Chapter 133 The Storm of Public Opinion
Quentin had not slept a wink all night. Early in the morning, when he saw that the headlines were filled with news about him and Lauren, his expression was terrifyingly grim.
Lauren emerged from her room, having avoided the news because she knew it would only sour her mood—no need to seek out trouble.
"Quentin, good morning. Has Grandma woken up yet? Let's go in and check on her," Lauren said, pretending everything was fine. She didn't want Quentin to worry about her at this moment.
"I just checked on her. She's still asleep. Are you hungry? Noah will be here soon. I'll ask him to bring us breakfast," Quentin replied.
Lauren smiled and said, "It's okay. No need to trouble him. I'll go get breakfast for us."
Quentin gazed deeply at Lauren. He had heard some noises, and his intuition told him that their peaceful days were over.
"Mr. Robinson, Miss Walker, could you please grant us an interview?"
"Miss Walker, how do you plan to explain the harm you've caused Wendy? Could you please answer us?"
Some reporters got the news that they were in this hospital from somewhere and rushed here.
Lauren was caught off guard. Seeing this, Quentin immediately shielded her, exuding a chilling aura as he glared at the crowd.
"Before I lose my temper, you'd better leave," Quentin said coldly. He looked like an enraged lion, ready to tear everyone apart.
The reporters were intimidated by Quentin's demeanor and hesitated to continue their questioning.
Just then, Noah arrived in time to defuse the situation. "Alright, everyone, listen to me. If you have any questions, ask me. Miss Walker is pregnant. Are you really going to harass a pregnant woman?"
The reporters took the opportunity and decided not to push Lauren further. Quentin escorted Lauren back into the room.
"Go inside and lock the door. I'll come find you shortly," Quentin instructed.
Lauren grasped Quentin's hand, gazing at him intently but saying nothing.
Quentin seemed to understand all that Lauren wanted to convey. He squeezed her hand and said, "Wait for me."
Those simple words brought immense comfort to Lauren. She obediently locked the door and listened as the noise outside gradually faded away.
Quentin and Noah stood amidst the crowd of reporters, coldly observing the bustling scene, ignoring the barrage of questions and didn't give a damn about them.
"Mr. Robinson, now that you've left the inpatient ward, could you cooperate with our interview? Did your wife really frame Wendy?"
"Mr. Robinson, we have many questions for you."
Without responding, Quentin remained expressionless, coldly surveying the scene.
"Mr. Robinson, please say something! Have you and your wife really divorced? Please tell everyone the truth. Is your silence an admission?" The reporters continued to press.
Noah nudged Quentin, knowing that continued silence would only fuel more rumors and cause greater harm to Lauren.
Quentin understood this. After some thought, he said, "Lauren and I have always been married—before, now, and in the future. She is now carrying my child. I trust the public can discern the truth and see how happy our life is. The divorce rumors are baseless. As for Wendy, the truth will come out after the court's judgment. There's no need to waste time on me. And I warn you all, because of your disturbance last night, my grandmother fell. I won't forget this."
After Quentin finished speaking, the reporters present shivered. They hadn't expected to offend Quentin inadvertently and feared they would face consequences in the future.
"Mr. Robinson, we apologize for last night. We hope you won't hold it against us. We were doing our jobs," one reporter pleaded, aware of Quentin's methods and admiring his commanding presence despite the difficult situation.
Quentin's sharp gaze fell on the reporter. Without speaking, he turned to leave.
The reporters were unwilling to let Quentin go so easily.
"Mr. Robinson, could you please say a few more words?"
"Mr. Robinson, don't leave. Can you share more details about Wendy's situation?"
Without looking back, Quentin's powerful presence caused the reporters to step aside, none daring to block his path.
However, Noah was less fortunate. He was surrounded by reporters, unable to move, and could only watch as Quentin walked away. The mess was left for him to clean up.
Throughout the night, Quentin had used his connections to inquire about Wendy's situation but was met with closed doors. The court refused to disclose any details about Wendy's trial at this time, leaving Quentin with no options.
The situation turned into a deadlock, and Anthony succeeded in using this matter to strike at Quentin and the Robinson Conglomerate. From morning until now, the Robinson Conglomerate's stock had plummeted with no signs of recovery.
Despite lacking evidence, public opinion favored Wendy due to her previous popularity and innocent image.
The public's opinion of Lauren was very poor, and Wendy's fans, unaware of the full story, threatened to seek justice for Wendy. Online, Lauren became the target of widespread criticism, while Quentin was labeled a philanderer. No one dared to confront him directly, so Lauren became the scapegoat.
Anthony seized the opportunity, bribing reporters to spread false news detrimental to the Robinson Conglomerate, including tax evasion and bribery. He spared no effort in tarnishing the company's reputation.
The situation escalated. Despite Quentin's reluctance to admit it, things were indeed dire. Multiple board meetings were held, urging Quentin to resolve the issue quickly. Influenced by online rumors, the tax authorities came to audit the Robinson Conglomerate, plunging Quentin's life into chaos.
Quentin arranged for Lauren to stay at the hospital long-term, not informing her of the situation outside, and asked her to stay with Grandma Robinson.
Lauren wanted to stay with Grandma Robinson, but seeing Quentin's constant frown and the countless worries he seemed unable to dispel, she felt heartbroken and helpless.
"Quentin, are you alright?" Lauren asked as she walked out of Grandma Robinson's room and into the adjacent room to check on Quentin.
Quentin hadn't slept for two days and nights. He was exhausted and took this moment to rest.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you for taking care of Grandma," Quentin said, opening his eyes to look at Lauren. Seeing her serene and beautiful face brought him immense comfort.
