Chapter 413 Gregory's Revenge

Quentin placed the phone back on the nightstand next to the sleeping Lauren.

He hadn't meant to answer that call, and honestly, he never expected that after all this time, he would still have to use the same leverage against Gregory.

There was no other way.

Gregory was too cunning, and even Quentin found it difficult to catch him off guard with new evidence in a short period.

"Sir, should we wake Mrs. Robinson at night if needed?" the freckled maid asked cautiously.

"No need," Quentin replied curtly. Feeling it wasn't enough, he added, "Don't let her know I was here."

"Yes, sir," the maid agreed, though she was puzzled. She didn't dare question Quentin further.

"Make sure she's well taken care of," Quentin instructed before driving away.

The next day, the headlines were dominated by a photo.

In the picture, a man and a woman were intimately holding hands, walking out of a hotel.

The man was Quentin, and the woman was Odette.

The headline was sensational: [Shocking! Mr. Robinson's Scandalous Affair! Wife or Mistress?]

The article matched the headline, detailing how Quentin had taken Odette to the hotel and what props they supposedly used, all fabricated in great detail.

Quentin stared at the photo on his phone screen, wishing he could find and punish the person who Photoshopped the image and wrote the article.

He had no idea who dared to fabricate such news about him.

Quentin was furious, but he remained rational.

This incident wouldn't break him mentally.

After all, his scandals didn't affect the operations of Robinson Conglomerate, but they did impact his life, especially concerning Lauren.

He immediately ordered the villa to shut down all electronic devices. He couldn't let Lauren see this, absolutely not.

Then he tracked down the journalist's publisher and discovered that the reporter had boarded a flight to Canada half an hour earlier.

Quentin gritted his teeth.

It was premeditated, but he didn't know who was behind it.

For now, the most suspicious person was Gregory, but he was also the least likely suspect.

After much thought, Quentin decided to start with Gregory.

The only other person he could suspect was Odette, but Quentin knew she wasn't smart enough for this.

"Hey, Mr. Robinson, did you see the surprise I prepared for you?" Gregory called before Quentin could reach out to him.

"You?"

"Yeah, are you happy? Surprised?" Gregory laughed, hearing the anger in Quentin's voice.

He was thrilled; he wanted to see Quentin angry, hoping it would drive him mad.

"Gregory, if you dare pull something like this again, you'll face the consequence," Quentin warned.

He should be grateful Gregory wasn't in front of him, or he might have lashed out physically.

"Just wait and see," Gregory said before hanging up.

Back at the villa, Lauren woke up to find her phone missing.

"Excuse me, have you seen my phone?" Lauren asked the freckled maid who brought her breakfast.

The maid thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I'm sorry, I don't know."

Of course, she knew. She had taken Lauren's phone as per Quentin's orders to cut off all electronic devices.

But she had to play dumb; she couldn't let Lauren suspect anything.

She had seen the headlines and felt sorry for Lauren.

"Alright, thanks," Lauren said, trusting the maid. She decided to look for her phone later.

Unfortunately, she searched all day without finding it.

The next day, the headlines were still about Quentin and Odette.

This time, there were no photos, just a story about their affairs.

The article painted Lauren as a lowly mistress and Odette as the rightful wife.

It detailed how Lauren seduced Quentin and used their child to climb the social ladder.

It even included fabricated stories of Lauren plotting to kidnap Odette and hiring someone to assault her.

Quentin's anger reached a new level. He was furious but also grudgingly impressed by Gregory's audacity to twist the truth so blatantly.

Gregory's fabricated news dominated the headlines for days, resulting in Quentin being hounded by reporters at the gates of Robinson Conglomerate.

This put him in a foul mood for several days.

Lauren wasn't faring much better. She didn't know what was going on lately. Maybe she was overthinking, or perhaps she was too sensitive.

She felt that the maids serving her had been looking at her strangely these past few days.

Some with suspicion, some with anger, and some even with contempt.

Except for the freckled maid.

"Miss Walker, breakfast is ready. Could you please come down and eat? If it gets cold, we'll have to make it again," the blonde maid knocked on the door loudly, almost as if she wanted to break it down.

Lauren woke up startled, glancing at the clock on the wall. It was only seven in the morning.

Yesterday, she had woken up at eight, and breakfast hadn't even started. Most of the maids weren't even up yet, so she had planned to sleep in a bit today. She didn't expect breakfast to be ready so early.

Groggy, Lauren quickly washed up and hurried downstairs without even brushing her hair.

"Such a mess!" she heard someone mutter as she sat down. The voice was filled with disdain, clearly unhappy with her.

Lauren looked around, but all the maids were busy with their tasks, not looking at her.

Was she hearing things?

Lauren was puzzled but didn't dwell on it. She picked up her utensils and started eating.

But she hadn't eaten much when the blonde maid who had knocked on her door placed a tray in front of her and said in a very unfriendly tone, "Miss Walker, could you please eat faster? We need to wash the dishes and clean the house. If you eat so slowly, our schedule will be delayed."

'Can't they clean the house first?' Lauren thought but didn't say it out loud.

"It's okay, I can wash the dishes myself," Lauren offered, thinking this would solve the problem.

But she was wrong.

When someone wants to make things difficult for you, no matter how well you do, they won't be satisfied.

"Forget it. You're such a delicate lady. If you break a dish, we'll be the ones punished," the maid's tone made Lauren very uncomfortable.

It reminded her of being an unwelcome guest.

Lauren frowned slightly. She didn't know what she had done to upset them. It felt like overnight, her status had changed from a princess to a prisoner.

Lauren tried to reassure herself that she was overthinking it. The maids were just worried about being punished, not targeting her intentionally.

But that breakfast was hard to swallow.

Not because it tasted bad, but because she felt like a prisoner eating it.
