Chapter 335 A Peaceful Day

It was Monday, and it used to be Quentin's busiest day of the week.

But now, Quentin just rushed in for this so-called board meeting that wrapped up in under an hour. After that, he and Lauren left the company. No point in sticking around.

"What did they talk about in the meeting?" Lauren asked Quentin.

"Not much," Quentin said quietly. "Noah just made it clear he's the boss now and then demoted me to some low-level sales job. That's it."

"What?" Lauren couldn't believe Noah would be so harsh.

Noah must've been sure Quentin wouldn't quit, so he felt bold enough to make such ridiculous demands.

Lauren didn't know whether to curse Noah for being so mean or blame Quentin for agreeing to such a crazy request.

This whole mess started because of her, so she felt guilty and heartbroken for Quentin.

Even though Lauren had a lot on her mind, she chose to keep quiet.

As they walked down the street in silence, they passed a kindergarten. Lauren stopped to watch the kids playing inside.

The kids, under the watchful eyes of their teachers, were having a blast.

Some kids were on the swings, while others were playing hide-and-seek with their friends.

Seeing this, Lauren suddenly remembered her time in Pariz.

When Matthew first started kindergarten, he'd come home crying, asking her who his dad was and why other kids had dads but he didn't.

Lauren felt sad but didn't know how to comfort Matthew.

Watching these kids have such a happy childhood made Lauren feel happy for them but also guilty about Matthew. Her eyes welled up, and tears started to fall.

"What's wrong?" Quentin noticed Lauren's unusual behavior.

"Nothing." Lauren turned away, wiping her tears.

Quentin glanced at the kids in the kindergarten and thought of Matthew, realizing how much Matthew had missed his love all these years.

Thinking about it, Quentin felt guilty and understood why Lauren was so heartbroken seeing this.

"How's Matthew?" Quentin asked.

Lauren knew Quentin was asking about Matthew's time in Pariz, so she replied, "Matthew was very well-behaved and rarely caused trouble."

"How does Ethan treat Matthew?" Quentin pressed. This question seemed to be a sore spot for Quentin.

"He took good care of Matthew and me. I'm really grateful to him. If it weren't for him, we would've struggled to survive in a foreign place. Because of him, I met my current teacher and achieved what I have today," Lauren replied.

She also wanted to thank Quentin. She always worried Quentin would fight for Matthew's custody, so she worked hard to study. But she didn't say it out loud.

"I'm sorry, you've had a rough time," Quentin said, pulling Lauren towards him so she had to look at him.

Lauren was taken aback by Quentin's sudden apology. All the pent-up frustration from the past three years came flooding out. Like a dam breaking, she couldn't hold back and started crying loudly.

"Why?" Lauren kept hitting Quentin's chest, asking over and over.

Inside, she was screaming, 'Why are you apologizing now? Why didn't you come to find me earlier? If you had, we wouldn't be like this, and Matthew could have always had his dad's love.'

Quentin didn't say anything, just let Lauren hit him while he held her tight.

When Lauren opened her eyes again, she found herself back in her bedroom.

She remembered crying herself to sleep in front of Quentin.

"Did he bring me back?" She was about to get out of bed when Matthew pushed open the door and came in.

"Mommy!" Matthew was thrilled to see her awake. He ran to the bed and snuggled into her arms.

Lauren kissed his forehead and asked, "Matthew, who brought me back?"

"Of course, it was Daddy," Matthew said with a cheeky grin. "Daddy carried you up."

'Quentin carried meup?' Thinking about it made Lauren blush.

"Where is he?" She looked around but didn't see Quentin.

Matthew replied, "Daddy left after bringing you back. He said you were tired and told me not to disturb you so you could rest."

Quentin was so thoughtful. Hearing this made Lauren happy.

Matthew blinked his big round eyes and asked, "So, are you and Daddy back together?" Lauren thought to herself, 'Does this count? Probably not.'

They hadn't even talked about it, and asking would make her seem too eager.

Lauren tried to change the subject. "Have you finished your homework? Why are you so concerned about us these days?"

"Because I care about Daddy and Mommy," Matthew said, feeling a bit hurt.

He climbed off the bed and, when he reached the door, turned back to Lauren and said, "Oh, Daddy asked you to make him a meal tomorrow."

"Make a meal?" Lauren was stunned again.

"Yes," Matthew continued with a mischievous smile, "Daddy also said he wants you to join him for the meal. You don't have to worry about me; Grandma will take good care of me."

With that, Matthew hopped out of the room.

Lauren was a bit unsure, so she called Quentin to double-check.

"You know I like bland food, just like you," Quentin told Lauren. "The work meals are awful, I can't stand them, so I need you to bring me lunch."

Lauren knew this well, so she agreed to Quentin's request. She'd bring him lunch every day.

"Make your lunch too, and we'll eat together," Quentin said. It sounded more like a command than a request.

Lauren couldn't say no to Quentin when it came to this.

'He's not being mean; he just doesn't know how to ask for help,' Lauren thought with a smile.
