Chapter 84 The Life of the Affluent

Lauren quickly gathered her belongings and followed Quentin into the car, ready to head to the market. Lauren had always had a poor sense of direction. She only knew that the vehicle turned left, right, and went straight, but she had no idea where they were headed or where she was. Even if Quentin were to sell Lauren off to some remote mountain area, she probably wouldn't realize it.
Usually, Lauren only shopped at the nearby supermarket, so she was unfamiliar with this market. Finally, Quentin drove the car into an underground parking lot in a bustling area, which made Lauren even more puzzled.
"Are we here?" Lauren inquired, wanting to confirm.
"Yes," Quentin replied.
Lauren got out of the car with an awkward smile, thinking, 'What a joke. What kind of market has a parking lot?'
Quentin walked ahead, and Lauren followed closely behind him. Eventually, when they arrived at an elevator, Lauren saw a promotional board that revealed this was a high-end fresh produce supermarket.
The so-called high-end meant that all the vegetables were sold while still in the soil. Customers would choose the vegetables they wanted, which would then be dug out, cleaned, and sold to them. Moreover, the vegetables were sold by the piece, not by weight. So, it was evident that this place was not for ordinary people.
This kind of store had been specially reported on the news, and Lauren knew only a little about it. She couldn't imagine what it was really like inside.
"Mr. Robinson, we're just having a simple dinner. There's no need to come to such a high-end place to buy these strange vegetables." Lauren tugged at Quentin's sleeve, trying to get him to leave.
"These vegetables are all organic and safe to eat," Quentin said as he pressed the elevator button. The doors closed, and the elevator ascended slowly.
Lauren complained inwardly, 'Only someone as eccentric and wealthy as Quentin would buy such expensive vegetables! What are organic vegetables? As long as you're willing to spend money, you can eat anything. These unscrupulous merchants use this kind of gimmick to trick people like Quentin.'
Seeing that Quentin was determined to enter the store, Lauren had no choice but to follow him and broaden her horizons. As soon as Lauren entered, she was stunned by the scene inside. The supermarket was vast, filled with various nutrient-rich soils, and all kinds of vegetables were growing in them.
The planting pots used high-tech methods, displaying humidity and various trace elements in the soil. It was almost too much for her eyes to take in!
Lauren felt as if she had walked into some research lab, never imagining that an ordinary vegetable would require such cultivation. She was a commoner, fearing that eating these vegetables might even burn her mouth.
At this moment, a service staff approached, "Hello, sir, madam, what kind of vegetables are you looking for?"
Quentin seriously observed the myriad of nutrient-rich soils. He wasn't sure what pregnant women should or shouldn't eat, so he asked, "Which vegetables are suitable for pregnant women? Which ones are highly nutritious? Please prepare some for me."
"Certainly, sir. The nutritional value of our vegetables is ten times that of ordinary ones, so they are excellent for pregnant women. Pregnant women should avoid spicy and cold foods, so I will steer clear of those for you," the service staff said in a gentle voice.
Quentin nodded slightly and continued walking forward. Lauren didn't dare to wander off, following closely behind Quentin.
She couldn't help but marvel inwardly, 'These vegetables, which require so much workforce, resources, and money, indeed need to be sold at higher prices to avoid losses. However, it is a bit of a pity that such beautiful vegetables are to be eaten.'
Lauren was dazzled by the sight. Before she could finish looking, Quentin pulled her back. At the checkout counter, Quentin took out a black card and handed it to the cashier. After completing the payment, the service staff smiled and gave the vegetables they had just bought to Quentin.
Lauren quickly snatched the receipt, wanting to see how much these peculiar vegetables cost. What? Two thousand yuan? Were they robbing us?
Lauren was shocked. Quentin walked ahead with the vegetables, but Lauren couldn't move.
Seeing that Lauren hadn't followed, Quentin walked back to check on her. He saw Lauren clutching the receipt tightly as if she wanted to crush it.
"What's wrong? Is there something wrong with the receipt?" Quentin asked.
Lauren seemed to be brewing a lot of emotions and said, "Quentin, return all these vegetables! They're too expensive! Just look, this cabbage alone costs a hundred yuan! That's faster money than robbery!"
"This cabbage isn't just any cabbage. It's highly nutritious," Quentin replied.
"It's not about the nutrition. The service staff has tricked you. For a hundred yuan, I could buy ten cabbages and eat as much as I wanted. But you, you bring just one unimpressive cabbage. I can't accept this!" Lauren exclaimed, thinking that this store made money too easily.
"As long as it's good for you, it's worth any amount," Quentin reassured the agitated Lauren.
Hearing this, Lauren was stunned. Was Quentin saying sweet words to her? Was this how Quentin expressed affection? She felt light-headed as if she were floating on clouds.
Quentin saw Lauren's expression and couldn't help but find it both helpless and amusing. Lauren often showed this sweet demeanor, and he had to admit that it worked well for him.
Lauren obediently closed her mouth. Quentin was willing to spend money on her and willing to give her the best things. She should feel grateful.
Besides, for Quentin, money was the least of his concerns. It was only right for him to contribute a bit for the baby.
Once in the car, Quentin didn't rush to take Lauren home but drove to a seafood store to buy some high-quality salmon before deciding to head back.
"Mr. Robinson, I want to tell you, you've bought so much that I can't finish it. I don't even know how to cook salmon," Lauren voiced her concern.
"I'll handle it," Quentin said calmly as he continued driving, but Lauren couldn't stay calm. She thought, 'Is Quentin cooking? My goodness, this is even bigger news, explosive news!'
Lauren felt that Quentin was different today. It seemed like he was accommodating her in everything, considering everything for her. This feeling of being carefully attended to by Quentin was really nice!
Lauren looked at Quentin's profile and smiled happily. If they had started this way, she might have been the happy person Dean said she could be!
But time couldn't go back two years. They couldn't return to the past. All these imaginings were wrapped up in Lauren's hypothesis.
