Chapter 76 Ethan's New Discovery
Ethan drove to a bar he often visited, ready to drown his sorrows.
At that moment, Lauren called him. Ethan didn't know how to face her, so he didn't answer the phone.
It turned out that after Lauren calmed down. She realized that Ethan, who had come to the hospital with her, had disappeared without a trace.
Lauren chose to forgive Quentin, but she still harbored resentment about Wendy's pregnancy. If Wendy was truly pregnant, how would she handle it?
Lauren pushed away from Quentin's embrace, "Quentin, let me go. I need to get a check-up."
Reluctantly, Quentin let go and said softly, "I'll accompany you."
"No need, my friend is here with me. You're busy with work, so you don't need to worry about me."
Quentin, hearing Lauren's words, thought she was still angry, a hint of sadness in his eyes.
"Are you still angry?"
Lauren shook her head, "I'm not angry anymore. I just need to calm down about Wendy's situation until I confirm whether she's lying or not. Please give me some time to think it over."
Quentin knew Lauren was a thoughtful person, not wanting to bind her with a marriage certificate. Since she needed time, he would give her that time and try to prove his innocence.
"Alright, you and your friend take care. I'll leave first." Quentin said as he gently touched Lauren's hair, showing great affection.
Then Quentin turned to left, leaving Lauren silently watching him walk away.
It was only then that Lauren remembered Ethan, who had not shown up to pick her up. She called him, but no one answered. Had he seen the scene earlier? Was he angry? Angry that she forgave Quentin so easily?
Lauren knew Ethan genuinely cared for her, not wanting him to be disappointed in her. Finally, Lauren sent him a text message.
"Lauren: [Ethan, I'm sorry. I know I've let you down again. But please don't ignore me. I don't want to lose you as a good friend.]."
Ethan drowned his sorrows in drink, as if the cold alcohol froze his sad emotions.
When he finally saw the text message from Lauren, his emotions became even more complicated. He didn't want to lose Lauren more than anyone else, but she didn't belong to him. She would never be his lover. This realization made him feel terrible.
Ethan forced a bitter smile, took up the bottle and drank heavily. Then he cleared his throat and called back Lauren.
"Lauren, sorry, I’m busy just now. I saw you with Quentin at the hospital, seeing you happy made me feel relieved. Besides, there's something at my father's company that needs my attention, so I have to go. Don't worry about me. I'm not angry. Just talk things out with Quentin. Everything will be fine." Ethan pretended not to care, but his heart was bleeding as he spoke those words.
Lauren was overwhelmed with joy and burst into tears to hear Ethan's words, "Ethan, thank you. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for always being on my side. I thought you would never talk to me again!"
"Silly girl, how could that be! Don't overthink it. Let Quentin accompany you for the prenatal check-up. I'll hang up now if there's nothing else." Ethan said lightly with a smile.
Lauren didn't tell Ethan that Quentin had already left. Since Ethan was busy, she didn't want to delay him further. So, she decided to handle the check-up alone, as she had often done before, thinking it was no big deal.
"Okay, you go ahead with your work. I'll hang up." Ethan hung up the phone and continued to drink alone. He couldn't share his troubles with anyone. He felt like the most miserable person in the world.
Ethan couldn't understand why Lauren, who was desperate with Quentin, would choose to forgive him again. Had she forgotten the pain Quentin had caused her? Could she really tolerate the idea of another woman having Quentin's child?
But all of this had nothing to do with him. After all, he was just an outsider to Lauren and Quentin...
"Damn it!" The sound of breaking glass came from the other side of the bar.
Soon after, a woman's loud scream followed, "Is this how you treat your customers! I've been here for over an hour. When will I get the rum I asked for!"
Ethan frowned, wondering why such a fiery-tempered woman was here, drinking in a bar in broad daylight like him?
Curiously, he glanced over and saw that the woman causing a scene was Wendy.
The bartender nervously approached to explain, "I'm really sorry, but the rum you wanted is sold out on the counter. Our bar's drinks are managed by the manager. It's only 3 o'clock in the afternoon. It's not the manager's working hours yet, so I can't get you the drink."
"Don't give me those useless excuses. The customer is God. I want to drink rum now. By any means necessary, you must get it for me. I'm in a bad mood today. If you keep talking nonsense, I'll smash this place!" Wendy's wild nature was fully exposed, like a shrew cursing in the street.
"Madam, could you please wait a moment? I'll go figure something out right now." The bartender could only try to appease Wendy.
Angry, Wendy sat down. There were already several empty bottles of strong liquor in front of her. Ethan's attention was drawn to her unusual behavior.
Although Lauren had told him that Wendy was pregnant with Quentin's child, he couldn't see Wendy as a pregnant woman at all!
Moreover, in the early stages of pregnancy, smoking, drinking, and unstable emotions were all to be avoided. Wendy's every demand broke those rules. Could it be that she wasn't pregnant?
Until this idea was confirmed, everything was just Ethan's speculation. But a man's intuition told him that his thoughts were not wrong. To be on the safe side, Ethan immediately dialed a number to investigate Wendy thoroughly.
The White family in City A was also a prominent and influential family, so Ethan effortlessly obtained all the information about Wendy, including the fake ultrasound and various test reports.
Ethan was surprised by this news. He didn't expect Wendy to be so audacious, daring to use a fake pregnancy to drive Lauren away. With Quentin's capabilities, he was sure that Quentin must have known about this too.
But why did Quentin show mercy to Wendy multiple times? Ethan couldn't understand.
Now the more pressing issue for him was whether to tell Lauren about this. If he did, the misunderstanding between Lauren and Quentin would surely be cleared up. Finally he would truly have no hope.
