Chapter 214 Angel Baby
Lauren and Kimberly got back to Ethan's villa. Lauren, looking worried, took Matthew to her room. Kimberly and Ethan kept quiet. They knew better than to interfere when Lauren was disciplining Matthew.
Matthew stood there, not daring to move, as Lauren fumed, unsure where to start. He reached out, gently holding her hand, and looked at her with pleading eyes.
"Mommy, how much is a lot of times?" Matthew asked, trying to change the subject and calm her down.
Lauren's anger softened a bit at his innocent look. "What do you mean? Do you even know how many things you did wrong today?" She questioned as she shook off his chubby hand and stared at him sternly.
Matthew hung his head. He apologized, "Mommy, I was wrong. Please don't be mad."
But Lauren wasn't buying it. She knew he was trying to wriggle out of trouble again. "Then tell me what you did wrong," she demanded.
Matthew's face scrunched up, showing he wasn't really sorry. Lauren sighed. She asked, "How many times have I told you to be polite? Why were you so rude to Sophia?"
Matthew pouted. He explained, "I don't like her. She looks like a ghost with all that makeup."
Lauren was both angry and amused. Only Matthew could say something like that. She probed further, "You can't describe people like that. It's rude. And where did you meet Quentin? Do you even know who he is?"
Matthew looked at her, confused. He simply replied, "Quentin is just Quentin. Who else could he be?"
Lauren felt a bit relieved. At least Matthew didn't know Quentin was his father. She hadn't hidden it on purpose, but she hadn't told him either.
Lauren asked, "It's nothing. I'm just curious why you like him so much when you've never met him before."
Matthew's face lit up. He remarked excitedly, "He's so cool! I want to be like him."
Lauren was speechless. Kids' worlds were so simple. But she still needed to set him straight.
Lauren scolded again, "You can't ignore my rules just because someone is cool. I told you not to take things from strangers or get close to them."
"Quentin isn't a stranger. He knows you and Uncle Ethan," Matthew said.
Lauren was at a loss for words. She knelt down to his level. She requested, "Matthew, you're too young to understand how complicated the adult world is. Don't trust people so easily, okay?"
Matthew nodded in agreement. He said innocently, "But Mommy, Quentin isn't bad. He's nice to me. He played lots of games with me. I like him."
Lauren felt even more conflicted. Matthew and Quentin seemed destined to meet. She wondered if Matthew would be happy if he knew Quentin was his father.
In the end, Lauren's attempt to teach Matthew a lesson was sidestepped. She could only pat his little head and let him go out to play.
Seeing that Lauren was no longer angry, Matthew happily ran downstairs.
Kimberly and Ethan were downstairs, trying to eavesdrop. They were surprised to see Matthew running down happily instead of crying.
"Matthew, what did Lauren say to you?" Kimberly asked, stopping him.
Matthew looked confused. He answered, "Mommy told me to be polite and not talk to strangers."
Kimberly smiled and nodded in approval. She advised, "Listen to her and don't annoy her."
"Okay," Matthew replied and went off to play with his building blocks.
Kimberly watched him thoughtfully. After a while, she turned to Ethan. She said anxiously, "Ethan, are you still going to wait? If you keep waiting, Quentin might take Matthew away."
Ethan looked serious. He replied, "Kimberly, I don't want to wait, but I can't force Lauren to choose. Pressuring her is the last thing I want."
"Are you giving Quentin a chance to hurt Lauren and Matthew by waiting? I've always supported you. You and Lauren have been getting along for three years. Your sincerity is clear. I think Lauren understands," Kimberly said, hoping Ethan would make a move.
If Lauren married into the White family with Matthew, Ethan could protect Matthew and keep him close. Kimberly believed that with Ethan, Lauren would find a lifelong partner, and she would be at ease.
"Kimberly, I appreciate your support. I'll plan this carefully. Give me more time. I promise to surprise Lauren," Ethan said, his smile serious and sincere.
Kimberly felt a bit relieved. Since Ethan had promised, she would wait and see patiently.
Lauren didn't go to the Robinson Estate for the next three days. She needed time to sort out her feelings, so she took her time. She went to work on time, taught her students seriously, and helped Kimberly with food and housework when she got home. Life was normal and peaceful.
But on the fourth day, a visitor disrupted her peace.
Sophia waited outside Ethan's villa early in the morning. As soon as Lauren stepped out, Sophia stopped her.
"Miss Walker, hello. Can we talk?" Sophia said with a smile.
Lauren raised an eyebrow, annoyed. She said sarcastically, "I don't think we have anything to talk about. Are you here to remind me to be careful of Quentin because I returned to the country?"
Three years ago, it was Sophia who tipped her off, claiming Quentin wanted to take custody of Matthew, which scared her into fleeing abroad.
At that time, she was a stay-at-home mom with no means to support herself, let alone fight Quentin for custody.
She studied hard under Joseph's tutelage to become someone capable of supporting herself. She didn't care about fame or money, only about having the qualifications to fight Quentin for custody.
