Chapter 79 First Time Doing Chores
It was the weekend, but for Lauren, weekends were no different. But for Quentin, it was different. While his body was reluctantly working in the president's office of the Robinson Conglomerate, his heart was always at the rental house. Finally, when the weekend arrived, he couldn't wait to see Lauren.
This time, Quentin behaved himself. He knew that pregnant women needed more rest, so he waited outside Lauren's house until 8 in the morning before knocking on the door.
Lauren was making breakfast when she heard the knock and quickly went to open the door.
Seeing Quentin again, Lauren hid her joy and calmly said, "Come in."
Quentin stole a glance at Lauren and saw that she looked well. He had planned today's arrangements before coming. It seemed like everything could proceed smoothly.
Quentin entered and went straight to the dining table to sit down. Lauren admired how he didn't treat himself as an outsider at all. She had never imagined that the usually high and mighty the CEO Quentin would be so shameless.
"Mr. Robinson, have you had breakfast?" Lauren smiled as she looked at Quentin, assessing the meager food on the plate. It seemed insufficient for two people.
"Not yet," Quentin replied flatly, but his meaning was crystal clear.
As a CEO with his own mansion, servants, and a personal chef. Why would he compete for food with her? Lauren pitifully brought the plate closer, not because she wanted to eat alone, but because she hadn't expected Quentin to come over. Otherwise, she would have prepared more!
Lauren turned to serve the food. Quentin frowned at the few pieces of vegetables on the plate.
‘Is this what you eat for breakfast?’ he asked, clearly unimpressed. Lauren thought to herself that he must look down on this.
"What's wrong?" Lauren replied patiently.
Upon hearing Lauren's response, Quentin was exasperated. How could a pregnant woman settle for such a simple breakfast? No wonder she seemed thinner every time he saw her.
"You need to eat well for breakfast. How can these vegetarian dishes provide you with enough nutrition?" Quentin looked at Lauren sternly.
Taken aback, Lauren retorted, "Who says vegetarian food lacks nutrition? Meals need to be balanced, or else I'll end up overweight."
"Take it seriously. With your current state, becoming overweight would be quite an achievement for you," Quentin retorted.
Lauren pursed her lips. Quentin's ability to retort was indeed formidable. Grateful for Quentin's concern, she obediently complied and refrained from arguing further.
"I know you're used to gourmet food and may not appreciate these simple dishes. But considering the time, why not just make do and eat something?" Lauren playfully persuaded Quentin, feeling famished and in need of energy.
Quentin watched Lauren with a hint of amusement as she eyed the food on the table like a hungry wolf, refusing to let go. He couldn't help but wonder if these few vegetables held such great allure for her. He picked up the chopsticks, ate a couple of cucumber slices symbolically, and then sipped the white fungus soup.
Lauren smiled knowingly. "Not bad, right?" Her expression resembled that of a child awaiting praise, softening Quentin's heart.
"It's acceptable."
"I told you. Alright, I'll start eating too!" Lauren said, digging in heartily.
Seeing the genuine Lauren, Quentin's mood lifted, feeling content.
After the meal, Quentin sat on the sofa and remained motionless.
Naturally, Lauren didn't expect him to help with the dishes or any household chores.
After washing the dishes, Lauren picked up the mop to start cleaning the floor. Seeing this, Quentin immediately snatched the mop from her. His sharp gaze fixed on her.
"What are you doing?!" he asked.
"Mopping the floor," Lauren replied casually.
‘Does this young master not even know how to mop?’ she wondered.
Quentin was speechless, wondering what was going on in Lauren's mind.
"Of course, I know you're mopping the floor. Lauren, you need to understand that you are five months pregnant. You shouldn't be doing such strenuous tasks," Quentin said, exasperated.
Confused, Lauren responded, "Why not? I've been doing it for a long time. Nothing has happened, right?"
"Put it down and go back. After eating, you shouldn't engage in strenuous activities instead of taking a walk," Quentin said dominantly, taking the mop from her and pulling Lauren aside.
"It's okay. I can handle it. Don't treat me like a delicate lady," Lauren insisted.
Quentin, his eyes showing a cold and stern gaze, frightened Lauren, who quickly ran to sit down on the sofa. Quentin stood still with the mop for several seconds, his subsequent actions leaving Lauren utterly surprised.
Quentin awkwardly started mopping the floor, clearly doing it for the first time in his life. From head to toe, his movements were awkward.
"What are you doing, Quentin? Mopping isn't done like that. You have to mop backward." Lauren couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Shut up. I'll mop however I want," Quentin retorted, a faint blush appearing on his otherwise indifferent face, indicating his embarrassment.
Lauren stifled her laughter, watching Quentin finish ‘mopping’ the floor.
After finishing, Quentin spent a long time washing his hands and face in the bathroom before returning to the living room.
"Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Robinson," Lauren said with a smile.
Quentin turned his head to the side. "It's nothing."
Well, the awkward, self-reliant, and proud Quentin was truly himself.
Lauren wondered what she and Quentin could do while in the room. Just as she was thinking of something to ease the awkwardness, the doorbell rang again.
Lauren went to open the door. "Ethan? Why are you here too?" she asked.
Ethan looked at Lauren, smiling gently. "Oh? What does that mean? Could it be..."
Ethan walked in and saw Quentin sitting on the sofa with a dark expression. It was their first meeting. Although Quentin's name had been well-known to him before, the atmosphere between them was tense.
"Are you Quentin?" Ethan said with a smile, but a hint of danger in his tone.
Quentin stood up. "Do you know me? I'm sorry, but I don't know you."
Ethan had always opposed Lauren being with Quentin. To Lauren, the tension between the two men was palpable. She quickly ran to stand between them to defuse the situation.
"Ethan, let me formally introduce you. This is Quentin. Quentin, this is my good friend Ethan," Lauren said awkwardly, as the two men paid her no attention, their gazes clashing in the air.
