Chapter63 Wife Protection Plan

The study was quiet. Lauren and Quentin were both busy, not speaking, yet Lauren felt their hearts were close at this moment.

Lauren smiled faintly, feeling the happiest now. She stole a glance at Quentin, thinking how fortunate she was to have such an outstanding husband. If he truly loved her, she would have no regrets in this life.

"Focus on your work," Quentin said without looking up. He noticed all of Lauren's little gestures and felt proud because he knew her loving gaze was genuine.

Lauren quickly lowered her head, blushing as she typed on the keyboard. Caught in the act again!

In that moment of looking down, she missed the slight curve of Quentin's lips.

As time passed, Lauren diligently translated, but Quentin suddenly stopped her.

"That's enough for today," he said.

"I haven't finished translating this document," Lauren rubbed her eyes.

"Let's continue tomorrow."

"Alright." Lauren obeyed Quentin's instructions; after all, he was the boss. She felt warm inside, guessing that Quentin had stopped her early at 8 o'clock to ensure she rested, showing his care for her. Indeed, Quentin had exactly that intention as Lauren had thought.

After packing up, Lauren left the study and returned to the bedroom. Despite being married, they didn't sleep in the same room. Lauren found it strange that Quentin didn’t join her in the bedroom.

After getting ready for bed, Lauren lay there unable to sleep. She thought life could continue like this, but humans are greedy creatures, always having more demands and hopes. Lauren hoped to earn Quentin's love.

"My child, do you think Daddy will fall in love with Mommy? Regardless, Mommy will keep trying. You must cheer Mommy on!" Lauren affectionately spoke to the child in her belly, engaging in their daily conversation.

Unaware of Quentin's actions, Lauren continued to walk in the garden while Quentin worked. Later, a message on Quentin's phone brought a pleased expression to his face. Lauren, wait for this good news.

The next day, Quentin went to work as usual. While walking back for breakfast, Lauren overheard discussions about Wendy. She stopped Housekeeper Robinson to inquire about the situation.

"Madam, you might not know yet, but today's entertainment news reported that Wendy suddenly decided to go abroad for filming. It seems like the movie is quite popular, and she's leaving in five days," Housekeeper Robinson explained.

"Oh? Filming?" Lauren responded lightly. She found it peculiar, recalling Wendy's vow to never leave the country again, claiming there were more important matters domestically.

Initially, Lauren speculated Wendy's return was due to Quentin, but within a short month, Wendy contradicted herself.

"Madam, Wendy's departure indicates those past claims were false, so don't worry too much," Housekeeper Robinson comforted Lauren.

However, Lauren sensed things were more complex. She couldn't believe Wendy would abandon Quentin for a movie; there had to be hidden motives. Unfortunately, she had no way of knowing.

Unaware that Quentin orchestrated everything, he went to great lengths to ensure Lauren's peace of mind and well-being during her pregnancy. Quentin kept this from everyone except his childhood friend, Noah.

Noah, observing Quentin like a thief, remarked, "You've changed, Quentin. It's rare to see you so considerate. Looks like you've truly become a good man."

"It's hard to hear kind words from you."

"You've truly hurt me with that remark. Well, you've hurt me, and I can't guarantee I'll continue keeping your secrets," Noah ‘threatened.’

Unfazed, Quentin believed Noah was merely venting. Despite Noah's complaints, Quentin knew Lauren's submissive nature was remarkable.

"Are your tasks completed? Is the plan ready?" Quentin asked sternly.

"Of course, here you go." Noah handed Quentin a USB drive, continuing his banter.

"Quentin, are you under your wife's thumb? You're a grown man, why fear your wife? I just can't understand," Noah prodded.

Annoyed by Noah's comments, Quentin retorted, "Where do you see me being controlled by my wife?"

Moreover, with Lauren's submissive nature, managing him was quite a feat.

"Noah complained, "Moreover, you leave work on time every day to have dinner with your wife, skipping all social gatherings. Don't you think you're too relaxed for a CEO?" Quentin's lack of dedication was causing additional burdens to fall on Noah's shoulders. Whenever others asked about Quentin, Noah had to cover for him, living in constant unease.

Despite feeling uneasy, Noah endured as Quentin's loyal friend. However, Quentin, not content with the status quo, sought to impose further demands on Noah.

"You've just reminded me. Wendy's farewell event is in four days, and you're going in my place," Quentin stated calmly.

This time, Noah was truly agitated. "Quentin, Wendy invited you, not me. I have no interest in attending. Her farewell will attract media attention, and I don't want the spotlight. I won't go!"

"Do you think it's appropriate for me to go?" Quentin inquired.

After some thought, Noah realized Quentin's attendance wasn't suitable. As a family man with a pregnant wife, Quentin needed to be cautious. Despite this, the thought of mingling with the entertainment industry made Noah uneasy.

"Quentin, please don't push me on this. You know how easily influenced I am," Noah pleaded, looking at Quentin with a sense of resignation, as Quentin always seemed to have the upper hand.

With a sly smile, Quentin responded, "Just agree already. Alright, it's time to head home. Let's go!" Disregarding Noah's lingering uncertainty, Quentin gathered his things and left.
