Chapter 121 The Invitation to Return Home
Lauren rose to open the door, already guessing that the visitor might be the housekeeper bringing them food. The thought of the long-unseen housekeeper made Lauren a bit excited. She was very grateful to him, as he had taken good care of her during those two years.
The moment she opened the door and saw Lauren, the housekeeper was surprised. He was unable to react for a long time.
"Madam, is it really you?" The housekeeper's joy surpassed his surprise. Ever since Lauren had left the Robinson family mansion with her luggage, he hadn't had a chance to speak a word to her.
Lauren nodded. "Housekeeper, long time no see. How have you been? How's your health?"
"I've been very well, madam. And you? How have you been? I can't believe it's only been a few months, and the child is already so big. Will the baby be born in about three months?" The housekeeper couldn't stop smiling. Seeing that Lauren looked well, he felt relieved.
"Yes, thank you for always thinking of me," Lauren replied.
They chatted happily at the door while Quentin, lying in bed, became invisible.
Unhappy about being ignored, Quentin coughed. "Housekeeper, did you bring the chicken soup I asked for?"
The housekeeper finally snapped out of it. "Yes, I brought it."
"Housekeeper, please come in. We can chat inside," Lauren said with a smile.
The housekeeper agreed, fully aware of what Lauren's presence in Quentin's hospital room meant. Lauren's return to the Robinson family mansion was imminent.
The housekeeper removed the food from the thermal container, first serving Quentin a bowl of chicken soup and then Lauren a large bowl.
Quentin noticed that Lauren's bowl was significantly larger than his own. He glanced at the housekeeper, but the housekeeper's eyes remained fixed on Lauren, oblivious to Quentin.
"Madam, you must eat more. The more you eat, the stronger the baby will grow," Housekeeper said with heartfelt concern. He didn't know how Lauren had been faring outside, whether she had been mistreated.
If Lauren were still living at the Robinson family mansion, he would have taken good care of her and ensured she suffered no grievances.
Lauren smiled and said, "I know, Housekeeper. The baby is already over six months old. Every time I finish eating, he kicks my belly hard, so I think he will be very strong."
"Really?" Housekeeper said excitedly, not noticing that he had spoken before Quentin could.
Quentin was also curious. Before Quentin could express his thoughts, the housekeeper had already spoken.
Quentin was angry! The consequences were serious!
However, when Quentin saw Lauren happily discussing these matters with the housekeeper, he couldn't help but interrupt the pleasant moment.
Quentin felt frustrated. 'Why does Lauren and Housekeeper have so much to talk about? Why do I feel like I can't get a word in?
Lauren noticed Quentin sitting to the side with a dark expression and found it strange.
Remembering Dr. Olivia's advice to involve the child's father in her pregnancy, she turned to look at Quentin.
"Quentin, do you know what fetal movement is?" Lauren inquired.
Quentin looked deeply into Lauren's eyes. Such a question was no challenge for him.
"It's when the baby kicks you inside your belly," Quentin explained.
Lauren smiled, surprised that Quentin knew.
"Have you ever seen fetal movement?" Lauren's eyes were gentle, waiting for Quentin to give a negative answer.
Quentin rolled his eyes at Lauren. How could he have seen fetal movement when he was becoming a father for the first time?
Lauren was delighted to see his reaction. "I know you haven't seen it. Well, today, I'll be merciful and give you a chance to witness what real fetal movement is. But first, let me finish my soup."
With that, Lauren picked up the bowl and began drinking the chicken soup.
The housekeeper knew he was superfluous here. At his age, he certainly didn't want to be a third wheel.
"Young Master, you two eat first. I'll head back now and come to collect these things in the evening," the housekeeper said.
Quentin nodded, thinking that the housekeeper should have left long ago in this situation.
After Lauren finished eating, the baby in her belly indeed started to 'exercise' vigorously.
The baby seemed to be full and energetic, kicking Lauren's belly with their little feet from left to right.
"Look, the baby is kicking me!" Lauren exclaimed, radiating maternal warmth.
Quentin was stunned to see Lauren like this. "I see."
"Every time I finish eating, he fusses for a while," Lauren said, looking at her belly with a gentle expression.
Seeing Lauren's belly suddenly bulge here and there, Quentin became a bit worried.
"Does it hurt? When he kicks you, does it make you uncomfortable?" Quentin asked.
Lauren laughed upon hearing this. So, Quentin wasn't all-knowing and all-powerful after all.
"Of course, it doesn't hurt. The baby is so small that his little arms and legs can't possibly hurt me. His strength is lighter than a tickle!" Lauren explained.
"That's good." Quentin sighed in relief.
Lauren stroked her belly and said, "The baby is very well-behaved. When he grows up, he should be a lot like me. If it's a boy, he'll be a bit reserved. If it's a girl, she'll be very gentle."
Perhaps Lauren's actions influenced Quentin, as he unconsciously placed his right hand on Lauren's belly, feeling the baby's response.
It was truly amazing. Life was indeed nature's most wondrous gift.
Quentin's large hand gently caressed Lauren's belly as if touching a precious treasure, afraid of causing any harm.
"A girl would be best because daughters are their father's little sweethearts from a past life," Quentin said in a calm tone as if stating a common fact.
But Lauren was displeased by this statement. "Is she a little sweetheart? Why don't you say daughters are their mothers' little princesses?"
Quentin looked at Lauren seriously. "Because I'm so excellent. I must have had many sweethearts in my past life."
Lauren was speechless. It turned out Quentin could be shameless no matter the time or place.
"Fine," she conceded.
Whether in arguments or wit, she could never win against Quentin.
"Lauren, after I get discharged, move back to the Robinson family mansion," Quentin said with bright eyes.
Lauren was momentarily lost, almost getting lost in Quentin's gaze.
Lauren didn't know if Quentin's words implied a desire to reconcile, but she panicked at the thought. 'Am I really going back just like that?'
