Chapter 60 Clearing Up Misunderstandings

Lauren's heart was stolen by the handsome and seemingly kind-hearted Quentin without her even realizing it.

The fiery young Lauren set Quentin as her future goal, fantasizing about becoming his wife. Should her dream come true, she'd wake up from her sleep with a smile.

Despite being two strangers with no prior interaction, a single chance meeting had Lauren's longing for Quentin spiraling out of control. She didn't believe in love at first sight, yet it happened to her, and she couldn't deny it.

Thus, Lauren set out to learn everything about Quentin; his aloofness, and his indifference, all appeared as virtues in her eyes. She believed that beneath his cold exterior lay a tender heart that simply hadn't encountered the right person to ignite his passion—and she was convinced she was that person for him. She was confident she could be the one to bring change to Quentin.

But fate can be cruel. Lauren became his wife, yet her life was not as blissful as she had imagined.

Whether one called her foolish or infatuated, Lauren never regretted her choices, remaining optimistic and striving to live life to the fullest.

"Quentin, there's something I'd like to ask you if that's okay?" Lauren recalled Hannah's instructions and mustered the courage to speak up.

Quentin was in a good mood, reminiscing about the past with Lauren.

"Hmm."

"On the Dowager's birthday, did you... did you really stay over with Wendy..." Lauren looked steadily at Quentin, seeking the truth in his eyes.

Quentin was surprised by her naivety, but he responded patiently, "No, I merely saw them home."

This explanation should have been offered days ago, but the opportunity had always slipped by.

Lauren was overjoyed, feeling certain from Quentin's gaze and words that he wasn't lying, and there was no reason for him to lie, to begin with.

"Oh!" Lauren replied cheerfully.

Quentin gave an indulgent smile, amused by how easily she was pleased. Was his wife really that simple to comfort?

"So, what exactly is your relationship with Wendy?" Lauren continued to inquire.
Quentin's smile faded, and Lauren thought he might become angry. She faced him bravely, ready for whatever might come. If he didn't answer, it meant he was still hiding something. How could they possibly start over if that were the case?

Quentin, however, addressed the issue seriously, "Lauren, I've never had anything with Wendy. What are you suspecting? Or did you find out something?"

"I'm not suspecting anything," Lauren said with a helpless shrug, "It's just that you two are headline news every day. I can't help but hear about it!"

"Oh, so you heard something you wish you hadn't, and it's troubling you?" Quentin asked.

Lauren rolled her eyes, unable to stop herself. Quentin always had a knack for twisting her words.

"You agreed to let me keep the child. I don't want our issues to affect them later on. We better clear things up now, don't we?" Lauren met Quentin's piercing gaze without wavering.

"Fine," Quentin replied. Lauren couldn't quite grasp the meaning behind his response. Was he agreeing with her, or was it a sarcastic remark about her nosing into his business?

Whatever he meant, Lauren had achieved what she wanted, and she knew life at the villa would be much easier from then on.

They returned to the villa leisurely. The butler's eyes widened in surprise as he'd never expected to see Quentin voluntarily carry a lady's bags or hold the door open.

"Madam is back!" the butler greeted Lauren cheerfully.

"Yes, Uncle Robinson, long time no see," Lauren replied with a smile.

"Let me take your bag, Madam," the butler offered, taking Lauren's backpack from her.

He had been worried, thinking Quentin had kicked Lauren out. Now, seeing Quentin returning with her, could this mean they had made up?

"Uncle Robinson," Quentin instructed, "make sure the servants are more attentive from now on."

Confused about Quentin's comment, the butler wondered if the staff had previously fallen short of expectations—something for which he felt responsible.

Noticing the butler's concerned expression, Lauren kindly clarified for him.

Blushing, she announced, "Uncle Robinson, I'm pregnant."
The butler's mouth formed an ‘O’ shape. "Pregnant? Madam, are you... really? Oh, that's wonderful, wonderful!"

His reaction was a bit too much, and Quentin felt a twinge of displeasure. After all, Quentin was the father, and when he had found out, he merely furrowed his brow. By comparison, the butler's excitement seemed a bit over the top, didn't it?

Catching Quentin's look, the butler quickly toned it down. He was genuinely thrilled for Lauren and Quentin.

Lauren blushed and nodded shyly, feeling genuinely happy with the butler's reaction, as it showed he truly cared for her.

"Alright, you can go rest in your quarters," Quentin, the head of the household, spoke again.

The butler gave Lauren an encouraging gesture and then silently excused himself. Meanwhile, Lauren playfully made a face behind Quentin's back, only to be caught in the act as he suddenly turned around.

Her face turned red-hot, and she desperately wanted to laugh but dared not; she held it in so hard she nearly hurt herself.

This was the first time Quentin saw Lauren like this, and he gazed at her with a clear-eyed look, even patting her back considerately.

"Is that how a future mom behaves?" His voice was questioning, his words cool but laced with concern.

"Cough, cough, and what about the aloof future dad!?" Lauren turned the tables on Quentin.

Caught off guard, Quentin gave Lauren a second look. Good, really good; her sharp tongue and fierce spirit reminded him of a wild little animal, but no matter how fierce, wasn't she still caught and brought back home by him?

The Robinson family villa finally had a touch of ‘home’ about it. Lauren, touching her growing belly, was filled with expectations for the baby.

She wondered if Quentin was looking forward to the baby too, or if he was as anxious as she was. These were thoughts Lauren entertained in her leisure moments.

But Quentin was a reserved man, and she dared not ask him such questions.

Ever since Lauren returned to the villa, Quentin made it a point to come home every day. It seemed like Lauren was finally living a normal life, waiting for Quentin to finish work, sharing meals with him, and spending the evenings in the living room watching TV. To an outsider, they truly appeared to be a loving couple.
