Chapter 138 The Press Conference Scene
At three o'clock in the afternoon, the press conference began promptly. This time, Noah had invited all the well-known media companies and journalists from City A. If they could win these key figures over, the rest would follow naturally.
However, the dozen or so journalists present were all industry heavyweights. Whether Lauren could persuade them was a significant test.
When Lauren and Quentin walked hand in hand onto the stage and sat down on the chairs, the journalists eagerly began their questions.
"Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Robinson, what is the purpose of calling us here today?"
"It's been the fifth day since the last party. What have you been doing these past four days?"
Quentin and Lauren remained unflustered. They exchanged a smile and waited for the room to settle down.
"Alright, everyone, please calm down. We're here to address the issues. Don't rush. We will answer your questions one by one," Noah said, holding the microphone.
As expected, the room quieted down, and a journalist representing the others began to speak.
"Hello, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Robinson. How do you explain the rumors about your divorce?" The journalist asked.
Quentin scoffed. "Do we look like we're divorced?"
"But there's a rumor that you've already divorced. We have also learned that Mrs. Robinson, also known as Miss Walker, has been living in a rented house for the past few months. If you haven't divorced, why are you living apart?" The journalist continued to press.
Lauren took over the conversation, "Dear journalist, Quentin and I just argue. I'm sure everyone here has experienced this—when couples argue, they say all sorts of harsh things. Divorce was just something I said in the heat of the moment. And you all know I'm pregnant. If we were really separated, how could this child still exist?"
Her words made the journalists pause. What she said made sense. It seemed suspicious that even if they were to divorce, it wouldn't be during Lauren's pregnancy.
"As for the house Lauren was renting, I actually bought it the very first day she moved in. Lauren suddenly took a liking to that old house, so I bought it on a whim. Is that not allowed?" Quentin added.
This revelation was undoubtedly a bombshell. It turned out that this was just a trivial matter of their romantic relationship, catching the journalists off guard.
Lauren hadn't expected that Quentin had already bought the house. She looked at Quentin with deep affection, realizing he was indeed meticulous, making her see him in a new light.
"And regarding the matter with Wendy. There are online rumors that Lauren framed Wendy, but that's completely false. Please look at the projector screen. Here are the results of Wendy's trial today. Wendy stalked Lauren, kidnapped her, and even attempted to harm her with acid. All these actions are backed by evidence. The judge in court was naturally fair and just. So, please be careful not to be misled by malicious rumors," as Quentin spoke, he displayed the evidence proving Wendy's crimes on the screen.
The audience was in an uproar. They hadn't expected such a twist. It was hard to believe that the seemingly pure goddess Wendy had done such vile things behind the scenes.
However, a few journalists in the audience raised new questions. "Mr. Robinson, perhaps what you said is true. But initially, Lauren schemed to marry you. Isn't it true that you've been cold to her and frequently visited those nightclubs because of this for the past two years?"
Upon hearing this, Quentin's face turned cold. "This isn't about Wendy. I don't need to explain it to you."
"It is a fact that Lauren is a manipulative woman. Even if Wendy tried to harm her, she deserved it!" the journalist shouted.
"Which media outlet are you from? You are so arrogant. State your name. I want to see who gave you the courage!" Quentin demanded.
Unbeknownst to Quentin, this journalist had already been bribed by Anthony, which was why he kept making things difficult for Lauren.
Seeing Quentin's rage, Lauren knew that if things continued this way, it wouldn't change everyone's perception of her. She stood up voluntarily.
"Everyone, listen to me. Yes, back then, I did become Mrs. Robinson with the support of Jessica. But when I saved Jessica, I truly didn't know her identity. My love for Quentin is genuine. Meeting Quentin has been the greatest happiness of my life. You may not understand, but I fell in love with Quentin, not because of his status or appearance but his passionate heart." Lauren looked at Quentin with fiery eyes as if her memory had suddenly returned to the car accident scene two years ago.
"Two years ago, I was still a naive girl, fresh out of school. I encountered a car accident, and just when I thought I would go to jail for hitting someone, Quentin appeared like a savior. He told everyone that the man I hit did it on purpose and helped me drive him away." At this point, Lauren chuckled, thinking about how naive and ridiculous she had been.
Lauren took Quentin's hand and continued, "From that moment on, I couldn't stop thinking about him. I use every means to investigate him, to get close to him, but I never have the chance. Later, I meet Jessica again. During our chat, we talked about this topic, and I didn't expect her to be Quentin's grandmother. I was very happy, not because I had a way to get close to Quentin, but because I had the chance to save his grandmother, and that was all," Lauren said.
Lauren spoke sincerely, and the journalists in the audience were moved. This was merely a young girl's love story, unrelated to any interests.
Several female journalists understood Lauren's feelings. They had loved, they had been obsessed, and they had made sacrifices for love.
"Later, Grandma decided to help me. I was very happy at the time. I think that as long as I am sincere and truly love Quentin, he will surely be moved by me. But I forgot that to him, I was just a stranger, suddenly becoming his wife. It's understandable that he couldn't accept it right away." Lauren added.
Thinking about those two years, Lauren still felt terrified. Perhaps those painful days were her retribution. After all, she selfishly took the position of Quentin's wife.
Seeing Lauren in tears, Quentin felt immense heartache. Even though he had now fallen in love with Lauren, the past still haunted him.
