Chapter 264 She Won't Play the Victim
On the bus ride, Elizabeth thought mostly about Oliver.
Since she was twelve, Oliver had provided for her food, clothing, and education. Even though he never treated her kindly and gave her the bare minimum allowance, Elizabeth had always longed for a bit of affection from him.
What Elizabeth lacked most in her life was affection.
But Oliver never gave her any.
Now, Elizabeth no longer needed that affection, with the accumulated hatred between her and the Guise Family—if she couldn't get revenge today, she would still make sure the Guise Family wouldn't have it easy.
Shortly after the bus started moving, Elizabeth took out her phone to check the time, receiving a call just then.
She looked at the caller ID, finding it was Simon.
Elizabeth despised Declan, but she couldn't bring herself to hate Simon.
Simon had helped her and Samuel, even putting in a good word for her to get her current job in architecture. After some thought, Elizabeth answered Simon's call, "Hello, Mr. Jones."
Her tone was still calm and brief.
On the other end, Simon sounded anxious, "Elizabeth, what's going on with the short video?"
"It's exactly what you saw."
"That's impossible. I know you well. Is someone framing you again? Tell me."
Elizabeth asked, "What do you want me to tell you? That someone is framing me? Well, I'm telling you, there's nothing more to it. It's exactly what you saw. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now, Mr. Jones."
With that, Elizabeth decisively hung up the phone.
The one who wanted to teach her a lesson was Molly from the Lavien Family in Pariz.
Molly might have been a woman Alexander once liked.
Elizabeth had seen the relationship between Alexander and the Lavien Family at a small gathering two months ago. It was even better than the relationship between Alexander and his relatives in the Windsor family.
So, if Molly wanted to teach Elizabeth a lesson, no one could save her.
Or perhaps, this was all at Alexander's behest?
Alexander wasn't joking after all.
When he captured her back from Collinsport, he had made it very clear that he intended to torment her.
So, it was useless for Elizabeth to tell anyone.
Since it was useless, why should she play the victim?
On the other end, Simon was extremely anxious after being hung up on! He wanted to call Elizabeth again, but then he realized that no matter how much he asked, Elizabeth, with her calm demeanor, wouldn't tell him anything. With that in mind, Simon immediately dialed the architecture company's number, and Joseph answered.
"Joseph! Where's Elizabeth?" Simon asked bluntly.
"Mr. Jones," Joseph hesitated to say, sweating profusely.
What was going on? Why did every executive ask about Elizabeth, especially when she was no longer with the company?
"I asked you! Where's Elizabeth?" Simon asked again.
"Ms. Spencer..." Joseph still remembered that Molly had instructed him not to disclose Elizabeth's whereabouts to any wealthy people from Sunwillow City.
Joseph had also learned from Molly that Elizabeth was the woman who had messed around with the upper circles of Sunwillow City six years ago.
So, whenever someone from Sunwillow City's elite called to inquire about Elizabeth, he couldn't tell the truth.
Even though Joseph knew Simon was a company shareholder, he didn't dare offend Molly.
In his dilemma, Joseph suddenly thought of Linda, who had been detained for two days.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Joseph stammered, "Mr. Jones, it's like this: there's a senior designer in the design department named Linda who had a conflict with Elizabeth, so the company fired both of them."
"What! Elizabeth was fired?" Simon exclaimed, utterly shocked.
After a pause, he asked, "Where's Linda?"
Unable to reach Elizabeth, he had to call Linda to find out what was going on.
"Linda is in detention," Joseph said.
"Go! Get Linda bailed out immediately. I need to ask her something!" Simon couldn't return to Sunwillow City right away, extremely anxious. He had to find out from someone involved, ordering, "You have an hour and a half. I'll call back! I want Linda to answer the phone!"
Joseph immediately nodded, replying, "Yes, Mr. Jones, I'll go right away!"
Hanging up the phone, Joseph went straight to the design department, where he found Anna in a similar predicament. Seeing Joseph, Anna immediately said, "What should we do? Linda has been detained for two days, and now an international friend from the architecture field is looking for her."
"Hurry! Bail Linda out immediately. This is Mr. Jones's order!" Joseph said.
Anna was overjoyed.
She took the company's bail explanation letter signed by Joseph, heading straight to the detention center. Without much effort, she managed to bail Linda out.
Linda, who had been detained for two days, had been hoping the company would bail her out, even hoping Molly would come personally, as she was detained for Molly's sake. Molly wouldn't abandon her, right?
With such thoughts, Linda had been waiting for three days, almost in despair. She had even cursed Molly a thousand times in her mind while in detention. But just when she was about to lose hope, she saw Anna coming to bail her out.
"Anna, thank you. I didn't expect you to bail me out," Linda said tearfully.
Anna didn't know why they were bailing Linda out, not wanting to take credit and saying honestly, "The company ordered your bail. You don't need to thank me."
Linda was silent.
First, she was incredulous, then she hugged Anna joyfully, saying, "Anna! It must be Miss Lavien, right? she had the company bail me out, didn't she?"
Anna remained silent.
"It must be. Miss Lavien is so loyal. Anna, whether or not you bailed me out, I still want to thank you. If I get close to Miss Lavien, I'll help you out too," Linda said, feeling quite pleased with herself.
Anna said, "We'll talk about it later. For now, you need to come back to the company with me."
"I'm dressed like this, not having showered in days, and my hair is dirty and smelly. But it's okay. I want Miss Lavien to see how much I've suffered for her."
With that, Linda got into Anna's car, following her back to the architecture company.
Many people at the company stared at Linda, but she didn't feel embarrassed by her dirty and disheveled appearance. Instead, she felt proud. Anna led Linda to her office, opening the door, and saying to the person inside, "The person you wanted is here."
Linda walked in, stunned to see who was sitting in the office.
