Chapter 163 The Perfect Illustration of a Snob

Hearing it, Ulysses realized that his tone was too harsh.

He calmed down and said, "You've disappointed me. You should have told me about your divorce. I could have supported you. The arrangement gives you nothing. This is bullying. You carried the Robinson family child. You should be compensated, right?"

Lauren looked at Ulysses with amusement. So, he came here to fight for the Robinson family's assets. How could he say that?

Seeing Lauren remain silent, Ulysses assumed she was upset, so he continued, "I shouldn't have hit you earlier just because you didn't consider the future. The Robinsons' various assets. Robinson Conglomerate, half of it should be yours after divorcing from Quentin. Don't give up due to pride. These are yours."

Lauren found it funny. She still thought Ulysses might care for her. The reality was terribly wild.

"Dad, stop dreaming. I own nothing in the Robinson Conglomerate. Since I haven't helped The Robinson family in two years, I should leave with nothing," Lauren said.

Hearing this, Ulysses darkened immediately. He coldly remarked, "The Robinsons didn't give a dowry when you married Quentin. He considered you inferior. After giving him a son, you still don't defend your assets. I'm disappointed with you. We couldn't have raised you for nothing. Taking back every cent I own."

Lauren felt ashamed of Ulysses' words. She could ignore others' criticism, but now Ulysses was humiliating her. She was on the verge of despair.

"Dad, please don't humiliate yourself at the Robinsons anymore. Please give me my last dignity!" Lauren begged.

Ulysses shook off Lauren's hand. He snapped, "Dignity is worthless!"

"Dad! Please stop pressuring me. Don't trouble the Robinson family if you treat me as a daughter," Lauren said.

"I don't have a useless daughter!" Ulysses shouted. Compared to family ties, he cared more about money.

A voice suddenly interrupted the conversation, "Mr. Walker, you're quite impressive."

Just as Lauren was at a loss, Ethan appeared in time, sarcastically breaking the tension.

Ulysses turned to see Ethan standing behind him. He smiled, shaking his hand to Ethan.

"Mr. White, I'm sorry to discuss these matters in your presence, hoping you can understand my concerns," Ulysses said.

Ethan skillfully avoided Ulysses' hand. If Ulysses weren't Lauren's father, he would have had him thrown out earlier.

Ulysses awkwardly smiled. He slyly remarked, "You're impressive. I watched you grow up and didn't anticipate you to become White Group CEO so rapidly. Your future is bright!"

Ethan ignored Ulysses and walked over to Lauren. He boldly declared, "Our relationship has always been strong. I like Lauren. No matter what she chooses in the future, I will always stand by her. So if anyone tries to hurt her, I won't tolerate it."

Seeing Ulysses, Ethan's gaze became menacing. Despite knowing Ulysses' character, he couldn't stand his actions.

Ulysses laughed awkwardly, understanding what Ethan meant.

Ulysses calmly replied, "I'm relieved you're watching Lauren. I'm leaving for business."

After saying this, Ulysses turned and left, his smile turning into a scowl. Ethan didn't take him seriously, so he would have to put in some effort in the future.

Lauren was still disturbed by Ulysses' statements. She understood he was profit-driven and wouldn't change his position because of her.

After Ulysses left, Ethan looked at Lauren's swollen right cheek with concern.

"Does it hurt?" Ethan asked.

Lauren pushed Ethan's hand away and said, "You shouldn't have said it earlier. Though you wanted to help me, my dad will now regard you as a resource."

"It doesn't matter. I meant every word I said. My feelings for you..." Ethan said.

"Stop. I can't think about this right now," Lauren insisted as she rubbed her forehead, feeling utterly exhausted.

Ethan felt even more concerned for Lauren. He patiently suggested, "Why don't you rest? I'll get some ice to reduce the swelling on your face."

Lauren thanked him and returned to her room, feeling lost.

Looking at Matthew, Lauren cried. No one believed her, understood her or regarded her sentiments. Before and after the divorce, she was alone.

Lauren didn't disturb Matthew's rest, suppressing her sobs until she fell asleep.

In her sleep, Ethan entered the room. He pitied Lauren. The handprint on her cheek and tears in her eyes remained. He carefully applied an ice pack on her cheek.

Lauren frowned slightly but didn't wake up. Ethan continued to apply the ice until the swelling subsided, then quietly left the room.

It was Matthew's one-month birthday. When Lauren woke up, she tried to forget the unpleasantness of the previous day. She went to Robinson Estate early in the morning, as she had promised Jessica to bring Matthew to see her.

However, Lauren was more worried that Ulysses would come to the Robinson family to cause trouble today. So, she decided to stay to prevent anything from happening without her awareness.

Ethan had arranged the celebration for the evening. Lauren had agreed to come back early.

Jessica also got up that day. Seeing Matthew and Lauren, her face brightened.

"Lauren, today is Matthew's one-month birthday. I believed we should be cheerful even though you didn't want a party. Will you eat with me today?" Jessica said with a smile.

Lauren naturally wouldn't refuse it. She warmly replied, "Of course, Grandma. Just a meal like usual would be great."

Jessica nodded in agreement. She wanted Lauren and Quentin to meet. After resolving many obstacles, Lauren and Quentin may get another chance.

Lauren and Jessica were playing with Matthew in the living room when Quentin walked in.
