Chapter 312 Who Betrayed Whom

Quentin shot a cold glance at Sophia, who was all dolled up. His face was blank, not at all like a guy about to get engaged.

Sophia didn't seem to care about Quentin's cold shoulder. She walked up to him with a sweet smile, gently took his hand, and said softly, "Quentin, I know you're a workaholic, but today is super important for us. Everyone's waiting, let's go."

Quentin stood up and pulled his hand away from hers. "No rush, it's not even noon yet," he said.

"Okay, let's head out at noon then. Some folks from the Hall family are here with bad intentions. Let me handle them; you stay out of it," Sophia said deliberately.

Three years ago, Sophia became the head of the Hall family with Quentin's help. But those who weren't happy about it had been waiting for a chance to take back control. Seeing Sophia and Quentin together, they hoped this engagement party would fall apart.

Quentin knew this all too well. He looked at Sophia, whose heavy makeup couldn't hide her pale face. The bruise on her forehead was still visible, and she had four broken ribs.

Quentin sighed silently. When did he become so heartless and cold? Since he decided to get engaged to Sophia, he shouldn't have any more hopes for Lauren.

His eyes softened, and he took Sophia's hand back. "I get it. Leave it to me. It's getting late. Let's go out now."

Sophia blushed and smiled. Similarly, her few kind words brought back Quentin's tenderness, showing that love needed nurturing.

Just as they were about to leave, there was a hurried knock on the door. Quentin opened it to see a worried Felix and a sad Matthew.

Before they could react, Matthew rushed in and separated Quentin and Sophia's hands, glaring at Quentin like an angry little lion. "Quentin, are you going to abandon me and mommy?"

Quentin frowned, not understanding why Matthew was here. He looked at Felix for an explanation.

Felix, sensing trouble, said, "Mr. Robinson, I don't know how Matthew got to the hall alone. I was worried he might get into trouble, so I brought him here."

Quentin's face darkened. He wasn't mad at Felix for bringing Matthew over but was upset about Matthew being alone.

Sophia's smile faltered. She guessed that Matthew's appearance was Lauren's doing to disrupt the engagement. She secretly hated Lauren's cunning but kept a smile on her face.

Felix felt Sophia's displeasure and got a chill down his spine. These were people he couldn't afford to offend; he could only hope for some luck.

Sophia crouched down with a playful effort to look at Matthew. "Matthew, I'm glad you came. Don't worry, I'll get you lots of yummy food and fun toys later. Be a good boy, okay?"

Matthew angrily shook off Sophia's hand and shouted, "I don't care!"

Sophia saw her chance and dramatically fell to the ground, acting like she was in pain and struggling to breathe.

Quentin quickly squatted down to help her, looking worried. "Are you okay?"

Sophia shook her head gently. "I'm fine. I just lost my balance. I'll be okay after a rest. Don't blame Matthew."

But her words didn't calm Quentin down. He glared at Matthew. "Do you know what you've done? If I don't discipline you, you'll never learn any manners!"

It was the first time Matthew had seen Quentin so angry. He felt scared and wronged. With teary eyes, he looked at Quentin and said, "Quentin, you're not my daddy anymore! You're worse than a stepfather! You married another woman; you betrayed me and mommy!"

Quentin raised his hand in anger, ready to hit Matthew, but stopped mid-air. What right did he have to hit Matthew? He had never taken care of or educated him, and now he had no right to hit him.

Felix quickly ran over and hugged Matthew. "Mr. Robinson, how about I take Matthew to Ms. Walker?"

Unfortunately, Felix didn't know Lauren's contact information or address; otherwise, he wouldn't have let things get this bad.

Sophia chimed in, "Quentin, I know Matthew doesn't like me, and we have misunderstandings. Although I really want him to stay for our engagement ceremony, but..."

She had her own reasons. Matthew absolutely couldn't stay. If he appeared in public, her engagement with Quentin would become a joke.

Quentin, however, had other plans. He didn't know what he was hoping for, but he actually wanted Lauren to show up. He wanted to see her reaction at the engagement party.

"We'll be very busy today. Call Lauren and have her come pick up Matthew," Quentin said coldly, handing his phone to Felix.

Matthew looked at Quentin in disappointment and shouted, "Quentin, you're a big liar! You forgot you promised to love me and mommy!"

Quentin's face darkened again. "I tell you, it's not me who betrayed you; it's you who betrayed me!"

Matthew couldn't understand Quentin's words. He struggled in Felix's arms, helplessly watching Quentin and Sophia walk towards the door.

Just before the door closed, Quentin left a final instruction, "Felix, take good care of him."

Felix quickly agreed, always on edge when working for Quentin. After finding Lauren's number in Quentin's phone, he immediately dialed it.

At that moment, Lauren was on her way to the police station. She had been at work when she suddenly received a call from Matthew's kindergarten teacher, informing her that Matthew was missing.

Lauren almost fainted. Given that Quentin's car accident was suspected to be a retaliation by the Obsidian Gang, she feared Matthew's disappearance might also be related to them.

But without evidence, it was hard to make any assumptions. She first rushed to the kindergarten and searched the surrounding area but found no trace of Matthew.

With no other options, she decided to report it to the police. She went to the police station to seek help from an officer she knew.

Just then, Lauren received a call from Felix.
