Chapter 461 Joining the Company
Lauren shot Matthew a defiant look. "Matthew already remembers everything, so what's the point of rehashing it now? When Peter gets back, I'm totally ignoring him. And you too."
After breakfast, Lauren headed to the office with Quentin. She had worked hard to get this opportunity.
Initially, Quentin was completely against her going back to work so soon. His face was full of disapproval. "You should stay home and rest a bit longer. There's no rush to get back to work. The company can manage without you for now."
"No way. I want to earn my own living through my own efforts."
They could negotiate on other issues, but Lauren was firm about this one.
Quentin saw the determination in Lauren's eyes and sighed, a bit helplessly. "You're always so stubborn. Fine, you can go, but you have to promise me you'll only work three hours a day. The rest of the time, you come to my office to rest."
"Only three hours?" Lauren opened her mouth to argue, but Quentin's stern look made her quickly nod. "Three hours it is. You're the boss, after all."
And so, Lauren went to the office with Quentin.
"Hold on, I'll have Felix arrange a new position for you."
Quentin made a call, and Felix was summoned to the office. "Felix, take Lauren and find her a new position. Let her decide what she wants to do."
"Yes, Mr. Robinson." Felix led Lauren out of the office.
"So, Mrs. Robinson, which position are you interested in? I heard you have experience in sales, but you seem to have a talent for home design as well."
Lauren was surprised by how much Felix knew about her. "I didn't expect you to know so much about me, Felix."
"It's not that I went out of my way to investigate. Mr. Quentin Robinson is very attentive to Mrs. Lauren Robinson. Being around him, I picked up some information."
Felix was indeed Quentin's most capable assistant. He subtly shifted the conversation back to Quentin, leaving a good impression of him.
Lauren blushed and quickly changed the subject. "I'll go with home design."
"Very well, Mrs. Robinson. I'll make the arrangements. Please wait in the conference room while I handle the paperwork."
Considering Lauren's status, Felix didn't take her on a tour but instead led her to a private conference room where few people went.
After Felix left, Lauren wandered around the conference room, taking in the design.
Lauren's habit of evaluating spaces kicked in.
The room's black, gray, and white color scheme was simple but gave off a grand feeling, making it less oppressive.
However, some design details were a bit rough around the edges.
As Lauren pondered how to improve the design, the door opened. She thought Felix had returned, but it was a sharp-eyed woman with a hint of arrogance in her expression.
The woman immediately noticed Lauren. Their eyes met, and sparks seemed to fly. "Who are you? Why are you here? Don't you know that Robinson Conglomerate is off-limits to outsiders, especially this conference room?"
Lauren was taken aback by the hostility in the woman's tone and quickly tried to explain. "I'm not an outsider."
"Enough," the woman interrupted impatiently. "I don't care who brought you in. This is not a place for you to wander around. Leave now."
Her condescending attitude made Lauren frown. "Miss, you misunderstand. I'm about to become an employee of Robinson Conglomerate. I'm not an outsider."
Lauren sputtered, fearing another interruption, and then sat down, waiting for Felix.
The woman seemed stunned, as if no one had ever defied her like this. "I don't care who you are. I need this conference room now. Leave."
"Miss, you need to understand something. This is Robinson Conglomerate, not your home. Why should I leave just because you say so?"
Lauren didn't like causing trouble, but she wasn't afraid of it either. She had been polite initially, but the woman's repeated provocations left her no choice.
"Why? I'll show you why."
The woman, looking disdainful, pulled out her phone and made a call. "Hello, I'm in the conference room. There's a woman here claiming to be an employee. Get over here and deal with this."
The person on the other end seemed to be apologizing. The woman grew more smug, glancing at Lauren with increasing impatience. "Enough talking. Just get here."
She hung up without caring about the other person's feelings.
Lauren watched the woman silently, showing no fear.
The woman assumed Lauren was just putting on a brave face.
Soon, a manager rushed in, sweating and clearly anxious not to upset the woman.
Through the manager, Lauren learned the woman's name: Maeve Harrington.
"Ms. Harrington, what's the problem? Who upset you? I'll handle it."
The manager glanced at Lauren, assuming she was the troublemaker.
Maeve's expression grew even more haughty. "Mr. Fields, my assistant should have told you my rules. I don't like sharing a room with others. Don't you know that?"
