Chapter 119 The Matters of Stalking
Quentin found his stay at the hospital quite comfortable, relishing in Lauren's attentive care. She fed him three meals a day, but he wasn't shy about it. His injured arm successfully compelled Lauren to do many things for him.
"Quentin, I think you've had enough. I can barely hold things together at the company. You have no idea how the board members keep hounding me, asking where you've gone. It's as if the world stops turning without you," Noah said, clasping his hands together, his head aching at the thought.
Quentin wanted to laugh. Noah looked like a plucked rooster, utterly defeated.
"Just tell them I've gone abroad on a business trip and won't be back for a month."
"You won't be back for a month? Oh my God, just kill me now. You've only injured an arm. Why are you staying in the hospital for a month? Are you doing this to make my life difficult?" Noah was in agony, on the verge of breaking down upon hearing Quentin's words.
Quentin was indifferent. "You've been too relaxed these past few years. It's time to give you some real responsibility. You better do well, or I'll give you even bigger tasks."
Noah glared at Quentin fiercely. He shouldn't have trusted Quentin and boarded the same ship. Now, it was too late for regrets.
"I get it. You're staying in the hospital to win Lauren's sympathy. Quentin, that's a clever move. You know Lauren is kind-hearted. By doing this, you're exploiting her weakness. I'm just curious: when do you become such a romantic?" Noah said.
Quentin cast Noah a faint glance. "I've always been."
Quentin's self-assured attitude left Noah feeling inferior.
"By the way, there's news about Wendy. She'll be sentenced to at least twenty years. Does that make you feel better?" Noah said, seeking credit. He had put in a lot of effort to get others to agree to extend Wendy's sentence.
Quentin's eyes lowered, but his gaze was sharp. "That's the consequence of overestimating oneself."
After Wendy had finally been punished, no one would dare threaten him or Lauren's safety again. He should have done this sooner. Delaying it had only become a burden on Lauren's mind.
At that moment, Noah's phone rang, likely with an urgent matter from the company. Noah cast a helpless look at Quentin, who ignored him, leaving Noah to fend for himself.
When walking in the garden, Lauren happened to meet Dr. Olivia, who was about to go on vacation. They chatted for a while.
"Lauren, you look well. Keep it up. It's good for the baby," Dr. Olivia said with a smile.
"Thanks to you for always taking care of me and monitoring my health," Lauren replied gratefully, sensing Dr. Olivia's kindness.
Dr. Olivia smiled but then grew serious. "It's my duty. By the way, the young man who confessed to you the other day asked for my help. Please don't be mad at me. I felt he was sincere, so I helped without much thought. Now, thinking back, I might have been wrong."
Lauren knew Dr. Olivia was talking about Ethan. Her smile faded. "It's okay. We're just friends, so I might have to disappoint him. Even though I'm divorced now, I'm not ready to accept a new relationship."
"It is my misunderstanding. I'm truly sorry." Dr. Olivia knew about Lauren's divorce and felt great sympathy for her, so she tried her best to help Lauren, only to end up complicating things.
"By the way, I remember something. After you had your 4D ultrasound, a colleague mentioned that a man specifically got the dean's approval to take your ultrasound information. Do you know who it is?" Dr. Olivia asked.
Lauren was taken aback. "No, I don't know!"
"That's strange. However, for someone to get the usually impartial dean to help, he must have some influence. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see this person. Otherwise, I could have described his appearance to you."
At this moment, Lauren already had an answer in her heart. Besides Quentin, no one else would investigate her so meticulously, especially in matters related to the child. She couldn't understand why Quentin would be so secretive. If he wanted to know about the child's condition, he had countless ways to find out. Why resort to stalking?
Although Lauren couldn't figure it out, this matter stirred her heart.
"Dr. Olivia, may I ask you something? How can you make someone who doesn't really like children suddenly start liking them? My friend is pregnant and about to give birth, but her husband doesn't seem to like children," Lauren asked.
Lauren was worried, never forgetting Quentin's cold suggestion to abort the child. This matter was like a thorn deeply embedded in her heart. Soon, the child would be born, and if they had a cold father, it would be quite sad.
So, Lauren wanted to consult a specialist, hoping the hospital could offer some advice.
Dr. Olivia found Lauren's question strange. "There are people who don't like children? It might be because he hasn't become a father yet. Once he truly becomes a father, his feelings will naturally change. You don't need to worry too much."
"But for some reason, this couple has been separated for a long time. Since the child is about to be born, she is a bit anxious," Lauren said, her face full of concern.
Dr. Olivia patted Lauren's shoulder. "Then you can tell your friend to talk more about the child with the father before the baby is born. Or they can prepare things needed for the baby's arrival together. These activities can help them feel more like parents."
Lauren nodded. She and Quentin had seen each other too little, with no chance to communicate or let him understand the baby's growth process. That was why she was so worried now.
"Also, suddenly becoming parents might be a difficult transition for some. Give him a bit more time. Seek help when needed and involve him in the pregnancy process. This can subtly help him accept his role as a father," Dr. Olivia continued.
Lauren suddenly understood. If Quentin were more involved, he might change.
"Thank you, Dr. Olivia. Since you're finally on vacation today, I won't disturb you any longer." Lauren already had an answer in her heart and couldn't wait to go back and make an effort.
Dr. Olivia nodded and then left the hospital to enjoy her well-deserved vacation.
