Chapter 157 Rivals in Love Meet
In his drunken state, Quentin felt a woman near him after leaving the White family. That feeling made him think Lauren had come over.
Quentin opened his confused eyes and looked at the pure and beautiful Sophia in front of him. "Why are you here?" he asked her.
His tone couldn't hide his disappointment.
Sophia looked worried. She remarked, "What's wrong with you? I've never seen you like this."
Quentin sneered, "Nothing, I wanted to relax. Drinking a bit is good. It makes me feel better." As he spoke, Quentin took another swig of alcohol.
Sophia grabbed the bottle from his hand. She gently suggested, "Stop drinking. If you have any worries, you can tell me. Maybe I can't help you, but at least I can comfort you. Let me hear your troubles, okay?"
Quentin's face turned cold. He stubbornly said, "It's nothing. I can handle it myself."
"Is it about your wife? Doesn't she still want to come back? Is it because of me?" Sophia asked cautiously.
"No, it has nothing to do with you. I didn't handle things well between us. I know Lauren's feeling wronged," Quentin spoke with sadness, which made Sophia feel heartbroken, too.
She had never seen Quentin so downcast. In her impression, he was always positive, always the strongest. He shouldn't be this low.
She suggested, "Quentin, I'm sorry. If you need me to, I can talk to her. I'll explain everything to her." Sophia was very sad. She still loved Quentin, but they had lost so much and couldn't be restored.
Quentin shook his head in disagreement. He sadly said, "No need, Sophia. She has a new life now. I shouldn't disturb her."
Sophia remarked, "She's probably just saying things out of anger. Let me try. I don't want to be the reason for your broken relationship."
Sophia's eyes were firm. She wanted to win Quentin's love back in a rightful way.
Quentin looked at her seriously. "He remarked, You've really grown up. You're no longer the little girl who needed my protection."
"Yes, we've both changed. We've been through so much. I'm glad we can still sit and talk like this," Sophia replied.
Quentin remained silent. Although he had completely let go of the hurt Sophia caused him, their relationship could only be that of friends.
"Thank you, Sophia," Quentin said earnestly.
Sophia felt awkward. She rebutted, "Thank me? Don't joke. This time, you saved me without holding a grudge and helped me clean up the mess at Hall Corporation. You solved so many problems for me. I should be the one thanking you."
"Please don't thank you. If you can get Lauren to change her mind, it would help me," Quentin said.
In his desperation, Quentin made a wrong choice. He felt Lauren might listen to Sophia's explanation, a stranger's face, which might be better than his.
Seeing Quentin's attitude, Sophia became more interested in Lauren.
'What kind of woman can make Quentin change so much, completely replacing my position? I want to find out,' she thought.
Sophia got Lauren's contact information from Quentin and called Lauren the next day.
Seeing an unfamiliar number, Lauren wondered who it was.
"Hello," Lauren answered the call.
Sophia spoke calmly, "Hello, Miss Walker. This is Sophia. Sorry to bother you like this."
Lauren was stunned for a moment. Sophia was Quentin's first love.
"What do you need from me?" Lauren asked warily.
'Is Sophia going to declare war on me?' she thought.
Sophia no longer needed to do that. She was already Quentin's past.
Lauren's straightforwardness surprised Sophia. "Miss Walker, can we meet and talk?" she requested.
Lauren needed help to refuse others' requests, which was her biggest flaw. Of course, she agreed to meet Sophia for other reasons, too. She wanted to break free from the past completely.
"Okay, tell me the place, and I'll come to you," Lauren said without hesitation.
After hanging up, Lauren arranged for a nanny to take care of Matthew and went alone to the place where she had agreed to meet Sophia.
Lauren saw Sophia sitting there through the window. Sophia had dressed up, her delicate makeup highlighting her features, and she wore a white outfit that perfectly showcased her noble temperament.
Lauren looked down at herself. After having a child, she paid less attention to her appearance. She wore a warm coat and tied her hair before heading out. The difference between her and Sophia should be quite obvious.
"Hello, Miss Hall," Lauren greeted politely as she approached Sophia.
Sophia stood up abruptly. After saying "Hello," she seriously examined Lauren, smiling meaningfully.
Seeing Sophia staring at her without speaking, Lauren chuckled. "You should know me. Am I scaring you with my appearance?"
Sophia realized she was being rude and extended her right hand. She politely remarked, "Miss Walker, I'm sorry. You look a bit different from your photos."
Lauren didn't mind and shook Sophia's hand. She no longer cared about others' opinions.
"Miss Hall, why did you want to meet me? I don't think we have much in common to talk about," Lauren asked.
Sophia didn't expect Lauren to be so straightforward, but she liked direct people.
Sophia coyly replied, "Who says we don't? We both know the same man very well."
Sophia smiled, wanting to see Lauren's attitude towards Quentin. Was she just angry or truly disheartened?
Lauren graciously said, "You mean Quentin, right? I think you should know that he and I are already divorced. The child is with me so that you can reconcile with him without any worries."
"Miss Walker, I heard about your divorce. But I want to say something for Quentin. We're not in the kind of relationship you think. You should know what I did when I left him back then," Sophia said.
"Miss Hall, I'm really sorry. I don't have much time to reminisce with you. So if you don't have any other questions, I'd like to leave now," Lauren interrupted Sophia coldly.
If Sophia had come to reminisce about her sweet past with Quentin, Lauren didn't want to stay.
Lauren stood up as she spoke. She shouldn't have come, but she wanted to know what kind of person Quentin's first love was.
Sophia quickly said, "Miss Walker, don't you want to know what Quentin was doing during those days he went missing?"
Lauren stopped. She did want to know. Although Quentin had explained, she wanted to hear it from Sophia.
"I know he was with you," Lauren said expressionlessly.
