Chapter 251 Jessica in Critical Condition

Lauren ignored Sophia's insults; she wondered if Jessica was really as unwell as Sophia claimed.

Her heart raced, and her palms were sweaty with anxiety. She looked at Sophia with wide eyes, fearing she would confirm the worst.

Sophia sneered and said, "I really feel sorry for Grandma. If she didn't long to see Matthew, I wouldn't let you anywhere near her. If you don't believe me and truly want Grandma to have regrets, don't rush. You have no conscience and can do anything."

Lauren blocked out Sophia's abuse. She calmed down and realized that Sophia's words had influenced her since she walked in.

As soon as she entered, Sophia informed her that Jessica was about to pass away. Lauren began to wonder, 'Why no one had informed me about Jessica's health. Surely, Quentin would have informed me, especially since Matthew is part of the Robinson family.

'Besides, Sophia and I have never gotten along. Why would she come all the way here to tell me this? Is she trying to humiliate me?'

No matter how many questions she had, Lauren felt that Jessica's situation was more important.

Lauren said, "Say whatever you like. I don't have time for you right now. Jessica loves Matthew and me. It has nothing to do with you. I'm taking Matthew to the Robinson Estate now. Please leave, Miss Hall."

Lauren's tone was cold, but she was anxious inside. With that, she ran upstairs to find Matthew, ignoring Sophia's malicious smile. She had to find out what was really going on with Jessica.

In the taxi, Lauren couldn't wait to call Quentin. However, the call either didn't go through or was hung up immediately. This made Lauren even more suspicious. She thought, 'Is Jessica really unwell? Why can't Quentin answer his phone?'

"Sir, please take us to the central hospital," Lauren said nervously.

Matthew felt Lauren's sweaty grip and looked at her in confusion. He asked, "Mommy, weren't we going to the ancestral home to see Mrs. Jessica Robinson? Why are we going to the hospital now?"

Lauren, impatient, patted Matthew's head and said, "I have a bad feeling. Let's go to the hospital first to verify if Sophia is lying. I really hope she's lying this time."

Matthew asked, "Mommy, do you like it when people lie to you?"

Lauren felt a pang of sadness. She replied, "Yes, it would be great if she were lying to me."

Matthew didn't understand and didn't ask further. He quietly nestled in Lauren's arms, watching the scenery outside the window.

Soon, Lauren and Matthew arrived at the central hospital. Since Sophia Sophia hadn't mentioned Jessica's room number, Lauren went to the nurse's station to ask directly.

She hoped the nurse would tell her there was no patient named Jessica, but the nurse's next words shattered that hope.

"Mrs. Jessica Robinson is in the ICU, room 206, in section B. May I ask who you are? The Robinson Family has assigned bodyguards to prevent anyone from approaching," the nurse said, glancing at the pale Lauren with a child.

Lauren felt her world collapsing. She should have thanked the nurse and hurried towards Jessica's room.

'How could this happen to Jessica? Why did it come to this?'

Lauren burst into tears, dragging Matthew as she ran. She regretted not visiting the Robinson Estate recently. Otherwise, she wouldn't have learned about Jessica's condition from Sophia.

At the entrance to the room, Lauren saw two bodyguards in black suits. She approached them immediately.

"Sir, I'm Lauren. May I visit Jessica?" Lauren asked, wiping her tears.

The bodyguards exchanged glances and said expressionlessly, "No, Mr. Robinson instructed us not to allow anyone named Lauren to visit. Please leave."

Lauren panicked and said, "No, you must be mistaken. I'm Lauren, and this child is Jessica's great-grandson. She would want to see us."

The bodyguards refused, "Mrs. Jessica Robinson is unconscious and can't see anyone. Please leave."

"Please, let me see Jessica," Lauren begged.

However, the bodyguards were under Quentin's employ. Since Quentin had ordered them not to let Lauren in, they wouldn't dare disobey.

Seeing that begging was useless, Lauren wiped her tears and said, "Then please call Quentin and tell him I won't leave until I see Jessica. Ask him to come and see me."

The bodyguards sneered at Lauren's words and said, "Who do you think you are? Do you think you can see Mr. Robinson because you want to? Mr. Robinson is very busy; he doesn't have time for you."

Lauren had only one thought, 'I have to see Jessica. However, why wouldn't Quentin alow me to see Jessica? Had something else happened?'

Lauren was heartbroken. She squatted down to look at Matthew and said to the bodyguards, "Sir, Quentin said I couldn't visit Jessica, and I can accept that. However, this child is Jessica's great-grandson. Surely, can he visit her?"

The bodyguards couldn't decide. Quentin had indeed told them not to let Lauren in, but he hadn't mentioned the child. They had heard rumors about Quentin having a child, so they didn't dare act rashly.

Seeing their hesitation, Lauren knew what to do.

"Matthew, can you go in and check on Mrs. Jessica Robinson for me? Don't be afraid; I'll be right outside," Lauren said.

Matthew nodded and said, "Okay, Mommy. Don't worry."

Just as Matthew was about to enter the room, a voice shouted from behind.

Quentin shouted, "What are you doing!"

Quentin, exuding a cold aura, walked down the hallway. Lauren ran over, eager to ask Quentin her many questions. In her haste, she didn't notice the burning anger in Quentin's eyes.

Lauren asked, "Quentin, what's going on with Gramma? Why is she in the hospital? Why won't you let me see her?"

Lauren asked all her questions in one breath, but Quentin responded with a cold glare and sneer.

"When did the Robinson Family's affairs need to be reported to an outsider like you? A promiscuous, scheming woman like you has no right to enter my grandmother's room!" Quentin growled.

Lauren's face fell and asked, "Quentin, what are you talking about?"
