Chapter 230 The Argument Escalates
Jessica saw Quentin come in and quickly wiped away her tears. She didn't want to deepen the misunderstanding between Quentin and Lauren further.
However, it was too late. Quentin, looking worried, strode over and forcefully pushed Lauren aside from where she was standing next to Jessica. He hurriedly helped Jessica lie down.
After settling with Jessica, Quentin said coldly, "Are you here to visit Grandma or to cause her trouble? If you have something to say, say it to me."
Lauren looked at Quentin with disdain. "I have nothing to say to you."
Quentin was frustrated. He didn't know what he had done to offend her again.
Quentin said, "If you have any respect for Grandma, don't disturb her. Don't let her years of love for you go to waste."
Jessica quickly spoke up for Lauren, "Quentin, please stop arguing with Lauren. It's not a big deal. I was just thinking about the past and got a bit emotional."
Quentin looked at Jessica suspiciously, but he could only sigh helplessly. He had no idea what Lauren had said to Jessica in this room. However, since Jessica didn't want him to know, he decided to play dumb.
Lauren scoffed at Quentin's words, then turned to Jessica and said seriously, "Grandma, please think it over again. If there were another way, I wouldn't have come to this."
"Lauren, alright. I'll think about it carefully," Jessica said, her voice full of sadness.
Quentin stared at Jessica. Lauren and Jessica were talking in riddles right in front of him, driving him crazy.
"Thank you, Grandma. I'll leave now. Take care of yourself, and please forgive my rashness," Lauren said, lowering her eyes. After speaking, she walked away without looking back.
Seeing Jessica's pale face, Quentin couldn't help but ask, "Grandma, what did she say to you?"
Jessica closed her eyes, unwilling to answer, "It's nothing important. I'm tired. You should leave, too."
Seeing Jessica's exhausted expression, Quentin wisely decided to leave. He closed Jessica's door and hurriedly chased after Lauren.
He shouted, "Lauren, stop right there!"
Lauren heard Quentin's voice but chose to ignore it, continuing to walk away. Quentin got even angrier.
He was furious. "Hey, I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?"
Then, Quentin ran ahead of Lauren and blocked her path.
Lauren sneered. "Quentin, what else do you have to say?"
Quentin asked, "Do you have to be so sharp-tongued?"
Quentin tried to suppress his anger, thinking to himself, 'Lauren really has a knack for making me mad.'
"I told you I have nothing to say to someone like you. If you want to play dirty, just go ahead. Don't hold back and disgust me," Lauren continued sarcastically, not giving Quentin any dignity.
Quentin was annoyed. "You're still as ungrateful as ever. Fine, I don't want to deal with you either. If it weren't for Matthew, I wouldn't even bother talking to you."
At the mention of Matthew, Lauren's gaze towards Quentin became even fiercer. 'How shameless of Quentin to bring up Matthew now! Claiming it was for Matthew's sake is laughable!'
However, Lauren didn't voice these thoughts in front of Quentin. Instead, she watched Quentin's performance with a mocking attitude.
Lauren's smile made Quentin mistakenly believe she was no longer giving him trouble, so he felt pleased and took something out of his pocket, placing it in front of Lauren.
What Quentin took out was Matthew's admission letter. He had carefully selected the best school after thorough research.
As the CEO of the Robinson Conglomerate, his abilities were not just for show. He had easily solved Matthew's schooling problem.
Quentin remained silent but watched Lauren's reaction to the admission letter without batting an eye.
In his mind, he fantasized, 'Since Ethan couldn't solve the problem, I have done it first. Now, I could show off in front of Lauren. She would be happy to take the letter and thank me sweetly. If not, at least she would give me a smile.'
However, all of Quentin's beautiful fantasies shattered the moment Lauren grabbed the letter and tore it to pieces.
"What are you doing?" Quentin roared.
Seeing the torn letter, Quentin couldn't hold back anymore. He shouted angrily, but Lauren showed no fear. Instead, she looked at him mockingly.
"Is this fun for you, Quentin? Do you think it's amusing to play everyone like fools?" Lauren said coldly.
If she hadn't known the inside story of Ethan's failure to get Matthew enrolled, she might have been fooled by Quentin again! This despicable Quentin had the nerve to bring an admission letter to her for credit. It was ridiculous!
"You're provoking me! What right do you have to tear up the admission letter I prepared for Matthew?" Quentin glared at Lauren, wishing he could tear her apart.
Lauren responded sharply, "Matthew will never accept an admission letter obtained through your dirty tricks! Even if Matthew never goes to school, we won't accept your charity. I know you want to regain custody of Matthew, but if you think you can use your power to tempt him, let me tell you, you're mistaken. You'll never get Matthew as long as I'm here!"
"You think too highly of yourself! I've never tried to tempt anyone. If you're so capable, why did you pursue me six years ago? If you're so noble, why did you climb into my bed? You look down on me, but take a good look at yourself. We're exactly the same," Quentin retorted coldly, driven to say hurtful things by Lauren's provocation.
Sure enough, Lauren's strength crumbled under Quentin's words. He knew her well and knew what she cared about most.
Lauren smiled bitterly. In the end, she and the insidious Quentin were the same. She had no right to accuse him of being deceitful.
"Fine, you're always right. I have nothing to say. I just beg you, please don't use such insidious means against me anymore. With your power, you could easily kill me, like crushing a bug," Lauren said, her face pale and her body trembling.
Quentin looked at Lauren coldly, his words as icy as if they had just come out of a freezer.
He said, "I don't give a shit about your life!"
