Chapter 403 Gregory's Past
"Looks like Mr. Walker's got a lot of free time these days," Quentin said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Gregory waved his hand dismissively. "Quentin, isn't it cause you took over Cloud Group that I'm left twiddling my thumbs?"
Gregory's smile stayed put, but Quentin could hear the bite in his words.
Quentin didn't give a damn about Gregory's attitude; he was here for a reason.
"Hand over Kimberly and Matthew, and I'll give you Cloud Group back," Quentin offered.
Gregory snorted. "Quentin, you must value that selfish woman and your pathetic son to trade my Cloud Group for them."
"I don't think you have a reason to say no," Quentin shot back.
He was right; Gregory had no real reason to refuse.
But hearing it from Quentin made Gregory hesitate, considering a rejection.
"Allow me to refuse," Gregory said, putting his thoughts into action.
"Why?" Quentin asked.
Gregory didn't rush to answer.
He signaled the young girl eavesdropping nearby to pour them some coffee.
Once the coffee arrived, Gregory leisurely explained his reason. "Because I don't want to make things easy for you."
'What a pain in the ass!' Quentin thought to himself.
"Then forget it," Quentin said, standing up.
If he could, he would avoid dealing with Gregory altogether.
The man was insufferable and deceitful.
"But I don't need Cloud Group. Give me Lauren, and I'll return your son," Gregory said, taking a sip of coffee.
His calm demeanor only made Quentin more irritated.
"That's impossible."
Mentioning Lauren worsened Quentin's mood.
Ever since he met Lauren, his patience had plummeted, and it was a steep decline.
He used to be much more composed.
"I want to know why," Gregory said, crossing his arms. "Lauren doesn't care about you anymore. Why are you clinging to her?"
"Whether she cares about me or not isn't for you to decide," Quentin replied, his gaze icy, causing the young girl pouring coffee to tremble.
"And you, Kimberly and Matthew, shouldn't be more important to you than Cloud Group. Why won't you trade?"
Quentin didn't believe Gregory was refusing simply because he didn't want to.
Quentin was right.
To Gregory, the most important thing was himself, followed by the Cloud Group. Kimberly and Matthew didn't even rank.
But Gregory had to be patient. He couldn't trade now.
Cloud Group was heavily affected by the current market downturn. He needed to use Quentin to help the Cloud Group through this crisis before making any trades.
He was never a simple man.
Owning Cloud Group wasn't just about his talent; it was also about his ability to manipulate people and his deep cunning.
"I already told you, because I don't want to," Gregory lied.
He couldn't possibly reveal the real reason to Quentin.
"By the way, have you tried anything with Lauren since you brought her back?" Gregory shifted the conversation, zeroing in on the person Quentin cared about most.
"What are you getting at?" Quentin's eyebrows furrowed deeply.
He had a feeling that whatever Gregory said next wouldn't sit well with him.
"I'm just curious, Quentin, how you can tolerate a woman who's been with someone else. Truly admirable," Gregory said smugly, aiming to provoke Quentin.
When Quentin lost his temper, he was easier to manipulate.
"Gregory, aren't you the same? You even got involved with a woman who had a kid with someone else. Are you supposed to be a germaphobe?" Quentin shot back sharply.
His words reminded Gregory of Lauren's tearful face, increasing his disdain for her.
But outwardly, he pretended to be infatuated. "After all, she's a charming woman. Even I couldn't resist wanting a taste. I have to say that she is amazing."
Gregory added the last sentence fearlessly, implying Quentin was being cuckolded, though Quentin didn't know the truth.
"Gregory, you have quite the taste. If you like married women so much, should I help you find a few at a nightclub?" Quentin's eyes seemed to blaze with anger.
"No need. I only like Lauren. If you're willing to give her to me, I'll give you all my assets," Gregory said with a smile.
He said this on purpose, knowing Quentin would never agree to such an unfair trade.
Unlike Gregory, Lauren was one of the top three most important people to Quentin, and the only one without a blood relation.
Even if Quentin agreed, Gregory wouldn't. He wouldn't abandon everything he had for a woman.
"In your dreams!" Quentin spat through gritted teeth, then turned and left without looking back.
Gregory called Odette to assign her the next task.
When Quentin returned home, Lauren still hadn't eaten anything, which annoyed him.
"Mr. Landon, Miss Walker threw away everything you made," the maid said regretfully.
From the initial soup and side dishes to the later desserts, Quentin had made them all himself.
Unfortunately, Lauren didn't know that. But even if she did, what difference would it make?
"Mr. Landon, should you try to persuade her to eat?" the maid asked.
"No, let her fend for herself," Quentin said coldly, heading to the surveillance room, not noticing the maid holding a recording pen behind her back.
The maid relayed Quentin's exact words to Lauren.
"Fend for myself?" Lauren laughed. She hadn't expected Quentin to persuade her to eat anyway.
Even if he did, she wouldn't eat.
If Quentin wouldn't let her go, then she'd starve herself to death.
"Miss Walker, don't be angry. Mr. Landon might be upset. He just called Ms. Foster to come over, probably to vent," the maid explained from outside the door, pretending to comfort Lauren while wearing a sinister smile.
She had long been bribed by Odette and would help her when necessary.
Like now.
