Chapter 320 Unfounded Accusations

The investigation results came in fast. Listening to the report, Quentin became angry.

He sneered to himself, 'Ruby, you've got some nerve.'

Quentin printed out the investigation results from his email and left the hotel with them.

After Lauren and Matthew got home, they had a long talk, including about Quentin's engagement.

"Matthew, don't you want both your dad and me to be happy?" Lauren asked him directly this time.

After everything they'd been through, she figured Matthew would get where she was coming from.

Matthew nodded, "Of course, I want you and Daddy to be happy together."

Lauren's smile got a bit strained at his words. "Matthew, listen. Your dad and I have split up, and we each have our own lives now. Since your Daddy's found his happiness, shouldn't we support him and wish him well?"

"No," Matthew shook his head. He was almost convinced by Lauren, but his belief held strong. "Mommy, Daddy should be with us. We're a family. The teacher said families should stick together."

Lauren felt awkward. Usually, Matthew would go along with whatever she said, except for this.

Knowing how stubborn Matthew could be, Lauren realized she couldn't change his mind with just a few words, so she quickly switched topics.

"But Matthew, today was too dangerous. You can't skip school again, and you can't go to dangerous places alone. Before you go anywhere, you have to let me know, or I'll be really worried," Lauren said, still shaken by what happened with the Obsidian Gang.

Matthew saw how tired and scared Lauren looked. "Mommy, I understand. I'll be good."

Lauren hugged Matthew, relieved. All she wanted was for him to grow up healthy and happy.

Just then, there was a rapid knock on the door. After the recent kidnapping incident with Brent, Lauren had become very cautious. She looked through the peephole and saw it was Ethan, which made her feel relieved.

But she didn't notice Ethan's furious expression. He had found out about Lauren and Matthew's kidnapping, and more importantly, that Quentin had saved them. Ethan was livid and rushed over without thinking.

Once inside, Ethan's anger exploded.

"Lauren, what do you take me for?" Ethan's question made the atmosphere tense immediately.

Lauren was stunned by Ethan's sudden outburst. She was still scared from the recent ordeal, and now facing an angry Ethan made her very uncomfortable. She frowned.

Seeing her expression, Ethan thought her silence meant she couldn't deny it, which made him even angrier. "Where did you go today? Who were you with?"

Lauren was completely disappointed by Ethan's cold attitude. "Are you interrogating me now?"

"Interrogate you? Didn't you already dump me? What right do I have to question you? You wanted to break up with me and be with Quentin, didn't you? Today, you ruined his engagement ceremony. Don't think I can't figure out what you're thinking!" Ethan, dropping his usual gentlemanly demeanor, started yelling at Lauren.

Lauren couldn't stand it, looking at the furious Ethan with disappointment and disgust. "I don't think I owe you an explanation, but since you're accusing me, I'll tell you the truth. Today, I was kidnapped by the Obsidian Gang. Quentin saved Matthew and me for Matthew's sake and brought us back without any ulterior motives. We have no other relationship. Believe it or not, that's the truth!"

"The truth?" Ethan found it laughable. "Then, why did you want to break up just before our wedding? Why can you accept him without any bottom line but not me? Do you think you're being fair to me?"

Ethan, almost pounding his chest in anger, accused Lauren through gritted teeth.

Facing Ethan's accusations, Lauren felt too emotionally drained to argue. The Ethan in front of her seemed like a stranger. His angry demeanor was so frightening, and his determined expression left her no room to explain.

Lauren looked at Ethan with a bitter smile, replying, "Since you think that way, I have nothing more to say."

However, Ethan didn't notice Lauren's disappointment. Instead, he felt justified, thinking he had hit the nail on the head. "You're feeling guilty, right? I never thought you, whom I've loved for so many years, had no self-respect at all. How am I supposed to feel?"

Jealousy was such a terrifying emotion. It turned the once polite and gentle Ethan into someone so repulsive. Lauren only felt the cruelty of the world. The Ethan she thought she knew best ended up belittling her like this.

"Ethan, the reason I ended our engagement was because of your family's opposition. Your family came to me and accused me of being a loose woman. I didn't want to cause you any trouble, but in the end, it was all just my wishful thinking. Fine, I've wronged you these past few years. I won't argue with you over a few harsh words. But from today on, we have nothing to do with each other. Please leave!" Lauren coldly revealed the truth she had been hiding.

She had hidden the fact that Ethan's mother had come to cause trouble because she genuinely wanted to share Ethan's burden, but she never expected this outcome.

Did the world only bully kind people? Otherwise, why would her good intentions be rejected and turned into words that crushed her?

Ethan was shocked by Lauren's words and took a few steps back, clearly in disbelief. "No, it can't be. My parents may not like you, but they wouldn't do such a thing."

Lauren smiled brightly at him, "So, this proves that we are not right for each other. Ethan, I sincerely hope you find your happiness. Please don't waste any more time on me."

Ethan's lips moved weakly. Her words shocked him, and he didn't know what to say. He even doubted whether Lauren was telling the truth.

He was at a loss, "Lauren, if this is true, I will give you an explanation."

Lauren sneered, "Ethan, I don't need your explanation. We are truly over."

Ethan felt a deep bitterness in his heart. The only thing he could do now was to go home and find out the truth. So he apologized and left Lauren's place.
