seat at the head of the table.
"Mr. Robinson, we apologize for calling you during your rest. We hear you intend to terminate all cooperation with Wendy and want to ask if this is true," Robert said directly.
Quentin raised an eyebrow and nodded. "Yes, the termination process is almost complete, right, Cecilia?"
"Yes, Mr. Robinson, there are just a few final details to wrap up," Cecilia answered truthfully.
Robert became even more agitated. "Mr. Robinson, what is going on? Don't you know Wendy is the hottest star right now? Many in City A are scrambling to work with her, but why do you end the cooperation?"
Quentin's face turned cold as he replied, "I have my reasons. Are you all gathered here to question my decision?"
"It's not about questioning, just wanting to understand the company's decisions. Many of our projects are tied to Wendy. If we suddenly terminate the cooperation, what will happen to those projects?" Another director said.
Robert continued, "Yes. We don't care about your reasons; we just want to know your next steps."
Seeing Quentin's increasingly displeased expression, Noah worried that the situation might spiral out of control. He stood up and quickly interjected, "This matter requires careful consideration. Everyone should trust Mr. Robinson. Under his leadership, the Robinson Conglomerate has been thriving these past few years."
"But we have the right to know all company decisions. We're not forcing Mr. Robinson to make any promises; we just don't want the company to suffer due to personal reasons."
"If anyone disagrees with my decision, feel free to replace me," Quentin said, unwilling to explain further.
Sensing Quentin's anger, Robert quickly tried to defuse the situation. "Quentin, don't be upset. We're just looking out for the company. If you have a better candidate, we will certainly support you."
"This meeting is too abrupt, and Mr. Robinson isn't prepared. Let's give him some time to gather his thoughts. We can continue this discussion later," Noah suggested, trying to mediate.
When Quentin got angry, the consequences were severe. Everyone in the conference room left without objection, leaving only Noah and Quentin.
"So, what have you been so secretive about lately?" Noah asked.
Quentin recounted the recent events to Noah, including Wendy's fake pregnancy.
Quentin intended to use the contract termination to warn Wendy and prompt her to take action. Noah supported this approach.
"I didn't expect Wendy to be so deceitful. What's your next move?" Noah asked.
Quentin pondered seriously, "Who do you think could replace Wendy as our new spokesperson?"
"Honestly, given the current situation, there's no female star hotter than Wendy. I can't think of anyone more suitable," Noah admitted.
Quentin's face darkened. Regardless of whether there was a suitable replacement, he would never use Wendy again.
"When it comes to who's the hottest in City A, it's definitely you, Quentin. Why not handle everything by yourself?" Noah joked.
Quentin shot Noah a sharp look. "You must be kidding. Even if I quit my current position, I would never become a product spokesperson."
"I am just joking! But seriously, your popularity in City A is no less than Wendy's. Especially your wife, Lauren—everyone knows her name but not her face," Noah said.
Quentin fell into thought. Despite being married to Lauren for so long, he had never taken her to any formal events or introduced her officially to others.
Seeing Quentin's contemplative look, Noah nodded, realizing they had the same idea.
Quentin wanted to take the opportunity to introduce Lauren to everyone, while Noah aimed to leverage Quentin's popularity to promote their products.
