Chapter 318 A Thorough Plan
Quentin's sudden change of heart left Brent totally floored.
He licked his dry lips and asked, "Are you for real?"
Quentin shrugged. "What else can I do? I'm on your turf now. Handling ten people is a piece of cake for me, but with all your guys here, I might not be able to manage alone."
A smug grin spread across Brent's face; Quentin's words were music to his ears. He waved his hand, signaling his men to bring over the pre-prepared stock transfer agreement.
"Didn't think you'd be so straightforward. Is there some other trap waiting for me?" Brent eyed Quentin suspiciously. Then, after a moment of serious thought, he added, "Sign this document now, and email all the executives and directors of Robinson Conglomerate, telling them you've transferred all your shares to me and that I'll be running the show from now on."
Quentin frowned and hesitated for a moment but eventually took the pen, signed the agreement and sent the email as Brent instructed.
Brent was thrilled. The once-dominant Quentin was now under his thumb. The thought of it filled him with pride.
Quentin, with a cold expression, sneered, "You've got what you wanted. I'll take these two and leave. Enjoy yourself; no need to see us off."
With that, Quentin started untying Lauren and Matthew, getting ready to leave.
Brent snorted, "Quentin, I want you to personally inform all the shareholders about this at tomorrow's meeting. Don't try any funny business."
Quentin responded coldly, his attitude still defiant.
Quentin's attitude ticked Brent off. Clearly, he was the hunter, and Quentin was the prey. Why was Quentin so smug? Suddenly, Brent remembered something and a smug smile reappeared on his face. "Mr. Robinson, I'm quite impressed that you can still live so freely. Do you know why I suddenly thought of inviting your ex-wife and son over? Everyone says you have a good eye, but do you know what kind of people are around you? Hahaha, you'd better keep your guard up, or you might never know what might happen."
Quentin noted Brent's cryptic words but acted like he didn't care. "Mr. Reynolds, you should focus on being a good president of Robinson Conglomerate."
With that, Quentin walked towards the door with Matthew in his arms. Lauren followed behind, lost in thought.
Outside, Lauren was at a loss. She looked at the setting sun, her heart heavy with sadness.
Matthew, possibly scared, had fallen asleep in Quentin's arms during the short walk.
"Get in the car, I'll take you back," Quentin's cold voice broke the silence.
Stiffening, she looked at Quentin, "No, it's okay, I can take a cab."
"Do you want Brent to blackmail me again?" Quentin shot back.
Hearing that, Lauren fell silent. Having just escaped from Brent's territory, the future was uncertain, and she shouldn't act tough.
"Thank you," Lauren said as she took the sleeping Matthew from Quentin's arms, her eyes filled with pain and guilt.
It was indeed her incompetence that caused Matthew to suffer with her; she wasn't a competent mother.
She looked up at Quentin, only to find that he didn't even glance at her and just got into the driver's seat.
He must be really fed up with her because she only caused him trouble and couldn't help at all.
Lauren got into the back seat with Matthew, and the car slowly started.
Seeing Quentin's cold face in the rearview mirror made Lauren feel uneasy. She could face death bravely just now, but now she didn't dare to face Quentin.
Quentin occasionally glanced at Lauren's expression through the mirror, realizing he couldn't be completely heartless towards her.
He cleared his throat lightly and then spoke coldly, "You don't need to feel indebted to me because I didn't agree to Brent for your sake."
Lauren nodded lightly. Even though Quentin said so, she still felt she owed him a favor this time.
Robinson Conglomerate was Quentin's entire life's work, and he actually gave it up.
"So, what are you planning to do next? Are you really willing to hand Robinson Conglomerate over to someone like Brent?" Lauren hesitated to ask.
Quentin was indifferent, "Brent is impulsive. He is unlikely to succeed. Back in the day, he used corporate espionage to suppress me. The consequences of the failure were his to bear. He may be somewhat smart, but he gets carried away easily. It's laughable that he fell into my trap without realizing it and is still smugly thinking he defeated me."
Quentin unintentionally revealed his plan to Lauren, who became excited upon hearing it.
Lauren asked, "What do you mean by that? Does the agreement Brent gave you not take away your shares?"
Seeing the light in Lauren's eyes, Quentin's mood improved unknowingly. He never intended to hide this from Lauren.
"Before coming here, I transferred all my shares to Noah and had it notarized. Although time was tight, everything went smoothly. Brent was too arrogant to continue monitoring me, which gave me this opportunity," Quentin's tone became proud, and he unknowingly became more relaxed in front of Lauren.
Quentin's words lifted the weight off Lauren's shoulders, and she silently breathed a sigh of relief. Her lips curled up involuntarily; she knew Quentin wouldn't fight an unprepared battle.
She had guessed that Quentin wasn't a heartless person, but hearing it from him made her uncontrollably excited.
"So you said that to trick Brent?" Lauren's eyes sparkled, as if countless pink hearts were popping out.
Quentin sneered and then pretended not to know, "What are you referring to?"
Lauren quickly lowered her head to look at Matthew in her arms. "Nothing. I was really afraid you'd give up everything to save us."
How could she talk about such a topic now? Even if Quentin didn't save her, she had no right to complain.
Quentin's body stiffened slightly upon hearing Lauren's words. Then he smiled bitterly, "Give up everything, so what? Have you ever cared about me even a little?"
After saying that, Quentin felt he was being foolish. Clearly, Lauren didn't want to be involved with him, yet he was still hung up on such trivial matters.
