Chapter 456 The Help of a Strange Woman
Odette thought Quentin might hesitate for a moment, but to her surprise, he agreed without a second thought. "Yeah, sure. Just let Lauren go, and I'll hand over Robinson Conglomerate."
Odette burst into laughter, but there was a hint of sadness hidden in her laughter.
"Quentin, you care about her, huh? Too bad I'm not interested in Robinson Conglomerate. Relax, my request is simple. I don't want to go to jail. Get me a new identity and let me live abroad. I promise I won't bother you again."
"You want to skip town? That's not gonna happen. The cops already have your record. If you disappear, Lauren and I will be held responsible for your disappearance. Pick another option." Quentin lied without batting an eye.
In reality, this was not difficult for him at all, but he wanted Odette to face the consequences she deserved.
Odette wasn't fooled by Quentin's lie. She laughed seductively in Lauren's ear, "Lauren, see? Men always talk a big game. He just said he'd do anything for you, and now he's lying to me. Guess he doesn't want to save you."
Lauren was in pain from Odette's grip, but she still glared back defiantly and said seriously, "I believe him."
The more they showed their deep affection, the more it angered Odette.
Seeing Lauren struggling to breathe, Quentin finally relented. "Alright, alright, I'll agree to your terms."
Odette finally loosened her grip but still kept Lauren close, smiling.
"Quentin, that's the smart move. I know this isn't hard for you. I'll give you 10 minutes. Within 10 minutes, I need to see a new ID in front of me, along with a plane ticket and money."
Reluctantly, Quentin called Felix and asked him to handle Odette's identity issue within 10 minutes.
The two of them stood on opposite sides of the street, locked in a standoff.
As time ticked by, a slender, aloof woman approached from a distance.
She had a tall, lean figure, and her eyes seemed to hold many stories.
She wore a simple white shirt and ordinary jeans, yet she exuded an air of elegance.
The woman paused, surprised by the scene in front of her, and briefly exchanged glances with Quentin. "What's going on here?"
Odette, who had relaxed her guard, immediately became defensive again.
She held Lauren tightly and snapped at the woman, "None of your business."
The woman shrugged indifferently. "You're right, it's not my business. But I need to pass by, so it is my business."
"Can't you take another route?" Odette didn't believe the woman's excuse.
"This is the quickest way to the hospital. I often take this shortcut. Didn't expect to run into this today. If you don't believe me, look," the woman shook the bag in her hand, "I got this from the hospital. Now you believe me?"
The bag had the hospital's logo on it.
Seeing the woman was thin and seemingly not a threat, Odette stepped aside slightly. "Hurry up and get lost. If you keep staring, I'll gouge your eyes out."
The woman ignored Odette's threat and, as she passed by, said playfully, "Don't be so hot-tempered, or you won't even know how you got hurt."
As the woman walked away, Odette began to urge Quentin, "Quentin, are your people always this slow? How long has it been? Where's the stuff I asked for?"
"What's the rush?" Quentin raised an eyebrow and glanced at her. "We're only halfway through the time. If you're in such a hurry, you can leave first."
Odette was momentarily speechless but didn't dare to push Quentin further.
The surroundings fell silent again as Odette patiently waited.
Suddenly, she felt a tap on her left shoulder.
Instinctively, she turned around, and a delicate face appeared right in front of her, startling her and causing her to loosen her grip on Lauren.
The woman seized the opportunity, kicking Odette's knee and swiftly pulling Lauren behind her, protecting her.
Almost simultaneously, a group of police officers appeared out of nowhere, surrounding Odette with guns drawn. She didn't dare move.
Felix appeared behind Quentin. "Mr. Robinson, everything is taken care of."
"Good."
Quentin's tense posture finally relaxed slightly.
The 10 minutes had been a stalling tactic.
Even if the woman hadn't shown up, Quentin had his way to save Lauren.
Odette looked defeated, not even resisting as the police handcuffed her and led her to the patrol car.
"Are you okay?" Quentin quickly walked to Lauren, with genuine concern in his eyes.
"I'm fine, don't worry." Lauren rubbed her wrist, which hurt a bit but was otherwise okay.
Hearing Lauren say she was fine, Quentin finally relaxed, his gaze turning complex as he looked at the woman who had saved Lauren. "Thanks for your help."
"No problem. Even if I hadn't shown up, you would have found a way to save her. I was just an extra."
The woman waved her hand dismissively.
Lauren listened to their conversation and frowned slightly.
She felt like Quentin and this woman knew each other, their tone too familiar.
"Regardless, thank you. You weren't hurt, were you?"
Though Quentin's concern was brief, it intensified Lauren's strange feeling.
Since when did Quentin show concern for a stranger? She was increasingly convinced that Quentin knew this woman.
Seeing their casual interaction, Lauren decided not to dwell on it and sincerely thanked the woman. "Thank you for saving me. I'm Lauren."
