Chapter 62 Becoming Superior and Inferior
It was not that Lauren was being melodramatic; she just didn't want to give up her job. However, after the bleeding incident, Dr. Olivia repeatedly reminded her to take care of her health. Now, what could be more important than the child in her belly?
Might as well listen to Quentin and let him find someone to take over her current job. After all, she can't run to the market now, nor can she personally experience the sales of various products as before.
To ‘please’ Quentin and get him to arrange things for her, Lauren personally cooked his favorite steamed fish.
Since Quentin's taste is as light as hers, Lauren didn't have to worry if Quentin would find it too bland.
Quentin learned from the chef that the fish was specially made for him by Lauren, which put him in a great mood. He really liked the feeling of this place.
Recently, Quentin accompanied Lauren to the hospital, leaving Noah in distress.
On business trips, Noah took Quentin's place in accompanying clients for meals and attending various banquets. While he had accompanied Quentin occasionally in the past, he always did so with a carefree attitude, not concerning himself with work matters or engaging with business partners.
Upon hearing Quentin's return to the company, Noah was overjoyed. However, every time he tried to find Quentin, he missed him. Coupled with Lauren's mysterious disappearance, Noah couldn't resist his curiosity to inquire further.
That day, Noah did nothing and arrived early at Quentin's office, waiting for him.
When Quentin arrived at the company, Cecilia informed him that Noah was waiting for him. Quentin already sensed trouble brewing.
"Are you so busy that it's difficult for me to see you even once?" Noah immediately spoke as Quentin entered the office.
"Yes," Quentin responded lightly.
This time, Noah completely lost his composure. "Hey, it's been a long time since we've seen each other. Are you really going to be so cold to me? Aren't we childhood buddies who grew up wearing the same pants?" Noah was exasperated.
"Don't say that. When did we ever wear the same pants?" Quentin raised an eyebrow.
"I'm speaking figuratively, you know?" Noah felt embarrassed. Quentin's focus was clearly not on the important matters. "Quentin, be honest, what have you been up to lately? You don't answer my calls, and you're pushing all the work onto me. Am I your lackey? Also, Lauren is missing. Did you two go on a honeymoon?"
Quentin looked at Noah seriously and stated the fact. "She's pregnant."
Noah was almost floored by Quentin's words. "No way, Lauren is pregnant? Is it yours?"
"Of course!"
"No, that's not what I meant. You once told me that Lauren was just for show, and you never had a serious relationship with her. So, how can she be pregnant?" Noah asked, clearly puzzled.
In truth, Noah was relishing Quentin's drama, observing his stubbornness in denying any feelings for Lauren. But now, with her pregnancy, Noah questioned the point of maintaining such a facade.
"This isn't your concern; just knowing is sufficient," Quentin replied coldly, signaling to Noah that the topic was off-limits.
Not willing to let it go, Noah persisted, "Quentin, just share the news with me. Let me share in your happiness.""You should get to work. Do you find the Sales Director's job too easy? It's fine; I have another job for you." Quentin took out a USB drive containing the plan Lauren had given him.
"Take it and make a proposal as quickly as possible."
Noah looked at Quentin with a hint of resentment. "You're ruthless. Remember how you treated me today; don't come to me for help in the future!"
Noah left Quentin's office feeling dejected.
Quentin started working, feeling the passage of time slow down with his concerns. He longed to go home, to the villa, to see Lauren.
To dispel Lauren's concerns about Wendy completely, Quentin delegated all work related to Wendy to others. Once he decided to treat someone well, he would do so wholeheartedly.
Just like he did with his first love, he even gave his all for his first love, only to be heartbroken in the end.
In the evening, Quentin returned home to see Lauren busy in the kitchen, a faint smile on her face.
Lauren was always busy, ignoring the maid's advice and insisting on helping in the kitchen every time. Eventually, everyone stopped objecting as long as she was happy.
Quentin had no choice with this stubborn Madam, but it was this straightforward nature that earned his affection.
After dinner, Quentin solemnly called Lauren to the study.
"Mr. Robinson, what's the matter?" Lauren was puzzled.
"I've transferred you to the Robinson Conglomerate, which means you're now an employee of our company. Considering your health, I can allow you to work from home." Quentin said somewhat proudly, ensuring that whether at home or in the office, he would be her superior.
Lauren couldn't help but roll her eyes at Quentin. His arrangement from yesterday turned out to be this. The only unrelated job she could have was now gone.
"What kind of work do you plan to assign me?" Finally, Lauren asked patiently.
"Since you're meticulous, be my secretary," Quentin said in a casual tone.
A secretary? Really? Everyone knew Quentin was difficult to please. If she became his secretary, would she have any good days left?
"What? Don't want to?" Quentin said coldly.
"No, no, it's just that I'm not good at writing and not very efficient. I'm afraid I'll hinder your work." Lauren explained.
"It's fine. Considering your pregnancy, I can tolerate you." Quentin disregarded her concerns, issuing a final warning to Lauren.
"You can tolerate me, but I'm not sure if I can tolerate you!" Lauren muttered softly.
Quentin seemed to hear her, his stern gaze turning toward Lauren, startling her.
"Come here, help me translate this document." Quentin took charge, immediately putting his new secretary to work.
Lauren, having boasted about continuing to work, had no choice. Although she was displeased with Quentin forcibly transferring her from Patrick, it was indeed a good way to divert attention.
Lauren found a stool, sat across from Quentin, and began the task he had given her.
Quentin glanced up to see Lauren working earnestly across from him. Her long eyelashes fluttered like two butterflies, her face serene and beautiful, tempting one to give her a kiss.
Quentin shook his head, wondering when this woman, Lauren, had become so charming.
