Chapter 388 Bad Things Happen Again
Upon hearing Quentin's words, Gregory's mood shifted, his initial confidence turning into tension and unease.
"Something interesting?" Gregory, being the president of the Cloud Group, didn't show any cracks in his expression despite the turmoil inside. His smile remained, and he didn't even raise an eyebrow.
"Mr. Walker, do you want everyone to hear this? I don't mind, after all, it has nothing to do with me," Quentin's tone was slightly provocative, clearly challenging.
"Mr. Robinson, since you put it that way, why don't we go next door and discuss this in detail?" Gregory was starting to lose his composure.
Gregory had a secret he couldn't tell anyone, and this was exactly what Quentin was about to reveal, which was also Gregory's greatest fear.
Due to Quentin's interruption, the meeting had to be temporarily halted. Gregory and Quentin went next door, which used to be Quentin's office but had been forcibly converted into a break room by Gregory.
'How childish!' Quentin thought.
Back in his old office, Quentin felt a renewed sense of confidence and control, very much at ease.
"Please have a seat, Mr. Walker," Quentin said, his demeanor that of a host entertaining a guest, rather than the other way around.
Gregory raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased with Quentin's attitude. "Mr. Robinson, you are quite impolite."
"Mr. Walker, didn't you forcibly turn my office into a break room? We're the same," Quentin replied.
Gregory didn't want to waste time on this matter. He got straight to the point, "Mr. Robinson, what exactly do you want to say to me?"
Quentin gestured to Noah to hand him the paper documenting Gregory's past, then leisurely said, "I recently discovered the relationship between Mr. Walker and myself, so I got curious and looked into Mr. Walker's history."
Quentin's unhurried tone made Gregory's heart race faster, but even so, his expression remained unchanged.
With the upper hand, Quentin was even more composed. He could afford to take his time, knowing that the longer it took, the more likely Gregory's facade would crumble.
This was Quentin's strategy.
Gregory was indeed getting anxious. He couldn't wait any longer, especially with a temporarily halted meeting waiting for him next door.
"What did you find out?" Gregory asked.
"Do you remember what happened in the winter when you were thirteen?" Quentin asked slowly, and he clearly saw Gregory's face turn pale as he spoke.
"Thirteen?" Gregory tried to maintain his composure, unaware that Quentin had already seen through him. "I was doing fine in the orphanage at thirteen. What's wrong with that?"
'No way! Only I and that person know about it. Quentin couldn't have found out,' Gregory reassured himself, but the memories flooding his mind and the cold sweat on his forehead betrayed him.
"Are you sure you want me to say it out loud?" Quentin asked, like an executioner with a dull knife facing a condemned prisoner.
"What do you want?" Gregory's patience had reached its limit. "Robinson Conglomerate? Or the Cloud Group as well?"
"What? I thought you'd want to hear it," Quentin continued. "Do you know what a role reversal is, Mr. Walker?"
"Shut up, Quentin. Stop being so aggressive. Do you think I really can't deal with you?" Gregory said. He couldn't deal with Quentin, but Lauren was Quentin's vulnerability.
'I know this is enough,' Gregory thought.
"Is that so? Then let's see if you can ruin me first, or if I can drag you to hell first!" Quentin threatened.
With that, Quentin left with Noah, leaving Gregory with a dark expression. He punched the wall with his right hand, emitting a resentful cry. "Quentin, we'll see!"
Noah said, "Quentin, did you forget..."
"Gregory won't be targeting Robinson Conglomerate anymore, at least not for now," Quentin interrupted Noah's question and explained. "He wants to make Robinson Conglomerate a subsidiary of the Cloud Group, not to reclaim what Robinson Conglomerate owes him, but to restrain me. He planned every step, except he didn't expect me to find out his secret."
"His secret?" Noah repeated, carefully reviewing the paper Quentin handed back, then suddenly realized, "He was... at thirteen..."
"There are too many people here," Quentin interrupted Noah. No matter what, Gregory was still his brother.
Family scandals shouldn't be aired in public.
Noah understood. When he took Quentin back to the hospital, Lauren was waiting there.
To be precise, Lauren had been staring blankly until Quentin returned.
"Quentin? Are you okay? Did you know something happened to Robinson Conglomerate? Are you alright?" Lauren's questions poured out the moment she saw Quentin.
She hated her own helplessness and despised the fact that she relied on Quentin for everything. Yet when Quentin faced difficulties, she felt powerless.
"Don't worry," Quentin said calmly.
He didn't explain because he knew that as long as he said this, Lauren would be at ease.
This was the tacit understanding between lovers.
Lauren nodded, feeling much more at ease, but she still hated her own uselessness.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" After much hesitation, Lauren finally asked.
Her face was very red when she said this.
'How will Quentin respond? Will he say I can help? Or will he say I'll just mess things up?' Lauren couldn't help but wonder.
Lauren eagerly awaited Quentin's response.
"No need," Quentin, unaware of Lauren's inner turmoil, instinctively replied.
"Right," Lauren said with a self-mocking smile.
'Quentin has Odette, doesn't he? Odette studied abroad in Weitela. I'm just wishful thinking,' Lauren's eyes dimmed. She didn't say these words out loud, letting them quietly stay in her heart.
