Chapter 150 The Shattering of Hope

Ever since Lauren had given birth, Jessica had grown even more fond of her, favoring Lauren even more than Quentin.

"Then what name do you have in mind? Let me give you some advice," Jessica said with a smile.

Lauren blushed, for she had no particular idea.

"Grandma, he is your great-grandson. Why don't you name him?" Lauren asked.

Jessica had long awaited this child's arrival. Now that he was here, it would be meaningful for her to name him.

Jessica refused repeatedly. "No, the child's name should be chosen by you. I wouldn't do a good job."

"Grandma, don't refuse. Just consider it as helping us out. We might not do any better than you in this brainy task," Lauren said.

Lauren smiled at the baby, asking, "Would you like your great-grandmother to name you?"

Jessica put away her smile and seriously considered Lauren's words.

Lauren placed the baby in Jessica's arms. Suddenly, the baby smiled, making them pleased.

"Grandma, look, he's smiling. It means he also wants you to name him. Would you please think about it?" Lauren asked.

Jessica was also delighted. She happily remarked, "This child is indeed clever. I've always felt that this child is a blessing from heaven. How about we name him Matthew? I hope you and Quentin will always be in love and that our Matthew will grow up healthy and happy."

Lauren nodded in agreement. She warmly complimented, "Grandma, I agree with you. I also think Matthew is the best gift heaven has given us. Matthew, from now on, you will be called Matthew. Thank your great-grandmother."

Jessica hadn't expected Lauren to agree so readily. She was overjoyed. She understood Lauren's intentions and only hoped Quentin would treat Lauren well and not hurt her kind heart again.

"Lauren, thank you," Jessica said, moved to tears. Lauren had fulfilled another of her wishes.

Lauren gently wiped away Jessica's tears. She gently said, "Grandma, I should thank you. Everything I have now is because of your help. Rather than saying it's a gift from heaven, it's more accurate to say it's a gift from you."

As she spoke, tears began to fall from her eyes as well.

Though Lauren and Jessica were of vastly different ages, their hearts were so close.

Jessica touched Lauren's face and said, "Silly child, we are family. Don't talk about gratitude. With my health getting worse, I might leave any day now."

Upon hearing this, Lauren's face changed. She grabbed Jessica's hand and said anxiously, "Grandma, don't think like that. You are still in good health. It would help if you watched Matthew grow up. I won't allow you to say such ominous things."

But Jessica just shook her head gently in disagreement. She calmly said, "I've come to terms with it."

Jessica patiently continued, Everyone faces death. Don't worry so much. I've thought about these things, and there's no escaping them. I have one last wish, Lauren. Don't think I'm selfish, but I really hope you and Quentin can remarry and live happily together. If that happens, I can leave this world without any regrets."

Lauren gripped Jessica's hand tightly. She didn't want to think about death but wanted to hold Jessica's hand forever.

In Jessica's hopeful eyes, Lauren finally gave her a definite answer.

"Grandma, rest assured. Quentin and I have already agreed that once I give birth, we will go through the formalities to remarry. So, don't worry. Just focus on watching Matthew grow up healthy," Lauren said.

Jessica's face lit up with joy. She said enthusiastically, "That's wonderful news. When Quentin returns, you should go ahead with it.  Make sure he gives you a grand wedding to make up for the one you missed three years ago."

Jessica was indeed very considerate. Although Lauren and Quentin had a wedding three years ago, it was a small affair known to only to a few people.

Every girl, including Lauren, dreamed of a fun and enchanting wedding. She often thought, 'How wonderful it would be to hold Quentin's hand and make those sacred vows in front of everyone.'

Lauren was very moved by Jessica's suggestion. This time, she would make this request to Quentin, provided he could come back soon.

Ethan had promised Lauren he would help her find Quentin. He mobilized all the Robinson family connections to investigate, but there was still no news.

One evening, after meeting with a business partner, Ethan was about to leave when he saw a familiar figure—Quentin.

But Quentin was accompanied by Sophia. Ethan recognized her, too. In fact, everyone in City A knew who she was.

It was none other than Sophia. Years ago, Sophia had gained significant notoriety because of Quentin. Now, she had returned and taken over the management of Hall Corporation, making headlines once again. How could Ethan not recognize her?

Quentin and Sophia walked closely together, showing no hesitation as they strolled shoulder to shoulder. They were deep in conversation and didn't notice Ethan at all.

Ethan was furious. He remembered Lauren lying alone in the operating room, risking her life to give birth to Quentin's child. Not only was Quentin not by her side, but he was also involved with Sophia!

Without thinking, Ethan pulled out his phone and started taking pictures of Quentin and Sophia as they entered the hotel.

Ethan wanted Lauren to know immediately how deceitful Quentin was. He called her without a second thought.

Lauren was about to go to bed when she received Ethan's call.

"What's wrong, Ethan? Why are you still up so late?" she asked.

"Lauren, I'm coming to see you right now. Don't sleep yet. I have something important to tell you," Ethan said seriously.

Lauren's intuition told her that what Ethan had to say must be related to Quentin. 'But why wouldn't he just say it directly?' she thought.

"Ethan, do you have news about Quentin? Is he okay? Has something happened to him? Where is he?" Lauren asked, both excited and worried. She wished she could fly to Ethan and get the answers immediately.

Ethan felt a pang of sorrow. Lauren's sincere devotion was utterly undeserved!

"Lauren, let's talk in person. Wait for me," Ethan said.

Without waiting for Lauren's reply, he hung up the phone.

He knew these photos would be a huge blow to Lauren. He had to tell her, although it would be painful. She had the right to realize the truth.

Lauren quickly dressed and waited for Ethan downstairs in the living room.

She was puzzled. What could Ethan have to say that couldn't be told over the phone? She had a bad feeling that something had happened to Quentin.

With these thoughts, Lauren grew increasingly anxious. Half an hour later, Ethan finally arrived at the villa, his face heavy with concern as he approached Lauren.
