Chapter 441 Discovering Anomalies
Lauren's eyes blazed with anger as she glared at Quentin, shouting, "I can't wait to get as far away from you as possible. Why the hell would you expect me to come to your wedding?"
Finally, Lauren's long-suppressed emotions burst forth, and she felt an overwhelming sense of relief. She took a deep breath, stepped back, and looked at Quentin with a cold, bitter smile.
"Quentin, what more do you have to flaunt in front of me? Do you want everyone to laugh at me, to point fingers and gossip about me, to make me a joke?"
Lauren's heart felt like it was being torn apart as she demanded, "Who do you think you are? You're nothing!"
Quentin's heart was breaking, but he couldn't show it. Odette was right behind him, and he couldn't let his true feelings slip. The colder he was to Lauren, the safer she would be.
He painfully grabbed Lauren by the neck, pushing her against the wall, and gripped her chin tightly. "You want to leave me? Lauren, until I say otherwise, you stay by my side. You will attend this wedding whether you like it or not. You have no choice."
Odette watched with satisfaction as Quentin treated Lauren so harshly.
Seeing the man she loved showing her no mercy, Lauren felt her heart shatter.
Quentin's every word and action cut into her like a knife.
Tears fell onto Quentin's hand, the hot drops snapping him back to reality.
When he saw Lauren biting her lip, trying to hold back her tears, his heart ached.
Lauren looked at Quentin with sorrow, her emotions shifting from anger to disappointment to despair. Finally, like a puppet on strings, she nodded and choked out, "As you wish."
With that, she broke free from Quentin's grip and ran back to her room as fast as she could.
Theodosia couldn't understand why Quentin wouldn't just explain things to Lauren instead of tormenting her further.
Quentin wanted to tell Lauren, but Matthew's safety was at stake, and he couldn't afford any mistakes.
He signaled Theodosia with his eyes to follow Lauren. The clever Theodosia quickly complied.
Odette, seeing Lauren leave in utter despair, felt a sense of triumph. She wrapped her arms around Quentin and whispered, "Quentin, don't be angry. Tomorrow is our wedding day. I don't want anyone to upset you."
Quentin was still lost in his sorrow, Lauren's devastated expression etched into his mind.
Regret consumed him, and he had no interest in dealing with Odette.
He pried her hands off and kept his distance, feigning concern. "Shouldn't you be getting ready for our wedding?"
Odette, thrilled by what she thought was Quentin's concern, quickly replied, "I'm almost ready. I just want to be with you now."
Quentin glanced at the time. He still had to finalize plans with the police and had no time for Odette.
To avoid suspicion, he pretended to be reluctant. "They say the bride and groom shouldn't see each other the day before the wedding. You should rest; tomorrow will be exhausting."
Odette didn't want to let Quentin go. He had been distant lately, and she was desperate for his attention.
She had dressed seductively today, but Lauren had ruined everything.
Thinking of Lauren's earlier despair, Odette felt somewhat appeased.
"Quentin, it's been so long since we made love," Odette said loudly, ensuring Lauren upstairs could hear.
Lauren sat on her bed, turning her head away.
Theodosia quickly closed the door.
Quentin knew Lauren had heard and didn't want to drag things out with Odette. He awkwardly pretended to be affectionate, placing a hand on her shoulder. "We have plenty of time. Get ready."
He then quickly let go of Odette, avoiding her like she were trash, and left.
Felix approached Odette, serious. "Ms. Foster, I'll take you home."
"Get lost," Odette snapped.
Quentin always had Felix escort her away, making it impossible for her to get close to him.
Felix gestured for her to leave, not allowing any hesitation.
Reluctantly, Odette took a step, glaring at Felix.
She thought, 'Tomorrow I'll be Mrs. Quentin Robinson. Treat me like this today, and I'll have you fired tomorrow.'
Lauren sat on her bed, her eyes vacant. It was hard to tell if Lauren was crying or laughing.
She sat motionless, tears streaming down her face, but her lips curled into a faint smile, evoking deep sympathy.
"I finally realize I've been lying to myself. I told myself I could forget him, that I didn't care about him. But I love him. I can't forget him, and I don't hate him. I only hate myself for being so weak."
Lauren's tears fell, her voice choked with emotion. "I can't forget him, his eyes, his words, our time together."
Lauren finally acknowledged her true feelings. She had been deceiving herself, suppressing her emotions.
But when she looked into Quentin's eyes, she realized her true feelings, that she had been lying to herself all along.
"Are you okay?" Theodosia asked cautiously, afraid of provoking Lauren.
Hearing Theodosia's words, Lauren laughed bitterly. "I'm just a prisoner now, a pitiful person who can't even see her child."
"That's not true," Theodosia said hesitantly, her voice gentle. "Maybe Mr. Quentin Robinson doesn't want this either. Maybe he has no choice."
Lauren frowned, thoughtful. "How do you know?"
"I don't know. I just feel that he treats Odette very coldly, without any love. It doesn't seem like he likes her."
Theodosia's quick thinking saved her from Lauren's probing.
Her words seemed to remind Lauren, who recalled that Quentin's attitude towards Odette was indeed indifferent.
Quentin rarely smiled and was always cold, but Odette was supposed to be the woman he loved.
Thinking back, Quentin's gaze at Odette lacked any affection, and he was indifferent to her attentions.
"Could he be pretending?" Lauren murmured, recalling how Quentin hadn't hurt her when he grabbed her neck. At the time, she hadn't noticed.
Now, thinking back, there were many doubts. His deep eyes had been full of tenderness.
"Why does he insist I attend the wedding?" Lauren frowned, sitting cross-legged on the bed, pondering.
Theodosia, sweating nervously, asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
