Chapter 428 Odette's Schemes

Odette's expression was flushed with anger as she glared at Lauren. Despite her fury, she had to keep up appearances in front of so many people.

She forced herself to look pitiful and said softly, "Stop talking nonsense, Quentin would never leave me."

Her voice was weak but firm, her eyes fixed on Lauren as if she were showing off.

But just as Odette finished speaking, a servant rushed in from outside and said, "Ms. Foster, Mr. Robinson asked me to tell you that he's tied up with something and wants you to wait here. Also, there's a small issue with the wedding dress, so it'll be a while before it's delivered."

Odette's expression turned even darker. She had been so smug just moments ago, but now she looked like a fool.

Lauren didn't have time to enjoy Odette's humiliation. She wanted to walk away without looking back, but Odette thought Lauren was gloating and quickly blocked her path.

"Move."

Lauren said impatiently, her mood souring as she looked at Odette's face.

"Tell me, did you do this? Did you have Olive ruin my wedding dress and send Quentin away?"

Odette said arrogantly, acting as if she were someone important.

"Ms. Foster, you give me too much credit. I don't have that kind of power."

Lauren replied dismissively, not even bothering to look at Odette. She gave her a light push, but to her surprise, Odette fell to the ground even though Lauren hadn't used much force.

Lauren rolled her eyes. Odette was the epitome of a drama queen.

Odette's cries attracted everyone's attention, and suddenly Lauren was the center of it all.

"Odette, you'd better not embarrass yourself in front of me. As for you and Quentin, you don't need to report to me. I'm not interested."

Lauren said coldly, her gaze icy. Odette had used this trick before.

"You've gone too far."

Odette growled, her voice tinged with grievance as she curled up in a corner, looking pitifully at Lauren.

What was even more infuriating was that no one dared to speak up.

Lauren understood that she was a prisoner now, and no one would stand up for her.

Lauren snorted coldly, looking down at Odette. "Odette, your persecution complex is getting out of hand."

With that, Lauren walked away without looking back, leaving Odette fuming and digging her nails into her palm.

'Lauren, once Quentin and I are married, you'll pay for this. You won't have a moment of peace,' Odette thought, her eyes filled with malice.

Odette was now considered Quentin's fiancée by everyone, and the servants were eager to please her. They rushed to help Odette, pulling her in different directions until she was dizzy.

"Get away from me."

Odette couldn't keep up the act any longer.

She angrily pushed the servants away and stumbled to her feet, shouting, "Are you all brainless? Can't you see I'm in the corner? You pulled my hair, it hurts!"

Her sharp voice made the servants back off, not daring to breathe, but secretly despising Odette.

After Odette stormed off, the bolder servants began to whisper, "What's she pretending for? It's just a few strands of hair; it's not like it's life-threatening. She thinks she's rich. I heard she's an orphan. If it weren't for the Robinson family, who knows where she'd be working?"

Odette heard the servants gossiping about her as she walked away, her anger boiling inside. She left with a malicious look in her eyes, clearly plotting something.

In the crowded hall, Odette had to maintain her sweet and gentle reputation, so she didn't dare act rashly. But that didn't mean she would let those gossiping servants off the hook.

She hid in a small corridor, and soon enough, she heard the servants comparing Lauren and Odette.

As soon as Odette appeared, the noisy corridor fell silent.

Odette stood in front of the servants, hands on her hips, and slapped the lead servant without a word.

Grabbing the servant's collar, she said angrily, "You better understand who the future boss here is. It seems you haven't had enough work. Are you tired of being here?"

The servant was shocked and immediately apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Foster, I didn't mean to."

Odette was satisfied. Odette suddenly changed her demeanor, holding the servant's hand gently. "It's lucky it's me. If Quentin found out, you wouldn't have a chance to explain. If Quentin heard someone badmouthing me and kicked you out, who would hire you?"

Odette's tone was gentle, but her words were a threat.

"Don't be afraid. I'm in a good mood today and don't want to waste it on small matters. I'm going to take wedding photos with Quentin. I'll pretend this never happened. I have gifts for you all."

Odette knew that giving a little treat could win people's hearts, but it was easy to lose them too. Holding their secrets and giving them luxury items would ensure their loyalty.

'Lauren, from now on, you'll wish you were dead.'

Odette thought, a wicked smile spreading across her face.

Lauren had no idea that danger was creeping up on her. She sat quietly in her room, thinking about her moments with Quentin, her mind in turmoil.

But as she thought about it, Lauren felt like a joke. Yet it was these ups and downs that made her who she was today.

"Matthew, how are you now?"

Lauren murmured, tears streaming down her face.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

A somewhat unfamiliar servant brought in a bowl of porridge.
