Chapter 155 Official Appearance
To hear Ethan say that delighted Lauren. She and the child wouldn't have to burden Ethan, and she could live with more dignity in front of Quentin if she could actually land a job.
"Ethan, tell me quickly, what kind of job do you think I can do?" Lauren asked.
Ethan smiled slightly. He began to explain, "It's an assistant to a home designer. You have your style when it comes to designing houses. If you put your ideas into designs, many people will definitely like them. You know, the White Group needs your skills as they have begun investing in real estate."
He added, "I know you might feel pressured, so I'm giving you an assistant position. You can learn and grow slowly."
Lauren was a bit tempted. She had loved designing and drawing since she was a child, but she never developed this hobby. She didn't expect Ethan to notice it.
"Ethan, I really want to agree, but you need someone who can focus on work. I don't think I can be an assistant right now," Lauren felt her current situation was not suitable for the task. She said with apprehension, Besides, I can doodle casually, but if you want me to design houses seriously, I'm afraid I won't do well."
Ethan patted Lauren on the shoulder and said, "Lauren, don't be discouraged. I already said you would start as an assistant. Your job is very simple: stay at home and draw your designs, and then I'll hand them over to others for feedback and modifications. This way, you can take care of the baby at home and have your career. It's a rare opportunity."
Yes, this opportunity was indeed rare. Hearing Ethan's explanation, Lauren knew he must have put a lot of thought into it. A job with a salary and the ability to work from home took a lot of effort to find.
"Ethan, thank you for your kindness. I agree. I'll give it a try. I'll do my best not to let you down," Lauren said.
Lauren had no way out now. Since she had already cut ties with Quentin, she had to work hard for her future. For Matthew, she had to be brave.
Ethan nodded with satisfaction. He knew Lauren would agree.
"From now on, we will have a superior-subordinate relationship. I will be your boss," Ethan said proudly, looking at Lauren.
Lauren was puzzled. "What do you mean? Do I have to work with you?" she inquired.
"Of course," Ethan replied.
She couldn't believe it. "But aren't you going to pursue a PhD? How can you stay in City A?" she questioned, doubtfully.
Ethan scratched his head awkwardly. In fact, he went to Metropolis not to study but to avoid facing Lauren's marriage.
Now that Lauren was staying in the same house with him, Ethan had to seize this chance. He had thus proactively gone home a few days ago, made amends to his parents, and effortlessly reclaimed his position as the youthful leader of the White Group.
Ethan had always kept the conflict with his parents a secret from Lauren , so he couldn't let her know now.
"I forgot to tell you, my exam scores weren't good, so the professor rejected me. I can't pursue a PhD," Ethan said with a cheeky smile.
Lauren found it strange. Ethan's attitude was too suspicious. Not only was he not regretful, but he also seemed inexplicably relieved and happy. Not being able to pursue a PhD should be a blow to him, so why didn't he care?
"Ethan, your grades have always been excellent. Why?" Lauren asked.
"Alright, Lauren, let's not talk about it. It's just so happened that I'm not leaving anymore, so I can stay and accompany you and Matthew. Aren't you happy?" Ethan pretended to be sad and said deliberately.
As expected, Lauren was swayed by Ethan's words, and replied, "No, I'm just feeling sorry for you."
"Don't worry, if there's another chance in the future, I'll work hard again. For now, I plan to stay here and manage this investment company well," Ethan said.
Lauren felt strange. Feeling everything was too coincidental.
After Jessica had been lying in bed for several days, someone who shouldn't have come over had arrived at the house that day.
After a few knocks on the door, gentle and graceful Sophia walked in with a smile.
When Jessica glanced at her, her anger flared. She glared at Quentin, blaming him for bringing Sophia over.
Quentin walked in front, and Sophia followed with many nutritional supplements.
"Grandma, how are you? It's been a long time since I've seen you. I heard from Quentin that you weren't feeling well, so I came to see you," Sophia said with a sweet smile as if returning to the good old days.
"No need to trouble yourself. Besides, I'm not familiar with you, and I'm not your grandma. Quentin, are you trying to anger me to death?" Jessica, who was always kind to others, didn't give Sophia any face this time as she spoke.
Quentin was afraid that Jessica would get angry and worsen her health, so he signaled Sophia to leave. But Sophia didn't follow Quentin's hint.
Sophia felt a bit awkward and more heartbroken. She tried to reason, "Grandma, I know you're very disappointed in me, but..."
"Enough, I have nothing to talk about with you. Also, the Robinson family doesn't welcome you. If you have nothing else to say, please leave," Jessica said, closing her eyes to avoid looking at them.
"I'm sorry," Sophia said softly, tears streaming down her face.
Jessica still didn't look at her. She sternly said, "If you really feel sorry, then don't appear in front of Quentin again."
She refused to forgive Sophia. She might have overlooked what Sophia did before, but this time, Sophia's appearance had completely disrupted Quentin's once peaceful life.
Innocent Lauren did nothing wrong, yet she bore all the pain. Jessica felt heartache for her.
What pained Jessica more was that Sophia had destroyed Quentin's family.
"Grandma, please rest well. I'll come back to explain when you're feeling better," Sophia said sadly, sighing as she turned to leave.
"Quentin, stay right there," Jessica called out to Quentin.
Quentin had intended to see Sophia off, but when Jessica called him, he stopped.
Sophia smiled at Quentin as if understanding him and then left alone.
"Grandma, Sophia came over because she was worried about you. You shouldn't have..." Quentin explained.
"Do you still consider me as your grandma? Are you now helping her to scold me? I think a dog has eaten your conscience! Lauren has already left. Are you planning to bring Sophia over to be your wife? Fine, if that's your choice, I won't stand in your way. I won't meddle in your affairs anymore!" Jessica said loudly, extremely angry.
She couldn't believe Quentin was so thoughtless, doing the most inappropriate thing at this time.
"Grandma, you really misunderstood me. Do we have to live in the hatred of the past? Sophia already knows she is wrong. Why can't we give her a chance?" Quentin said painfully, feeling very torn in the middle.
Jessica looked at Quentin in despair. Things had come to this point, and Quentin still didn't realize how serious his mistake was. There was no way of saving him anymore.
