Chapter 426 The Eve of Danger

"What did she say?"

Quentin's curiosity was piqued, even though he knew Odette never had anything good to say.

"She said she's broke and powerless, so if someone wanted to kidnap someone, they should go for you instead," Odette replied, her face a picture of sorrow, as if every word was gospel truth.

Quentin didn't react, so Odette decided to spice up her lie.

"She even spilled your daily route, told them to ambush you there, and mentioned Matthew's school, saying they could snatch him as long as they let her go."

Quentin almost laughed at that.

Setting aside whether Lauren would betray him, anyone with half a brain knew Lauren would never let someone kidnap Matthew to save herself.

When it came to lying, the foolish Odette was no match for the cunning Gregory.

Quentin stayed silent for a bit, making Odette think he bought her story.

She was feeling smug and was about to comfort Quentin when he finally spoke, his words sending a chill down her spine.

"How do you know what Lauren said to the kidnappers?"

Odette froze, realizing she had slipped up.

She had already spilled everything when Quentin got her drunk that day, but she was unaware of it, and Quentin didn't seem inclined to confront her about it.

The reason was simple.

The time wasn't right.

"I was just passing by and happened to overhear," Odette stammered, clearly not cut out for lying.

"The place where Lauren was kidnapped is in the suburbs. How could you just pass by? If you were driving, you wouldn't have heard anything clearly," Quentin said, effortlessly poking holes in her story.

"Quentin, listen to me, I have my reasons," Odette seemed unwilling to give up.

She thought that if she explained quickly enough, Quentin wouldn't suspect her.

"Are you talking about the reason for kidnapping Lauren or some other reason?" Quentin asked.

"Quentin! It was Gregory who forced me!" Odette said, once again throwing Gregory under the bus.

Unlike Gregory, Odette had no sense of loyalty. In her eyes, as long as she could stay safe and get away clean, it didn't matter who she betrayed.

Quentin raised an eyebrow, ready to enjoy Odette's next performance.

He was curious to see how Odette would shift all the blame onto Gregory.

"Gregory had someone follow me and take photos of me without clothes. He said if I didn't kidnap Lauren, he would post those photos online," Odette cried, as if she had truly gone through such an ordeal.

"Quentin, you have to believe me. How could I kidnap Lauren? I don't have the guts!"

Odette's performance was so vivid that Quentin thought it was a shame she wasn't an actress.

Quentin knew better. This seemingly innocent girl was anything but pure behind the scenes.

However, Quentin didn't plan to expose Odette, not out of pity, but because the time wasn't right.

"Alright," Quentin responded with a single word.

Odette watched Quentin carefully, afraid to miss any detail on his face.

Although Odette had been acting spoiled and comfortable around Quentin these past few days, she knew very well that Quentin was not someone to mess with. He had the power to control others' lives.

Compared to her love for Quentin, her heart was filled more with fear and a desire to use him.

Because of her fear, she wanted to use the terrifying Quentin to make others fear her.

"Quentin, are you mad?"

"No, it's fine. Gregory is indeed a piece of work. I'm sorry you had to go through that," Quentin said.

This response reassured Odette. It seemed Quentin believed her.

"As long as you understand me, I'm willing to endure more," Odette said, her eyes brimming with tears, looking deeply affectionate.

But the flash of relief in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.

More than wanting Quentin to feel sorry for her, she hoped he would let her off the hook.

Quentin had nothing more to say. He simply told her to get some rest and turned to leave.

This time, Odette didn't try to stop him. Even she knew that the most important thing now was to eliminate Quentin's suspicions. Otherwise, it would be hard for her to marry him.

For the next three days, she was completely compliant with Quentin until he showed no signs of suspicion. Only then did she finally relax.

Three days later, Quentin took Odette to Olive's studio again.

The reason was simple: her wedding dress was ready.

"Thanks," Quentin said flatly.

He knew Olive had bumped him up the queue; otherwise, how could a wedding dress be finished in just three days?

"No problem, just invite me to the wedding," Olive said with a yawn, waving her hand.

"Of course," Quentin agreed.

"Why is this dress so tight? It's squeezing my waist!" Odette complained, holding the hem of the wedding dress as she walked out, looking displeased.

"Sorry, since you didn't let me take your measurements last time, I had to use Lauren's measurements," Olive explained honestly.

What was a simple explanation to Olive sounded different to Odette.

What did Olive mean? Was she saying Odette was fatter than Lauren? Or was she implying that everything Odette had was stolen from Lauren?

How infuriating!

Odette glared at Olive, who looked innocently at Quentin, making Odette even angrier.

Now, Odette was trying to seduce Quentin?

How shameless!

"Ms. Grace, flirting with my fiancé right in front of me? You've got some nerve," Odette sneered, her gaze fierce, as if she wanted to tear Olive apart.

Olive found it amusing. She had just glanced at Quentin, and now it was considered flirting?

"Alright, I'm sorry," Olive apologized to avoid making things difficult for Quentin.

Odette snorted, linking her arm with Quentin's and putting on a cute expression, completely different from her earlier fierceness.

"Quentin, let's go take our wedding photos, okay? I can't wait!"

She really couldn't wait to see Lauren's furious yet helpless expression.

"Okay," Quentin agreed, fully aware of Odette's intentions.

But he had his plans. If things got out of hand, he wouldn't mind confronting Odette sooner than planned.
