Chapter 10 Blackmailing Elizabeth for Fifty Thousand Dollars
Elizabeth froze in place with anger.
Listening to Clara's insults, she wanted nothing more than to scratch Clara's face.
But she couldn't act impulsively.
Once a fight broke out, it would inevitably get intense, and Elizabeth was afraid of hurting the baby in her belly.
Elizabeth smiled and asked, "Are you really that interested in this kind of business?"
Clara snorted arrogantly, "I'm just worried about your health. Don't end up with a bunch of STDs and make our house filthy!"
Elizabeth retorted, "Then why did you invite me to your house and even keep me for dinner? I thought you were interested in that kind of business."
Elizabeth's words were calm, but they left the entire Guise family speechless.
No one noticed that at that moment, Alexander's cold eyes were radiating a chilling aura as he stared deeply at Elizabeth.
After a moment, he grabbed his keys and got up to leave.
"Alexander, are you angry?" Clara asked anxiously as she chased after him.
"If you keep associating with Elizabeth, I'll compensate you with some money and then cancel the engagement!" Alexander said coldly, not even turning his head.
"I understand, Alexander. It's not worth getting angry over a woman like Elizabeth. Alexander, let me see you out," Clara insisted yet she stumbled as she chased after him.
"You nemesis! Did you deliberately drive Clara's fiancé away? Get out! Leave!" Lila accused, she was so furious she wanted to slap Elizabeth to death.
Elizabeth turned and walked away.
"Stop!" Lila shouted viciously.
Elizabeth turned back to Lila, puzzled.
Lila demanded, "Bring me fifty thousand dollars tomorrow!"
"Why should I?" Elizabeth asked, agitated.
"Because the Guise family has supported you for eight years! Fifty thousand dollars for eight years, the Guise family isn't extorting you," Lila stated unreasonably. She knew that Elizabeth couldn't even come up with a thousand dollars, let alone fifty thousand.
Lila just wanted to push Elizabeth to the brink of despair.
Even Oliver was shocked by Lila's behavior.
Elizabeth was even more infuriated, laughing. She then shot back, "Two years ago, I took Clara's place in prison. Wasn't that repaying the debt? A month and a half ago, you made me have sex with a dying man. Wasn't that repaying the debt? I don't owe you anything anymore!"
Lila sneered coldly, "As long as you're not afraid of your mother's grave being dug up and her body exposed in the wilderness, you don't have to repay."
"You..." Elizabeth clenched her fists, glaring at Lila.
After a few seconds, she suppressed her anger and said, "Tomorrow! I'll bring you fifty thousand dollars!"
With that, she turned and left.
Outside the Guise Mansion, tears welled up in Elizabeth's eyes, but she stubbornly lifted her chin, refusing to cry.
Crying was useless.
She had to come up with fifty thousand dollars immediately.
Fifty thousand dollars wasn't a large sum, but for her, it was as difficult as climbing a mountain.
Outside the Guise Mansion, Clara was clinging to Alexander's arm, swaying back and forth, acting coquettishly. Elizabeth walked past them as if she didn't see them and continued forward.
She didn't expect Alexander to take her back.
Even though they were going the same way and living in the same house.
Clara didn't see Elizabeth either; she was tearfully pretending to be pitiful. She cried, "Alexander, I know I'm not good enough for you. Did I make you angry? I never thought about marrying you. I just wanted to save your life that day. If you don't like me, I won't force you. At worst, I'll find an old and ugly husband who doesn't mind that I have been tainted. I just want you to be happy."
Alexander knew she was using roundabout tactics.
But thinking about how she had endured everything that night, he said, "Stop overthinking. Our wedding will take place as scheduled in two months."
Clara smiled through her tears.
Alexander added, "I like to keep a low profile in everything. If you're with me, you must get used to that. Understand?"
"I understand, Alexander. I'll remember to keep a low profile in everything!" Clara responded happily and nodded repeatedly.
Alexander drove away.
After the car had gone far, Clara stood there and sneered, "Elizabeth, do you think you can ruin my happiness? No way! One day, I'll make you understand that my happiness is built on your body and dignity!"
Not far ahead, Elizabeth was still walking towards the bus stop when a car sped past her without slowing down.
That night, it was past ten in the evening when Elizabeth arrived at Alexander's residence. She thought Alexander had already gone to bed, but to her surprise, he was sitting alone in the living room, a cigarette between his fingers, the room filled with smoke.
The air was also filled with a strong chill.
In the dim light, Alexander's cold, stern face flickered in and out of the shadows.
Seeing Elizabeth come in, Alexander asked coldly, "How long have you been targeting the Guise family?"
"What do you mean?" Elizabeth looked at Alexander, puzzled.
"It was my first time going to the Guise Mansion to discuss my marriage with Clara, but you were already there. Are you trying to tell me that's a coincidence?" Alexander said accusingly as he looked at Elizabeth aggressively.
He had underestimated Elizabeth. Seeing how comfortably she ate at the Guise Mansion, she was shameless to a remarkable degree.
"So, what are you warning me about?" Elizabeth asked bluntly.
Alexander claimed, "Clara is different from you. She's pure and kind, no match for you. If you have any schemes, just tell me. Don't bother Clara and her family, or I'll make you understand what it means to wish you were dead."
"So, you're willing to pay me fifty thousand dollars to ensure Clara and her family won't bothered by me, right?" Elizabeth asked.
