Chapter 307 Car Accident
Quentin stared at Sophia, who was crying her eyes out. Back in the day, seeing her like this would have torn him apart. But now? He felt nothing. His love for her was long gone.
He thought she had moved on and they could just be friends. But clearly, she was still hung up on their past.
Quentin figured it was time to set things straight. Better to rip off the band-aid than let her keep living in a fantasy. "Sophia, we're done. There's no going back." His words hit Sophia like a ton of bricks, and she started shaking.
"I don't believe you! Have you forgotten how much we loved each other? You said you'd love me forever! If you don't love me, why did you save me and keep me around for three years?" Sophia shouted, refusing to accept it.
Quentin sighed. He wanted to let her down easy, but she wasn't making it easy.
"I saved you because those guys were after me. You got caught up in it because of me. For the past three years, I've only seen you as a friend. I never paid attention to the rumors," Quentin said, his voice cold.
"Friend? Who wants to be your friend?" Sophia snapped. She felt like a fool, living in a dream. Quentin never loved her.
"If you don't want to be friends, then let's just stop seeing each other," Quentin said, still indifferent.
He didn't want her to waste her life on him. His heart was closed off, and it was better to be blunt now, so she could move on.
Sophia couldn't believe how heartless he was—first rejecting her love, now pushing her to be friends. She was devastated and furious, and a crazy idea popped into her head.
Sophia started coughing, looking a mess. "Sorry, I need to use the restroom."
She rushed out, leaving Quentin in the office. He was determined to make her understand. It was harsh, but better to end the pain quickly. She needed to live her own life.
In the restroom, Sophia called Ruby, her voice shaky. "Mom, can we go ahead with the plan you mentioned?"
Ruby was thrilled. "Sophia, you finally agree! Yes, we can. Everything's ready. We just need to sync with Quentin's schedule."
"Okay, no problem. He'll be at our house in two hours. Make sure everything's set up. It has to work the first time," Sophia said, her voice flat.
If she couldn't have Quentin, no one could. Losing him meant losing everything, so she wanted to take him down with her.
Ruby didn't catch the strange tone in Sophia's voice. She hung up, excited to get things rolling.
Sophia splashed some water on her face, fixed her makeup, and strolled out of the restroom. She wore a faint smile, like the heartbroken girl from earlier was someone else entirely. With her head held high, she confidently walked back to Quentin's desk.
Seeing the radiant Sophia, Quentin's gaze deepened, but he felt no pity and continued their earlier conversation. "Sophia, what's your decision?" he asked.
A flash of malice crossed Sophia's eyes. She looked at Quentin with a charming smile and replied, "You know I can't be heartless to you. Fine, we'll be good friends from now on, but that doesn't stop me from loving you. That's my right, and you can't interfere."
"Why are you doing this?" Quentin asked, slightly annoyed. He knew how stubborn Sophia could be, so this would take time.
Sophia smirked, "Alright, my good friend Mr. Robinson, can you treat me to a meal and then take me home? I'm starving."
Quentin glanced at his watch. It was already 1 PM. He nodded, grabbed his jacket, and left the office with Sophia.
Sophia seemed to enjoy the lunch, at least on the surface. She chatted and laughed with Quentin at the table, as if they were back in the days when they were in love.
Sophia felt a bit nostalgic, but looking at the handsome yet cold Quentin in front of her, her gaze hardened. She thought, 'Quentin, you forced me into this!'
She had a grand plan that required her to take a risk. She and Quentin would face the car accident together, which had been arranged by Ruby. If fate was on her side and they survived, she would have a chance to be with Quentin. Quentin hated owing people, so if she played her cards right, becoming Mrs. Robinson wouldn't be a dream.
If Quentin didn't survive, she would die with him. If she couldn't have the Quentin she loved, there was no point in living.
If she died, she would find solace in the fact that Quentin would feel guilty towards her whether he survived or died.
Things went according to Ruby and Sophia's plan. Quentin's red Ferrari was surrounded by cars, and although Quentin sensed something was wrong, he didn't expect someone to ram his car in broad daylight.
Once, twice, three times.
The car window shattered, but the attackers didn't stop.
Shocked, Quentin reached out his right hand to protect Sophia.
Sophia didn't expect Quentin to still think of protecting her in such a critical moment. She was somewhat moved.
"Quentin," Sophia's weak voice was drowned out by the loud crashes outside.
Quentin, steering the wheel, shouted, "Don't be afraid, we'll be fine."
Sophia thought, 'There's no way we'll be fine.' However, she didn't dare say it. She feared Quentin would realize it was all her plan.
At that moment, a large truck sped towards them. Seeing the danger, Sophia hurriedly unbuckled her seatbelt, instinctively throwing herself onto Quentin. Then, amidst Quentin's shouts, she lost consciousness.
