Chapter 404 Quentin's Concern

"Vent?" Lauren raised an eyebrow, her mood darkening.

She felt a surge of irritation but quickly pushed it down. She had no right to be upset.

Quentin was free to see whoever he wanted; it had nothing to do with her.

She had no relationship with Quentin and didn't want any connection with him.

"Yeah, apparently he even told Ms. Foster not to bring any clothes because he'd buy her new ones," the maid added from outside the door, clearly trying to stir the pot.

Odette had tasked her with angering Lauren.

Women were naturally jealous creatures, and the maid believed the best way to provoke Lauren was to make her jealous.

After all, Odette had told her that Lauren was a petty, jealous woman.

Being Odette's person, she had no reason to doubt her words.

Unfortunately, she didn't know that Lauren had long given up her obsession with Quentin. She could now rationally handle anything related to him.

"Miss Walker, don't be upset. Men are always looking for something new. Maybe Mr. Landon's interest in someone else is just a phase. Don't blame him. He even invited Ms. Foster to cook for you today!" the maid lied.

Lauren frowned.

Good thing she hadn't eaten it. If she had, she might have thrown up. Who could guarantee the food wasn't poisoned?

Lauren's mood plummeted.

She could rationally deal with Quentin because she still loved him, but that didn't mean she could handle her rival, Odette, the same way.

Especially since Odette had once kidnapped her and nearly had her assaulted.

"Tell Quentin there's no need for this. Whatever Odette makes, he can enjoy it alone. I have no interest," Lauren said coldly.

The maid smirked outside the door.

As a fellow woman, she could hear the anger in Lauren's voice. She mistakenly thought it was jealousy.

'Such a foolish woman!' the maid thought, deciding to continue her task.

"Miss. Walker, I think Ms. Foster is quite nice. Mr. Landon has his reasons for liking her. If you truly care about him, you should let go."

Lauren finally sensed something was off.

Why had this maid been talking about Odette and Quentin as a couple from the start?

"I understand," Lauren replied, deciding to ignore the maid outside the door. "I need to rest. Don't disturb me."

The maid didn't realize she had aroused Lauren's suspicion. She left with a parting shot, "Take care of yourself."

Lauren's eyebrows furrowed deeply.

She might not want any relationship with Quentin, but that didn't mean a mere maid could speak to her like that in his house.

Lauren decided to have a serious talk with Quentin.

She planned to lie, saying she was no longer interested in him, and ask him to stop humiliating her.

It was unnecessary.

She placed a note with the words "Let's talk" in front of the surveillance camera.

She didn't know when Quentin would see it or if he would respond as she hoped, calmly discussing things with her.

Fortunately, Quentin saw it and did as Lauren hoped.

Maybe it was the unspoken connection between lovers.

"What do you want to talk about?"

After a few minutes of staring at each other, Quentin spoke.

"About your misunderstanding of me. I think I need to explain," Lauren said calmly, her expression giving nothing away.

"What misunderstanding?" Quentin asked.

What could he possibly misunderstand about Lauren? Was she going to say she didn't like Gregory?

He hoped so, but Lauren's previous behavior had clearly said, "I like Gregory."

"I don't like you anymore," Lauren's tone remained unchanged.

But no one knew, except her, how much it hurt to say that lie, as if someone had torn open a wound, and now blood was seeping out, turning into her tears.

Quentin was angered by her calmness, missing the tears in her eyes.

"Miss Walker, you sure forget old loves quickly when you find new ones," Quentin sneered. "So, are you saying this to ask me to let you go?"

"Let me tell you, that's not happening."

He had even personally made her favorite food.

Quentin felt his kindness was wasted again, the first time being with Gregory.

"If you won't let me go, why did your maid say those things?" Lauren's voice trembled.

Why was Quentin always so unreasonable? She had said she didn't love him anymore, so why did he keep tormenting her? Why did someone tell her they had no future?

She already knew that! But why did Quentin keep reminding her?

He had already hurt her deeply, so why wouldn't he stop?

Did he want to destroy her?

"What things?" Quentin narrowed his eyes, sensing something was wrong.

Lauren wouldn't seek him out for no reason. She probably didn't even want to see him, and she wasn't one to lie.

Someone must have said something to her.

Like the maid she mentioned.

"Are you playing dumb?" Lauren laughed bitterly.

She should have known Quentin wouldn't admit it. She was foolish to think she could talk to such a cowardly man.

"Lauren, you'd better explain what you just said," Quentin's gaze sharpened, not at Lauren, but at the person who had exacerbated their misunderstanding.

He wouldn't let that person off.

"Quentin, do you dare admit what you've done!" Lauren couldn't hold back anymore.

"Is it fun to toy with people? Does treating others like fools make you happy? You wanted me to explain, fine, I'll tell you."

"Your maid said you and Odette are true love, and I should let go!"
