Chapter 298 Stirring Up Trouble

The crowd watching the scandal was growing, and their gossip was making Lauren super uncomfortable. She hated being the center of attention, especially as a joke.

Ulysses, on the other hand, couldn't care less about what people thought. The louder they laughed, the closer he felt to getting what he wanted.

Kimberly was yelling at Ulysses with everything she had, but he didn't flinch. To him, she was always insignificant, and now her words meant even less.

Lauren knew this couldn't go on. She helped Kimberly up and turned to Ulysses, saying, "Dad, it's been three years since we last saw each other. Why is the first thing you do to treat Mom like this? Do you even see us as family?"

Ulysses looked at Lauren with annoyance. "You've got some nerve talking to me like that. Fine, you don't respect me, but I just hope you can save my life."

Seeing Ulysses' aged and pale face, Lauren felt a pang of sorrow. No matter how much he had hurt her and Kimberly, she couldn't be completely heartless. "Dad, can we talk about this at home?"

Ulysses was too anxious to wait. He glanced at the door and saw two men in black with black hats, and he shrank back in fear. "No, this is life and death; it can't wait."

As Ulysses spoke, fear flashed in his eyes. Lauren's gut told her he might really be in trouble this time.

Kimberly patted her hand, saying, "Lauren, Ulysses is a heartless jerk. Have you forgotten he cut ties with us three years ago? Even if he's in trouble, we shouldn't get involved! It's his own mess!"

Lauren knew Kimberly's harsh words hid a soft heart. Even though they were divorced, decades of marriage didn't just vanish.

"Mom, let's at least hear him out before we decide," Lauren suggested.

With a cold expression, Kimberly returned to the lounge with Lauren's support.

Seeing a stranger enter, Matthew clung to Lauren, looking scared.

Lauren felt a deep sadness seeing Matthew's reaction. It had been three years, and Matthew, now three, had never met his grandfather.

Ulysses showed no shame and ignored Matthew, continuing to plead with Lauren, "Lauren, I'm really in trouble this time. You can't just let me die."

As Ulysses spoke, he started to cry in despair. If he hadn't been lucky, he might have died a few days ago.

Lauren pushed aside her sadness and asked, "What exactly happened? Who wants to kill you?"

Ulysses sighed, too embarrassed to explain, "Don't ask, just help me!"

Lauren frowned. "I can't help if I don't know what's going on."

Ulysses snapped impatiently, "Why are you making this so hard when I'm asking for help?"

Seeing Ulysses' cold and heartless attitude, Kimberly was completely fed up. "Ulysses, you're a heartless jerk! Is this how you ask for help? Matthew is standing right here, and you didn't even acknowledge him! Is this how a grandfather acts? And now you have the nerve to ask Lauren for help? Give me a break!"

Ulysses' anger flared even more. "Oh, so now you think you're so capable and don't need me anymore, huh? You can badmouth me all you want, but I'm still Lauren's father, and that won't change! If you don't help me, you're just wishing me dead! And if I die, it won't be easy for you either!"

Lauren's head throbbed from their arguing. "Enough! Both of you, stop it! Dad, what do you want me to do?"

"Lauren," Kimberly called her name helplessly, knowing that Lauren couldn't refuse Ulysses. She could only look at Ulysses angrily, her heart aching.

Ulysses looked desperate. "I want you to ask Quentin to get someone to let me go."

Lauren fell silent. Quentin? How was this related to Quentin? She was at a loss, as she had no connection with Quentin anymore. How could she have the nerve to bother him?

"Lauren! I know you divorced him, but you must still have feelings. If you ask him, he'll definitely help!" Ulysses continued to plead pitifully.

Kimberly stood up angrily. "No, she can't help you with this. She's about to marry Ethan, and she has nothing to do with Quentin anymore. Don't think you can use your mess to ruin Lauren's new life!"

Ulysses glared at Kimberly viciously. "You don't know anything!" He turned to Lauren and said, "If you don't ask Quentin, I might as well be dead."

"Dad, it's not that I don't want to help, but you haven't even told me the truth. Even if I go to him, I wouldn't know what to say," Lauren responded, torn between her father and her promise to stay away from Quentin.

Ulysses sighed deeply and explained, "It's really not my fault. I went to a casino with some friends and accidentally disrupted a mafia drug deal. They sthreatened to kill me, and I was so scared that I mentioned Quentin. Turns out, his name carries some weight, but now the mafia boss wants to meet Quentin in person. If that doesn't happen, they'll kill me!"

Lauren was shocked. "Dad, why did you go to such a place! Those people are not to be messed with. Being scared now won't help anything!"

"Enough, blaming me won't help! There are two men outside watching me; I can't escape! Lauren, you have to help me!" Ulysses was terrified just thinking about it.

"This is all your own doing! Lauren can't help you! If you want to die, don't drag Lauren down with you!" Kimberly shouted, disappointed.

Ulysses angrily pointed at Kimberly and cursed, "You heartless woman, I must have been blind to marry you!"

Lauren rubbed her temples, her headache worsening. Ulysses didn't seem to be lying, and the most troubling part was that even if she asked Quentin for help, he might not agree.

She was at a loss, knowing she had to help. But whether she could succeed, she had no confidence.

"Dad, Mom, please stop arguing!" Lauren couldn't help but shout.

Kimberly lowered her head in sadness.
