Chapter 148 Quentin's Whereabouts
Ethan understood Lauren's fears. From childhood to adulthood, he knew her best and cared for her the most. He casually ruffled Lauren's hair and said, "Back then, didn't I look just like a hero? Lauren, you're done for. Now that I've saved your life, you owe me big time."
Ethan said this on purpose to ease Lauren's burden and to prevent her from dwelling too much on the matter.
Lauren pushed his hand away disdainfully. she scolded, "Ethan, can you be serious? I am just about to have a proper conversation with you when you do this."
Ethan chuckled, but Lauren couldn't smile. She continued, "Ethan, thank you for being here with me. This room is huge for me and the baby. I really..."
At this point, Lauren's grievances surged, and her tears once again flowed uncontrollably.
Ethan was at a loss, unprepared for Lauren's sudden tears. He looked at her seriously and said, "Lauren, don't cry. You'll harm your health. What is Quentin doing? Is he off gallivanting?"
Ethan was furious. When he left the country heartbroken, Quentin had promised to take good care of Lauren. But now, Lauren was lying alone in a cold hospital room.
Ethan could no longer tolerate it, feeling ridiculous. Despite realizing Quentin was untrustworthy, he gave Lauren to him.
At this moment, Lauren still stood by Quentin. She defended, "Ethan, you've misunderstood. Quentin has run into some trouble and can't get away. He'll come back once he resolves it."
To Ethan, Lauren seemed both foolish and naive. Seeing her pale face, he hesitated. Lauren was at her weakest after giving birth. He shouldn't say anything to upset her now.
"Alright, don't talk about this. Let me take a closer look at the baby," Ethan said as he took off his coat, smiling, approached the crib to look at the adorable baby.
"He is so tiny, so cute, with big eyes and a small mouth. He looks a lot like you. He'll definitely be a handsome guy when he grows up," Ethan praised generously.
Lauren smiled and said, "You can't tell yet since he's still so tiny. Since you like him so much, you should find a woman to have a baby with you."
"There are plenty of women who want to have my baby, but having a child is a big deal. I need to choose the mother carefully," Ethan said egotistically.
Lauren rolled her eyes at him and didn't miss a chance to tease him, "With your carefree attitude, it's a wonder any woman would marry you, let alone let choose you. Ethan, seriously, it's time you considered your future seriously."
"Nagging again. Lauren, now that you're a mother, I realize that you nag just as much as my mother did. Tell you, women, who worry too much age quickly. If you keep this up, you'll have gray hair in no time," he rebutted, playfully. Ethan gently touched the baby's cheek, enjoying the soft sensation.
Under Ethan's teasing, Lauren's mood improved. She knew she needed companionship at this moment because she was too afraid of the emptiness in life, both before and now.
Ethan stayed by Lauren's bedside instead of leaving, waiting until she fell asleep before stepping outside to make a few phone calls.
With Ethan's company, the waiting days were easier. But there was still no news of Quentin.
Every time Lauren subtly asked Jessica about Quentin, Jessica always evaded with various excuses. Lauren felt she was on the verge of breaking down.
On the sixth day of Lauren's hospitalization, Quentin still had not appeared. Ethan came to the hospital to handle Lauren's discharge procedures. Although she was about to go home, Lauren's mood was heavy.
Quentin had been missing for six days without any news. Lauren could no longer contain her feelings. Once she arrived back at the mansion, she went straight to Jessica to discuss Quentin's situation.
Jessica had also been restless these past few days, deeply worried about Quentin's whereabouts.
Jessica worriedly thought, 'What happened to Quentin? Otherwise, why hasn't he returned after six days?'
In front of Lauren, Jessica had to pretend everything was fine, fearing that Lauren's worry would affect her recovery. However, Jessica did not consider her own well-being. She could feel her health failing every day as a result of the stress.
Ethan brought Lauren to the Robinson family mansion. As soon as they entered, Jessica arranged for Lauren to rest in her room. However, Lauren, with a serious expression, walked over to Jessica.
Lauren helplessly pleaded, "Grandma, we should call the police. Quentin has been missing for six days. As long as someone has been missing for more than twenty-four hours, the police can file a case. So, Grandma, please call the police. I can't wait any longer."
Tears welled up in Lauren's eyes as she feared losing Quentin.
Jessica realized Lauren's feelings. She wanted to do the same but had more responsibilities that prevented her from doing so.
Smiling at Lauren, she said, "Lauren, what are you talking about? Quentin is not missing. He contacted me earlier to say he was in a remote place with a weak signal and needed to resolve trouble before he returned. No need to call the police—Quentin isn't missing. The most important thing for you now is to take care of your health. When he returns, you can ask him all your questions. Trust me, I wouldn't lie to you."
"But I feel so uneasy. I'm afraid..." Lauren didn't continue to speak further. She couldn't bear to think about what she would do if something really happened to Quentin.
This situation made Jessica feel even more for Lauren. In ordinary circumstances, the father of the child would either be present or rush back as soon as possible. As for Lauren, not only could she not see Quentin, but even hearing a word from him had become a luxury.
Jessica's heart ached for her. She was both angry and anxious, wondering what exactly was happening with Quentin.
Seeing Lauren so anxious, Ethan couldn't stand it either. He persuaded, "Lauren, listen to Grandma for now. Don't rush to call the police. Let me help you look for him first. Maybe one of my friends has seen him."
Lauren helplessly replied, "Really? Ethan, thank you so much. I know the White family has a lot of influence in City A. As long as you ask, someone will surely respond. But I'm troubling you again. I fear I can never repay your kindness."
Lauren felt deeply guilty. She thought of herself as a burden, always troubling Ethan to handle things for her.
"This is a small matter. Once you're well, don't forget to have Quentin treat me to a meal," Ethan joked.
In truth, he also wanted to know what Quentin was up to. If he found him, he would definitely give Quentin a good beating to vent his anger.
