Chapter 77 The Honest Man

‘Ethan, when did you become so cunning? One should be straightforward in life. Even if you don't tell Lauren, she has already forgiven Quentin. What are you tangled up about?’ Ethan slapped his head, hoping to stop the dark thoughts in his mind.

‘But, one must look out for oneself. I truly love Lauren. If Quentin is sincere, even if I don't tell Lauren about these things, he should be able to handle it himself. So, Quentin, what will you do? I'll sit back and watch the show.’ Ethan firmly held onto his thoughts and decided to save all the evidence he had collected, waiting for the right moment to bring it out.

Wendy was still drinking there, but Ethan sobered up a bit. He shouldn't be drunk now. He still had some hope left.

Ethan figured it out, immediately paid the bill, and left the bar. He needed to hurry back, change his clothes, to find Lauren. Because based on his understanding of Lauren, she would never reconcile with Quentin until she had resolved things with Wendy.

Lauren completed all the prenatal check-ups alone, tiredly returning to her rented house. Unexpectedly, Ethan was standing at the door waiting for her.

"Ethan, what are you doing here? Are you done with work at the company?" Lauren asked in surprise.

Ethan smiled lightly, saying, "Yes, although I know you've reconciled with Quentin, I still wanted to come and see. Are you planning to move back in?"

Lauren awkwardly replied, "No, I'm fine living here. I don't want to move back."

Lauren took out her keys and opened the door. Ethan walked in directly, saying, "Since you've forgiven Quentin, moving back in is just a matter of time. How can a married couple live separately?"

Lauren looked troubled, "Ethan, please don't mock me. I don't even know if I've truly forgiven Quentin yet. I'm just giving him a chance now. He claims Wendy's pregnancy is fake, but words alone are not enough. I need a reasonable explanation from him. How could a pregnancy be faked? I saw her coming out of the obstetrics and gynecology department with my own eyes..."

The more Lauren thought about it, the more puzzled she became. She couldn't understand. They say seeing is believing. She believed everything she saw. But today, seeing Quentin and succumbing to his gentle advances made her forgive him.

Seeing Lauren in distress, Ethan felt uncomfortable. He really wanted to show her the evidence that Wendy's pregnancy was fake, but he held back.

If Quentin couldn't resolve this matter, it indicated his relationship with Wendy was not simple. In that case, Lauren wouldn't be happy in the future. It was better to face the truth sooner rather than later, for Lauren's own good.

"You're right. Quentin claims Wendy isn't pregnant. If he can't provide evidence, it's hard to determine who's telling the truth. So, Lauren, you must be firm on this point. Men are often spoiled. Your indifference to his scandals in the past has led to your current difficulties." Ethan analyzed the situation for Lauren.

"I'm reflecting on that too. It's indeed my fault that leads to the current situation. But, Ethan, thank you for reminding me. I won't be so foolish in the future. If Quentin can't explain Wendy's situation clearly to me, I won't return to The Robinson Family." Lauren said firmly.

Ethan felt a bit disdainful of himself. He had deliberately confused the situation to win Lauren over. ‘Quentin, don't blame me, because I love Lauren more than you do.’

The next day, before Lauren even got up, there was a knock on the door. Thinking it was Ethan, she put on her slippers and sleepily went to open it.

"So early, I'm not fully awake yet." Lauren leaned against the door, eyes closed.

"You're getting lazier. Living alone makes you this willful?" Quentin looked at Lauren with disdain as he saw her disheveled hair.

It was only when Lauren heard his deep voice that she realized it wasn't Ethan.

"How did you find this place?" Lauren widened her eyes, looking at the man in a suit standing in stark contrast to her lazy pajamas.

Quentin smiled lightly as he squeezed past Lauren into the room. "I know everything I want to know. Any problem with that?"

Lauren rolled her eyes at him, "Yes, you're the all-knowing CEO."

It was then that Lauren noticed Quentin holding a thermos. Quentin skillfully made his way to the table, opened the thermos, and started taking out the food inside.

"Come and eat." Quentin said without looking up. It was as if they had been an old married couple living together for a long time.

"Alright." Lauren replied, closing the door and walking over. "Are you here so early just to bring me food?" Lauren wondered.

"Not entirely. Mainly, I wanted someone to eat with me." Quentin said coldly, but his expression revealed that he was intentionally finding an excuse to see Lauren.

Lauren, however, was thinking to herself. ‘Over the past two years, they had rarely met. However, he had never asked for company during meals.’

Lauren couldn't voice these thoughts, but Quentin had already sensed her concerns from her attitude.

"If you don't want to eat, I won't force you. I never force anyone to do anything." Quentin's words made Lauren unable to hide her feelings anymore. ‘What? He never forces anyone? With his domineering nature, who would believe that?’

"I'll eat. Since Mr. Robinson kindly brought it over, I have no reason to refuse." Lauren said, trying to maintain her composure.

Eating was the most important thing. Lauren looked at the porridge on the table, guessing that it must have been prepared by the chef at The Robinson Family's mansion for Quentin. Quentin's thoughts were truly unpredictable. He could be very kind at times, while at other times, she felt like she might die at his hands any second.

Lauren washed her hands, sat quietly on the chair, and ate the food. While Quentin only took a few symbolic bites and kept watching Lauren.

Feeling uncomfortable being stared at while eating, Lauren thought it was impolite to stare at someone while they were eating. She felt a bit shy. She didn't have full confidence in ensuring her eating manners were impeccable. Although she and Quentin were married, she still couldn't help but want to present her best self to him.

Lauren choked while eating, finally managing to get it out.

Quentin frowned, quickly grabbed a tissue and handed it to Lauren.

"You're an adult. Yet you can't even take care of yourself. How will you take care of a child like this?" Quentin was concerned about Lauren, but his words hurt her pride. However, he was unaware of it.
