Chapter 302 Arrogance or Spite

Ulysses shot a fierce look at Kimberly, waiting for Lauren to say something.

Lauren didn't miss a beat. "Quentin said he'd do his best to fix it, but he's not sure if it'll work."

"Great! If Quentin's on it, we're more than halfway there! No need to worry about losing my head!" Ulysses ignored Lauren's last bit, convinced Quentin could handle it. He was so pumped he almost wanted to pop a champagne bottle.

Lauren found his reaction both funny and annoying, but since there was finally a plan, she let it slide.

Ethan, on the other hand, saw things differently. Ulysses' excitement and Lauren's calmness made him feel like he was less important than Quentin. His pride took a hit. He couldn't stand it!

"Lauren, Ulysses, Kimberly, do you all think only Quentin can fix this and not me?" Ethan asked, eyes wide and stubborn.

Ulysses, forgetting his earlier anxiety, didn't seem to care about Ethan's disappointment. He cheerfully replied, "Ethan, you're good, but you don't have the pull that Quentin does!"

Ethan got even angrier but didn't blow up. Instead, he looked blankly at Lauren. "Lauren, do you think I can't handle this?"

Lauren frowned. "Ethan, Quentin's already on it. Why stir up more trouble? For our safety, we should steer clear of the mafia."

Ethan scoffed at her concern, "Don't act all caring. You just don't trust me; you trust Quentin more, right? I'm not any less capable than him. I'll show you he's not the only one who can get things done."

With that, Ethan stormed off. Lauren, worried he might do something reckless, chased after him. "Ethan, don't be impulsive. Can we just talk this out?"

"It's impulsive for me to fix this, but when Quentin does it, he's a hero, right?" Ethan was stubborn and wouldn't listen.

Lauren caught up and grabbed his arm. "That's not what I meant! You really don't need to do this!"

"Whether it's necessary is for me to decide," Ethan snapped, shaking off her hand, making a call, and driving away.

Lauren heard him asking about Brent from the Obsidian Gang. Worried sick, she grabbed a taxi to follow him.

She kept calling Ethan, but he didn't pick up. Then he turned off his phone. Frantic and with no way to reach him, she had no choice but to follow him to the Obsidian Gang's hideout.

The Obsidian Gang had only been around for five years, but they grew fast. They weren't as big as the major gangs in City A, but regular folks knew better than to mess with them.

Ethan, still fuming, jumped out of the car and yelled at the gang members guarding the door, "I want to see Brent!"

The two Mafia guys laughed at his boldness. "You think you can just waltz in and see our boss? If you want to die, do it somewhere else so we don't have to clean up the mess."

Lauren ran up, trying to smooth things over with a nervous smile. "Sorry, guys. My friend here is drunk and talking nonsense. We'll be on our way."

Ethan wasn't having it. "I'm not drunk! Take me to see Brent, or you'll regret it!"

One of the Mafia guys, clearly annoyed, snapped back, "I'll say it one more time, get lost and stop being a pain."

Lauren noticed one of them had a gun tucked in his waistband and gasped. "Ethan, please, stop this. You're going to get yourself killed," she pleaded softly, hoping he'd see reason.

Ethan just laughed. "Are you worried about me, or that I'll mess up Quentin's plans?"

Lauren, fed up, slapped him. "If you want to live in your own little world, fine, but you're coming back with me now! This isn't a game!"

Ethan's mouth twitched, but he was too far gone to back down. He turned to the guards, lying through his teeth. "I was supposed to meet Brent with Quentin. I just got here late. If you don't believe me, ask your boss."

The guards hesitated, recognizing Quentin's name. After a quick discussion, one of them went to check with Brent.

As soon as the guard left, Ethan saw his chance. He knocked out the remaining guard with a punch to the back of the head and barged in.

Lauren had no choice but to follow him.

Surprisingly, no one stopped them. Brent had told his men to expect something today and to let it play out.

They walked into the gang's hall, where Quentin was in the middle of a tense negotiation with Brent. Their sudden appearance made things even more awkward.

Brent, the legendary leader of the Obsidian Gang, turned out to be a tall, skinny guy with dark skin—totally different from the burly, intimidating figure everyone imagined.

Lauren glanced nervously at Quentin and Brent, unsure how to break the tension.

Brent smiled at her. "Mr. Robinson's ex-wife is here too. Quite the party today." He walked towards Lauren, extending a seemingly friendly hand.

Lauren was shocked that Brent knew her. But she quickly realized he must have known through Quentin. Just as she was about to shake Brent's hand, Quentin stepped in front of her.

Seeing Lauren and Ethan, Quentin felt a wave of worry. He had no idea what had gone down between them, but he knew the Obsidian Gang was no place for them to be.
