Chapter 374 Sulking
Odette didn't say much, walked up to Quentin, and kissed him, but was quickly pushed away by Quentin.
"This is the office, you'd better be more careful," Quentin said, a bit impatient.
"You never used to treat me like this." As she spoke, tears fell from Odette's eyes.
Seeing Odette cry made Quentin even more irritated.
"You need some time to calm down," Quentin said as he tried to leave, but Odette grabbed him.
"Quentin, I don't care who you like, as long as you stay by my side," Odette pleaded repeatedly, hoping he wouldn't abandon her.
Just as Quentin was about to say something, his phone rang.
Quentin glanced at it and then pushed Odette away again.
This was the second time Odette had been pushed away, and she was a bit angry. She questioned Quentin, "Who is it? A phone call can make you treat me like this?"
Quentin didn't say anything, just gave Odette a blank look.
Seeing Quentin look at her like that made Odette panic.
"Don't go, please." Odette begged.
"Stop it," Quentin said, letting go of her hand. He didn't say anything else and walked straight out of the office.
Just now, Odette saw the missed call on Quentin's phone; it was from Lauren.
Odette hadn't considered Lauren a threat, thinking she had no means to compete with her.
But from Quentin's recent reactions, Odette knew she had to be more vigilant about Lauren.
"Lauren, don't push me," Odette said, looking out the window at the city's daytime scenery. "I only have Quentin; you can't take him away from me. I knew Quentin first."
Quentin didn't know why Lauren was calling him, but the moment his phone rang, he had an inexplicable urge to see her.
The elevator reached the floor where Lauren was, but Quentin regretted his impulsiveness.
"Fuck," Quentin muttered irritably, taking the elevator straight to the underground parking garage.
Driving aimlessly, Quentin just wanted to be alone.
"Hey," Quentin called Noah.
Seeing Quentin's call, Noah quickly sat up in bed, "Quentin, I can explain why I didn't come to work today."
Noah thought Quentin was calling to question him about missing work, so he quickly prepared an excuse.
"I'm not calling about that," Quentin said, rubbing his furrowed brow. "The usual place, you have ten minutes to get there."
Without waiting for Noah to respond, Quentin hung up the phone.
'Who pissed off Quentin this time?' Noah wondered, shaking his head as he heard the busy signal.
Not wanting anyone else to bother him today, Quentin turned off his phone after talking to Noah and tossed it into the car.
Lauren, seeing Quentin not answering her calls, tried several more times, only to find his phone was off.
Lauren was a bit disappointed. Today was actually Matthew's birthday, and she wanted Quentin to spend the day with Matthew.
"He didn't answer?" Seeing Lauren's tearful expression, Gregory guessed the outcome.
Lauren thought of the scene where Quentin pulled Odette away, feeling even more upset.
Finally, it was time to leave work. Gregory approached Lauren and asked, "Do you think Matthew would like to meet me?"
Knowing Gregory's good intentions, Lauren smiled and shook her head, "It's okay, I don't want to trouble you."
"How could it be trouble?" Gregory picked up Lauren's bag and led her to the parking lot. "I'm bored anyway and want to go out and have some fun."
Seeing Gregory's enthusiasm, Lauren didn't refuse. She needed a chance to relax.
Gregory drove to pick up Matthew, and the three of them went to the amusement park together.
The amusement park at night was always lively and cheerful, surrounded by warm and joyful colors.
There were balloon sellers and vendors everywhere. Seeing every child holding a balloon, Gregory bought two balloons.
Gregory handed one to Matthew and the other to Lauren.
"Why did you get one for me?" Lauren looked a bit embarrassed, her cheeks slightly flushed. "I'm not a child."
"I think you are," Gregory said, placing the balloon in Lauren's hand.
Lauren didn't know what to say, so she changed the subject and said to Matthew, "Matthew, thank Mr. Walker."
"Thank you, Mr. Walker," Matthew said happily. He had thought his birthday would be boring at home when he heard Quentin was busy with work, but he was glad Gregory took him out.
"Matthew, do you want to ride the carousel?" Gregory bent down and gently tapped Matthew's head.
"Yes!" Matthew answered excitedly.
"Alright." Since Matthew wanted to play, Gregory went to buy tickets. This time, he bought three tickets.
"Do I have to ride too?" Lauren was surprised as she took the ticket from Gregory.
"It's not every day you come to an amusement park. How can you not act like a kid?" Gregory gently patted Lauren's shoulder, reassuring her not to be so tense.
"Exactly," Matthew said, holding Lauren's hand. "It's my birthday, Mommy. Just play with me."
Since both Matthew and Gregory insisted, Lauren reluctantly agreed.
She couldn't remember the last time she went to an amusement park, but Lauren felt incredibly relaxed.
The dreamy lights, the lighthearted music, and the laughter all eased Lauren's anxiety.
When she was with Gregory, Lauren always felt free.
"Gregory, thank you," Lauren said, looking at Gregory with shining eyes.
"Seeing you happy makes me happy too," Gregory smiled. "After all, we're good friends, and we both have the same last name!"
Hearing Gregory joke like that, Matthew believed it and asked, "Mr. Walker, are you actually my uncle?"
