Chapter 337 An Unintentional Encounter
Hearing that, Sophia was momentarily speechless.
If she answered, it would seem like she only cared about Quentin's money.
But money did hold a significant place in her heart.
"I was just giving you some friendly advice. I didn't expect you to see me this way," Sophia said.
Meanwhile, Lauren walked in with a lunchbox.
"Hey Quentin, I brought you lunch," Lauren said. She looked around but Quentin was nowhere to be seen.
She glanced further inside and saw Quentin sitting on a sofa by the window, with a computer in front of him.
Just as Lauren was about to tease Quentin for slacking off, she noticed Sophia sitting on the sofa opposite Quentin, initially hidden from view by a corner.
Seeing Lauren, Sophia found it amusing and questioned Quentin, "You two back together already?"
"None of your business. You better focus on your own," Quentin replied coldly.
"What do you mean by that?" Sophia feigned innocence, feeling a bit guilty.
'Did he know about my recent affairs with Noah? No way,' Sophia thought.
Only she and Noah knew about those things, and now that Noah and Quentin had fallen out, Quentin couldn't possibly know.
Besides, Quentin had nothing now, while Noah came from a wealthy and influential family. Noah had recently become the CEO of Robinson Conglomerate, making him unbeatable in City A.
Noah loved her dearly, and any smart person would know whether to choose Noah or Quentin.
"Who you're close to now has nothing to do with me," Sophia said, turning her gaze to Lauren, "On the day of the engagement ceremony, you left me for this bitch, so it's not like I abandoned or betrayed you."
Sophia wanted to say more, but seeing Quentin ignore her even more after Lauren arrived, she bit her tongue.
"Lauren," Quentin gestured for Lauren to sit beside him. "You came just in time. I'm a bit hungry."
Lauren forced a smile, her eyes involuntarily glancing at Sophia.
Sophia's presence made it hard for Lauren not to overthink.
"Sophia, didn't you say you had something to do and needed to leave?" Quentin said, basically telling Sophia to get lost.
Hearing Quentin's harsh tone, Sophia didn't want to stick around and deal with his cold attitude.
She snorted, grabbed her bag, and quickly walked out.
Lauren wanted to ask Quentin why Sophia had shown up so fast. After all, it was Quentin's first day at work, and Sophia seemed to have the scoop way too quickly.
But Lauren wasn't sure if she had the right to ask. After all, she and Quentin were nothing now, at most, she was his ex-wife.
'Quentin must have told Sophia. After all, she's his fiancée. Then why did he still ask me to bring him lunch?' Lauren thought.
Lauren wavered between feeling like she belonged and snuffing out any hope.
'Maybe they had a fight, and Quentin is using me to get back at her,' Lauren thought, feeling a bit down.
'Lauren, you're too naive. A broken relationship is like a shattered mirror; you can't just put it back together,' she thought, finding it laughable.
"You don't need to overthink. I don't know how Sophia found this place, probably Noah told her," Quentin said without looking at Lauren, unsure if it was meant to comfort her.
"Yeah, I didn't ask anything," Lauren replied stubbornly, lowering her head.
Did the truth matter that much?
Even if Quentin didn't call Sophia to hang out now, what about the future? Lauren was genuinely afraid of Quentin's unpredictability.
Lauren's innocence and simplicity had vanished with each argument, along with trust and passion.
She didn't want to think too much. It only made her more conflicted, so she started setting the table.
"Alright, let's not talk about it. Eating cold food messes up my stomach," Lauren said, serving some food for herself and Quentin, and then picking up her utensils to eat.
She had made all of Quentin's favorite dishes, and chicken soup was a must.
Lauren knew Quentin's taste very well.
After tasting a bite, Quentin remarked, "Your cooking has improved a lot."
Naturally, after becoming a mom, Lauren cooked every day, probably getting better with practice.
Matthew loved her cooking the most. Lauren never trusted outside food, so even in Paris, no matter how busy she was, she would come home to cook for Matthew.
"Where's Matthew?" Quentin asked.
So Quentin still remembered Matthew. Lauren didn't quite understand Quentin's behavior.
"My mom is taking care of him," Lauren replied.
"Okay," Quentin responded softly and continued eating without saying anything.
