Chapter 88 Negotiations
Seeing the serious expression on Quentin's face, Noah felt a twinge of unease.
"Quentin, are you really planning to replace Wendy with Lauren as our company's product spokesperson?" Noah asked.
Quentin relaxed slightly. "Yes, isn't that what you were thinking too?"
The thought of implementing this plan excited Quentin. He wondered what Lauren's reaction would be when she found out. Would she be as thrilled as he was? After all, Lauren had always said she loved Quentin deeply. By doing this, he would be acknowledging her publicly, giving her the recognition she deserved. It should be exactly what she wanted.
"Quentin, don't get distracted. I haven't finished speaking yet!" Noah interrupted Quentin's thoughts, bringing him back to reality.
"Go on," Quentin said.
"Are you sure you're not making this decision impulsively? Regardless of whether Lauren is willing to be the spokesperson, even if she agrees, doing this will undoubtedly push her into the spotlight. Do you think someone like Lauren can handle all the public scrutiny and gossip?" Noah voiced his concerns, admitting he had a selfish desire to see Lauren as the spokesperson. But he also knew Lauren to be a sincere, kind, and positive girl. He didn't want to hurt her, especially considering she was pregnant.
Noah's words struck a chord with Quentin. He realized he had been impulsive and hadn't considered the consequences. Noah's reminder made him see there were indeed some issues to address. However, Quentin's stronger impulse was to let the whole world know Lauren was his wife and to keep people like Ethan away from her.
"You make a good point, but the Lauren I know is a strong woman. Ultimately, the decision should be hers to make," Quentin said. He then took out his phone and called Lauren, telling her he wanted to pick her up right away.
Lauren was puzzled. It wasn't even evening yet, so why did he suddenly want to see her? Her heart started to beat faster, and her intuition told her that Quentin's sudden visit couldn't be for a good reason.
Soon, Lauren's phone rang. She didn't answer it and went downstairs instead. When she saw Quentin's black Ferrari, she got in without hesitation.
It was only after getting in the car that Lauren realized Noah was also there. Feeling a bit awkward, Lauren forced a polite smile. "Mr. Martin, you're here too!"
Seeing Lauren's discomfort, Noah smiled smugly. "Lauren, there's no need to be so formal. Actually, I knew your identity a long time ago. I found out the first time I drove you home."
Lauren sat stiffly in the back seat, recalling how Noah had deliberately approached her, causing some rumors in the company. She thought she had hidden it well, but it turned out she had already been exposed.
"Is that so," Lauren said, not knowing what else to say, making the atmosphere even more awkward.
Quentin stepped on the gas, and the car sped off. Lauren didn't know where they were going, but seeing Quentin's serious expression, she knew something significant was happening today.
They arrived at a tea house together. It was Lauren's first time in such a place, known for its fine tea. Normally impatient, she didn't particularly like such quiet places. But now it was different. Being pregnant, visiting such places was good for her temperament and beneficial for the baby in her belly.
Lauren and the group entered a private room and sat down. After the waiter had poured their tea, Quentin finally revealed his purpose.
"Lauren, it's time for your identity to be made public," Quentin began.
Lauren was startled by Quentin's sudden decision. "What do you mean?"
Noah hadn't expected Quentin to be so direct. Knowing Quentin's personality wasn't particularly appealing to women, he decided to help explain further.
"It's like this. Quentin discussed with me that since you're now pregnant, not many people know that you are Mrs. Robinson. So, we planned an opportunity to introduce you to all of Quentin's friends and business partners. What do you think?" Noah explained.
Hearing that, Lauren felt touched. She felt that her genuine feelings had finally been reciprocated, warming Quentin's heart in return.
"Alright," Lauren replied calmly, trying to steady her excited emotions.
Lauren's calmness surprised Quentin. He had imagined that Lauren would be as excited as he was, but her simple response left him feeling a bit deflated.
"Are you dissatisfied with something?" Quentin's sharp voice questioned Lauren.
"No, I just don't know what to do," Lauren replied.
This was the truth. Having always been treated as invisible, Lauren found it hard to adjust to suddenly becoming Mrs. Robinson with a recognized status.
Noah gave Quentin a look, indicating that Lauren's reaction was as expected.
"Lauren, this is a rare opportunity. You must seize it!" Noah encouraged Lauren from the side.
Lauren was even more puzzled. "So, what is this great opportunity?"
Noah smiled, glanced at Quentin, and then said to Lauren, "The Robinson Conglomerate is holding a selection event for a new product spokesperson. Quentin and I think, why not take this opportunity to make you the spokesperson and announce to the world that you are Mrs. Robinson? How about it? Isn't it romantic? Doesn't Quentin completely move you?"
Lauren froze. Her mind was in turmoil, struggling to accept the situation.
"But, as far as I know, the current spokesperson for the Robinson Conglomerate's products is Wendy," Lauren said.
Having worked at the Robinson Conglomerate, Lauren was naturally aware of the internal news.
As the truth unraveled, Noah was struggling to keep up the pretense, but he still tried to remain calm.
"The products you know about are outdated. These are new, the latest ones. But that's not the point. The point is that through this spokesperson event, your identity will be known to everyone. Isn't that good news for you?" Noah said smugly.
However, Lauren didn't feel any joy. She didn't know why, but although she had longed for this day for two years, when it finally arrived, she felt apprehensive. Perhaps it was because the issue with Wendy was still a thorn in her heart, or maybe it was because this way of announcing her identity was too high-profile. Lauren didn't like being in the spotlight, hoping for a simple and stable life.
Now Quentin had accepted her but wanted to announce it in such a high-profile manner. It was something Lauren found hard to take.
