Chapter 112 Alexander Is Here
Elizabeth spun around and saw Dorian, the developer from her company, who had just invited her.
"Dorian, what are you doing here?" she asked, trying to stay calm.
Dorian, looking sharp in his suit, was tall and handsome—one of the most attractive and wealthy men in Collinsport. Everyone in town wanted to be friends with a big-shot real estate developer like him.
If this had been three years ago, back when Elizabeth was still in college, she might have been charmed by someone as smooth as Dorian. But not now.
All she wanted was a quiet life with Alice and Samuel.
"I wanted to invite you to dinner, but you had already gone home, so I thought I'd come by to check on you," Dorian said, holding a basket of fruit and flowers. "The fruit is for your brother and daughter, and the flowers are for you."
Elizabeth didn't say anything.
"Astor!" Colin, lying on the stretcher, yelled angrily. "Don't think I'm scared of you just because you're backing Elizabeth! I know you're rich, the biggest real estate developer in Collinsport, but I'm not someone to mess with!"
Dorian looked at Colin with disdain. "Are you here to extort money? If so, see you in court!"
"You just wait and see!" Colin pointed at Dorian, then told the men carrying him, "Let's go, take me home!"
The crowd at Elizabeth's door started to disperse. Elizabeth looked at Dorian gratefully. "Thank you, Dorian. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't know what to do. I didn't expect Colin Rodriguez to be so unreasonable. It was just a minor conflict between two kids."
Dorian said gently, "Collinsport can be a tough place, but don't worry, I'll handle this. Colin won't bother you again."
Elizabeth asked nervously, "Who is Colin, anyway?"
Dorian smiled. "He works in a government office. His family used to run a taxi business, but they got millions from a government relocation project. He's got a lot of connections in Collinsport, so he thinks he's untouchable. But don't worry, with me around, he won't dare trouble you."
"Thank you," Elizabeth said, lowering her head. "I'll work even harder for the company, save costs, and create value. I won't let you down."
Dorian got the message but knew it would take time to win her over.
"Alright, I'll give you a raise then. It's getting late, you should go inside. I'll be heading back," Dorian said and then left.
"Goodbye, Dorian," Elizabeth said.
"Goodbye," Dorian responded.
Back inside, Samuel asked, "Elizabeth, I think Dorian is quite nice to you, you..."
"Samuel, I'm not considering anyone!" Elizabeth quickly said. "You saw how many people criticized me during our time in Aldoria. I will never get involved with rich people again. I just want to take care of you and Alice, living a simple life."
"But you're still young," Samuel said.
"Enough, Samuel," Elizabeth stopped him.
Samuel said no more.
After dinner, Elizabeth stayed up late reviewing blueprints, while Samuel entertained Alice with stories. Samuel and Alice were having a great time, and Elizabeth occasionally glanced back at them, feeling very content.
The next morning, after breakfast, Elizabeth talked to Samuel, "I'm going to handle the transfer procedures for Alice's kindergarten today and find her a new one. We need to avoid people like Colin who have money and power. We can't afford to provoke them, but we can avoid them."
Samuel nodded in agreement. "Alright."
Just as Elizabeth was about to leave, she noticed two men in suits carrying briefcases standing outside the fence, about to knock on the door.
"Who are you looking for?" Elizabeth asked as she opened the door.
"Miss Spencer, right?" one of the men asked.
Elizabeth nodded.
"We're from New Horizons Law Firm. We're here to discuss the injury of Colin Rodriguez. The hospital bills, lost wages, and nutritional expenses total five million dollars, which you need to pay to Mr. Rodriguez," the lawyer stated.
Elizabeth exclaimed, "How much?"
The lawyer said expressionlessly, "Five million dollars!"
Elizabeth said, "Are you kidding?"
The lawyer replied in a businesslike tone, "Miss Spencer, this matter has nothing to do with us lawyers. If you find it unreasonable, you can hire a lawyer or talk to Mr. Rodriguez directly."
"Fine, I'll talk to him. Five million dollars! This is extortion!" Elizabeth said angrily.
After the lawyers left, Elizabeth took out her phone to call Dorian. "Mr. Astor, I'm sorry."
This was the first time Elizabeth had asked Dorian for help.
After hearing the situation, Dorian slammed his desk in anger and said, "I'll go to the hospital with you to talk to him! Five million dollars! He definitely won't want to stay in Collinsport anymore!"
After hanging up, Dorian arrived quickly and drove Elizabeth to the hospital.
Colin was in a private ward, groaning in pain. When he saw Elizabeth and Dorian, Colin had a provocative smile on his face.
"Dorian, if you want to go up against me, you better make sure you're qualified! Since I dared to ask Elizabeth for five million dollars, I'm not afraid of you coming to me!" Colin's tone was much tougher than the day before.
Dorian and Elizabeth remained silent.
Colin became even more arrogant, saying, "Dorian, you think you're a big real estate developer? Let me tell you! One of my friends is about to take over several development areas in Collinsport, and he's rich enough to crush you! Dorian! You're about to be kicked out, and you still have the nerve to back this bitch?"
"Slut! Bring your daughter Alice and get out of Collinsport. Otherwise, my dad's friend will beat you to death!" John, who was in the room, shouted arrogantly at Elizabeth.
Mira, with a face full of fat, also looked at Elizabeth, screaming, "Bitch! Pay us five million dollars. If you don't have the money, leave your house behind and get out of Collinsport!"
Elizabeth remained silent.
Six-year-old John looked at Elizabeth smugly, speaking arrogantly, "My dad's friend is really powerful. He'll be here soon. If you don't get out now, he will blow your head off!"
Just as John finished speaking, a voice came from outside the room. "John, who's bullying you? Tell me."
Hearing this voice, Elizabeth suddenly froze, stammering, "Alexander?"
