Chapter 401 Misunderstanding
"Why? Gregory, don't you like Lauren?" Kimberly was so anxious that she was practically stomping her feet. "I'm begging you, please go save Lauren, okay?"
"Begging me?" Gregory's smile grew even brighter. "Do you think you have the right? If you cared so much about her, why didn't you go yourself earlier?"
"Or is it because you're scared? Scared of offending Quentin, scared of the man who almost killed you? It seems Lauren's place in your heart isn't as important as your safety. So why are you begging me to save her?"
Gregory's words were chilling. He had no obligation to save Lauren. Even if he had a slight interest in her, it was only because of her status.
"Shut up!" Kimberly's face turned red, like a child whose lie had been exposed.
"Shut up? That wasn't your tone just now." Gregory's smile turned into a sneer.
Wasn't it because of this that Mrs. Robinson abandoned him all those years ago?
From the moment Gregory learned he had been abandoned by his mother, he understood the ugliness of human nature.
"Quentin, let me out!" Lauren shouted, locked in a room by Quentin.
The room had no windows, just a vent in the ceiling.
It was fully equipped with all the necessities, including a bathroom, and even had a surveillance camera in the corner.
This place was designed for imprisonment。
This was the conclusion Lauren reached after calming down and observing the room.
There was a small window on the wall that let light in, but unfortunately, Lauren couldn't escape through it. She was completely trapped.
She didn't have a phone, but there was a huge bookshelf filled with books by all her favorite authors.
After locking Lauren up, Quentin returned to the airport to pick up Matthew and bring him home.
As for Kimberly, he didn't want to deal with her anymore.
But Matthew and Kimberly were not at the airport.
"How is that possible?" Quentin searched the entire airport but couldn't find Matthew or Kimberly.
Quentin didn't believe Kimberly would abandon Lauren and take Matthew abroad alone. At least, Matthew wouldn't agree to it.
So where could they have gone?
Quentin thought of Gregory, who had also been there at the time.
Quentin had a suspect. He believed Gregory was capable of anything, especially after experiencing Gregory's betrayal.
Time rewound to shortly after Quentin left the airport with Lauren.
"Stop deceiving yourself. Women in this world are like that. For their own sake, they can even abandon their children," Gregory said, his eyes turning a bit sad.
"My mommy isn't like that!" Matthew retorted, "And neither is my grandma!"
Gregory finally noticed that Matthew was very unhappy.
"I don't know if your mommy is like that, but your grandma's hesitation just now said it all." Gregory squatted down to look Matthew in the eye.
But Matthew didn't want to meet his gaze, angrily turning his head away.
Kimberly, speechless from Gregory's accusations, didn't notice the person approaching behind her.
"Alright, Matthew, I'm sorry, I said the wrong thing. Can you forgive me?" Gregory's demeanor changed immediately when his subordinates arrived.
This change left Matthew a bit confused, and he could only nod dumbly.
"Matthew, do you listen to your mommy?" Gregory asked, his eyes gleaming with a hidden agenda.
Kimberly saw right through him.
She couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow for Lauren, who had the misfortune of encountering such despicable men.
But she was powerless to help. She had married the wrong man and now had nothing left but her own life and Matthew.
Maybe Gregory was right; in her heart, she was indeed more important than Lauren.
Not all mothers were willing to give up everything for their children. At least, she wasn't.
"Of course I do!" Matthew answered without hesitation. He was a good boy.
"Your mommy just said to leave you and your grandma with me and that man over there," Gregory said, pointing to the man behind Kimberly.
"Really?" Matthew was skeptical. "Why didn't mommy tell me?"
"Of course it's true. If you don't believe me, you can ask your grandma," Gregory said, feigning surprise.
His eyes, hidden behind glasses, carried a threat as he looked at Kimberly.
"Don't worry, I just want to invite you to visit, not to lock you up," Gregory said, patting Kimberly's shoulder. "And if you cooperate, I'll go save Lauren."
Kimberly was about to thank him when she felt the man behind her press a gun to her back.
She realized Gregory's words were just lies to deceive Matthew. She couldn't expose Gregory and could only nod, silently praying for Lauren to escape Quentin's grasp and come back to save them.
Of course, it would be even better if Lauren could convince Quentin to come back.
But Quentin returned, and they were taken away by Gregory.
Quentin found the airport surveillance footage.
Although there was no sound, seeing Kimberly and Matthew willingly follow Gregory out of the airport, he understood everything.
Gregory must have threatened Kimberly.
Quentin's first instinct was to call the police, but Kimberly and Matthew had left voluntarily. If the police got involved, Gregory could confidently let them investigate the footage.
Quentin frowned deeply. He should never have let Gregory go. He should have listened to Gregory and killed him.
"Noah, have someone follow Gregory," Quentin called.
He had to deal with the stock market crash caused by Gregory's betrayal, so finding Kimberly and Matthew was a task he could only entrust to his most trusted Noah.
Noah never let him down.
After leaving the airport, Quentin returned to the villa where Lauren was imprisoned.
He felt it was necessary to tell Lauren what a sinister person Gregory was.
Unfortunately, in Lauren's eyes, Gregory had taken Quentin's place. To her, Quentin's words were just slander against Gregory.
"Quentin, you're too much! Just because Gregory exposed you at the press conference, you have to talk about him like this?" Lauren said.
She thought Quentin had lost Kimberly and Matthew and was trying to shift the blame to Gregory to avoid her anger.
Quentin was confused by Lauren's words.
When he realized she had misunderstood him, Lauren thought his hesitation was him thinking of an excuse.
"What, Mr. Robinson has nothing to say?" Lauren retorted sharply.
Her attitude made Quentin a bit angry."Lauren, have you had enough?"
