Chapter 383 Quentin's Choice
When Lauren returned after buying the fish, Noah had already left, and Quentin had reverted to his amnesiac state. He picked up the book he had been reading earlier and pretended to read it.
"I bought a huge fish, enough for you to eat to your heart's content!" Lauren lifted the heavy plastic bag, seemingly seeking praise from Quentin.
"Then I must eat a lot," Quentin said with a smile that made Lauren's heart race.
Lauren couldn't help but scold herself for acting like a lovestruck teenager. She had been looking at Quentin's face for years, yet she still couldn't stop her heart from beating faster.
"I'm going to make fish soup." Afraid that Quentin would notice her shyness, Lauren threw out this sentence and hid in the kitchen.
The smile on Quentin's face disappeared, and the events that had just occurred replayed in his mind.
"No way!" Noah exclaimed, but considering they were in a hospital, he controlled the volume of his voice.
"Why haven't you mentioned Gregory before? And I've never seen him before," Noah asked, recalling carefully before adding, "I've never even heard Jessica mention him."
Quentin took a deep breath and exhaled, his eyes turning a bit sorrowful. He said, "Gregory was abandoned by my mom. Even my grandmother probably doesn't know."
"So he's seeking revenge now?" Noah frowned.
Noah wasn't affected by Gregory's tragic past; instead, he became more serious. Men were more rational than women in such situations, which was why Quentin didn't want to tell Lauren the truth.
Recalling what happened at the Cloud Group, Quentin replied, "He's just doing what he wants to do. He's right; the entire Robinson Conglomerate owes him."
"So you're planning to give him the Robinson Conglomerate?" Noah's eyebrows furrowed, fearing to hear an affirmative answer.
"For now, it's the best way to compensate him," Quentin said calmly. Seeing Noah's incredulous look, he continued, "I'll find a better way in the future. So, for now, please continue to maintain the operation of the Robinson Conglomerate with the other employees. I trust Gregory; he shouldn't completely destroy the Robinson Conglomerate."
"Let's hope so," Noah said with a bitter smile, realizing he would be very busy in the coming days.
Quentin said, "One more thing, don't tell Sophia. It's not that I don't trust her, but..."
"I understand," Noah interrupted Quentin. "She doesn't know how to face you and Lauren, which is why she didn't come today."
At this point in his recollection, Lauren came out with a plate of vegetable salad.
The aroma was not as good as the fish soup, but it was much better than five years ago.
Quentin was very satisfied, but unfortunately, he couldn't express it now.
"The fish soup is still simmering; it will take some time," Lauren explained, seeing Quentin staring at her. "So I made something else first. Don't you like it?"
"No," Quentin shook his head. How could he not like it? Putting everything else aside, he felt like the happiest person in the world right now.
His beloved Lauren was right by his side. What could be more joyful than that?
"That's good," Lauren sighed in relief. She had been genuinely worried that Quentin wouldn't like it, especially since he had disliked her vegetable salad before his amnesia.
She even remembered how Quentin had walked into the kitchen with a look of disdain and made the vegetable salad look high-end.
"I'm done reading," Quentin suddenly said.
"What?" Lauren was a bit confused, then saw Quentin raise the book in his hand. "Do you want to read something else? I can go home and get it for you later."
Quentin's villa had a dedicated study, with bookshelves filled with all kinds of books.
Lauren liked the book Quentin was holding because, without a phone or TV to watch, she had brought it to him to pass the time.
"Whatever you choose," Quentin said. He had already read all the books in that study; otherwise, he wouldn't have achieved such great success.
"But I don't know what kind of books you like," Lauren said, lowering her head, feeling very conflicted.
She had been Quentin's wife for seven years, yet she still didn't really understand him. She suddenly felt a bit inadequate.
"Whatever you like is fine," Quentin replied. Like Lauren, he didn't know much about her either. He didn't even know her favorite color or hobbies.
They were supposed to be the closest people to each other, yet compared to other couples, they were like strangers.
They should take this opportunity to get to know each other better.
Lauren and Quentin thought simultaneously.
"Alright," Lauren nodded and agreed with a smile.
"Quentin!" The voice was accompanied by a crying Odette.
"Quentin, I asked the doctor about your condition. He said you have amnesia, but I don't believe it! Quentin, how could you forget me?" Odette knelt by Quentin's bed, pressing his hand to her face, completely ignoring Lauren's dark expression.
She had originally come to check on Quentin's injuries but unexpectedly learned about his amnesia. This was a perfect opportunity for her.
Men like young girls. As long as Quentin forgot about Lauren, she would have a chance to become Quentin's wife!
"Who is she?" Quentin withdrew his hand in disgust and asked, deliberately directing the question to Lauren instead of Odette.
He wanted to hear how Lauren would introduce Odette.
Odette said, "Quentin, don't you remember me? I am..."
"I wasn't asking you," Quentin interrupted Odette's self-introduction.
Lauren was stunned, pursed her lips, hesitated for a while, and then said, "Her name is Odette. She's your lover."
Quentin frowned and said something that broke Odette's heart. "You must be joking. I don't feel anything for this person."
"Impossible," Odette's eyes widened, as if under a spell, muttering the words repeatedly.
Seeing Odette like this, Lauren felt a bit sympathetic and said, "Quentin has amnesia; he doesn't remember many people."
She wanted to comfort Odette, but Odette didn't appreciate it. Hearing her words, Odette focused her gaze on Lauren, her sweet face turning hideous and terrifying. She spat out crazy words. "Lauren, did you cast a spell on Quentin while I was away, filling his head with bad ideas? Are you trying to keep Quentin through despicable means? You are so crazy! If you know you can't keep him, then give him back to me!"
As she spoke, Odette started crying, but neither Quentin nor Lauren would sympathize with her for those cheap tears.
