Chapter 114 The Hero Saves the Beauty

Ethan once again arrived at Lauren's home. When he saw her appearance, he was taken aback.
"Lauren, why do you look so pale and unwell? Are you feeling sick? Let me take you to the hospital," Ethan said.
Lauren gave a bitter smile. "I don't want to go to the hospital. Lately, I've been there almost every day. I've practically become a regular."
Ethan patted Lauren's head. "You're not alone now. You have to think more about the baby. If you're not feeling well, the baby will suffer along with you. So, don't be stubborn. Let's go to the hospital."
"Ethan, thank you for always caring about me and the baby," Lauren said emotionally.
Lauren's heart weighed heavy with sadness, her nights fraught with restless tossing and turning. One source of her sleepless nights was Quentin; the other, the unborn child nestled within her belly, seemed to stir just as restlessly, keeping her awake.
Ethan, sensing her distress, spoke gently, "You don't have to explain. We're friends. And if it's alright with you, I'd be honored to be the baby's godfather once they arrive." His shy smile masked a deep affection for the little life growing inside Lauren.
They say love for a person extends to their belongings, and indeed, Ethan had grown to cherish the baby because of his love for Lauren.
"Of course, that would be wonderful. He would be very lucky to have you as his godfather," Lauren said absentmindedly, thinking that perhaps this could make up for the child's lack of a father's love in the future.
Although Ethan smiled happily, Ethan could sense Lauren's sadness. "So, what's really going on?"
Knowing she couldn't hide it from Ethan, Lauren hesitated for a moment before finally speaking up. "Quentin came to see me. He wants to reconcile," Lauren said.
Ethan's expression turned stiffened; he had always known that the Robinson family wanted Lauren and Quentin to reconcile.
Now that Lauren has brought it up, is it because she also has the same idea?' Ethan thought.
"Well, what do you plan to do?" Ethan remained calm and willing to respect Lauren's decision.
"Lauren cradled her belly tenderly, tears tracing silent paths down her cheeks. ""I can't deny that I love him, and the baby needs him too,"" she murmured softly. ""But I'm terrified that returning means slipping back into the same cycle—living in constant fear, anxiously waiting for Quentin every day, dreading the uncertainty of whether he'll come home.""
"
Ethan fell silent, unsure of what to say. Lauren had rejected his love because she still had Quentin in her heart. He had given her time to forget Quentin, but could she really forget him?
"Lauren, everyone has the right to pursue their happiness. Don't compromise or endure for the sake of the child. Otherwise, when the child grows up, he will feel guilty for your unhappiness," Ethan persuaded.
"My mind is a mess now. I don't want to see anyone from the Robinson family for now. Ethan, can you help me find a new place to live? I need to move out," Lauren said with a helpless sigh.
"Alright, I suggested that you could stay at my villa before. What do you think?" Ethan inquired cautiously.
"Okay, but once I'm there, I'll just be a burden to you with everything," Lauren said with a bitter smile. She didn't like to trouble others, but now she found herself constantly relying on Ethan.
Ethan smiled happily. "It's no trouble at all. I like this kind of trouble."
Lauren, afraid of seeing Quentin again, wanted to move her things to Ethan's villa as soon as possible.
Although Ethan repeatedly emphasized that he would handle the move, Lauren had nothing else to do, so she decided to take some smaller items to Ethan's villa herself.
As Lauren walked out of the community, she suddenly felt a cold gaze on her. She didn't think much of it, assuming it was Quentin again. She turned around with a cold expression.
"Please, can you stop following me?" Lauren said as she turned around, only to see Wendy's fierce face.
"Lauren, long time no see!" Wendy said angrily.
Lauren was startled, not expecting the person in front of her to be the long-missing Wendy.
"Wendy, what are you doing here?" Lauren asked in surprise.
Wendy laughed; it was an exaggerated laugh. "What am I doing here? I'm here to send you to the abyss!"
With that, Wendy charged at Lauren with a vicious look.
In a panic, Lauren saw something strange in Wendy's hand, and her strong survival instinct made her run towards the community gate without thinking.
"Help!" Lauren cried out as she ran, but she was protecting her belly with one hand, making it hard for her to run fast.
"Lauren, it's all your fault that I'm like this now! You should die!" Wendy cursed viciously.
Seeing Wendy getting closer and closer, she uncapped the bottle and threw its contents at Lauren.
Lauren didn't know what it was but she instinctively tried to dodge it. However, her clumsy body moved slowly, and the liquid was about to hit her.
At that moment, a large figure rushed over, enveloping Lauren in a protective embrace.
Lauren looked up and saw that it was Quentin.
Quentin used his body to shield Lauren. She was well protected and unharmed by Wendy's attack, but Quentin's arm was splashed with some of the liquid.
In an instant, Quentin's clothes began to smoke, and his arm felt like it was on fire.
"Wendy, you're asking to die!" Quentin snapped from the pain, glaring fiercely at Wendy.
Wendy was stunned; she had not expected Quentin to appear at that moment,  let alone accidentally injuring Quentin instead of Lauren.
"I didn't mean to hurt you. I just wanted to ruin this wench's face!" Wendy shouted in defense, retreating as she spoke. She couldn't bear the consequences and had to escape!
But there wasn't much chance for Wendy to escape as the security guards arrived and quickly subdued Wendy.
"Are you alright? I've already called the police, and they'll be here soon. I'll also call an ambulance for you," the security guard said worriedly, looking at Quentin's injured arm.
Although they didn't know what Wendy had thrown, seeing Quentin's bleeding arm made it clear how powerful the substance was.
Lauren was heartbroken seeing Quentin's wound. "Why did you save me? Does it hurt? Are you okay?"
Lauren's eyes blurred with tears. Only now did she realize that Quentin's place in her heart had never changed. He had always been the one she loved most.
"Why are you crying?" Quentin said, his voice strained. "I saved you, so now you owe me," he added, his lips losing color. The wound throbbed mercilessly; a searing pain akin to thousands of ants gnawing at his flesh.
Lauren could hear Quentin's attempt to comfort her, but she couldn't stop her tears. "Don't move. Just wait a moment. The ambulance will be here soon. You'll be fine."
Quentin wasn't the least worried about his arm wound; he wouldn't even frown if it meant sacrificing it. Protecting his beloved Lauren made this trade-off worthwhile.
"Lauren, don't cry. Now you know that I love you, right?" Quentin said with a smile.
